Prisoner of Azkaban was for me the only good Harry Potter movie, because I dig time travel movies

AWittyUsername, in What is your favorite time travel movie or show?

Dark or 12 monkeys. Bodies didn’t start off great but that was also pretty good. Anything time travel has a 10x multiplier for how I judge it though tbh.

Technically not a time travel movie but it has a few elements of it: Interstellar (2014)

noroute,

Interstellar reminds me of Inception. Hard to follow and not much logic behind it.

No_Ones_Slick_Like_Gaston,

If this is your take stay away from Tenet

focusforte,

I’d argue that time dilation is a form of time travel.

What I meant is it wasnt the main plot of the movie.
It was a concern but not the primary.

thorbot, in You have to spend the rest of your life in a micronation. Which do you choose?

This post is assuming I know what the fuck that is or what one is. I choose Petoria

SgtAStrawberry, in You have to spend the rest of your life in a micronation. Which do you choose?

The Republic of Jämtland, very nice place. I even have friends there.

TurtsnGurt, in What is your favorite time travel movie or show?

Bodies (2023) on Netflix. I found it in my suggestions and thought the premise was intriguing so I decided to give it a watch. I ended up binging the entire season. It won’t likely get a second season but it seems the writers planned on it just being a one off.

CA, USA

I need to know where this is, I’m sure I’m going to come across a door with this rune

nvermind, in You have to spend the rest of your life in a micronation. Which do you choose?

I visited Molossia a while ago, dude was awesome and super friendly. Plus the weather in Molossia is always perfect, although with the close borders with Nevada sometimes the bad weather from the US bleeds in.

A novella, so against the rules: This Is How You Lose The Time War

Since it’s letters exchanged between adversaries, it’d be rough to translate to visual media.

shiihs, in Why is *all* of Lemmy filled with Anti Israel content?

What Hamas did was atrocious, and how Israel responds is even worse. Where I live, people are not against Israel or Palestine per se. They are against violence and genocide. And rightfully so. No matter who commits the crimes, or where they are committed, they are still crimes and it'd frankly be weird not to condemn them in the strongest possible way. Is it really that difficult not to think only in terms of us-them. black-white, good-bad and/or left-right? The level of discourse (or absence thereof) is quite disheartening.

shinigamiookamiryuu, in What is something you watch/do but not for its intended purpose?

I watch Family Feud to jumpstart my thought processes sometimes.

shinigamiookamiryuu, in You have to spend the rest of your life in a micronation. Which do you choose?

Pitcairn

kerrypacker,

Do you like inbreeding and sexual abuse?

shinigamiookamiryuu,

Not really, but it wouldn’t be inbreeding if I’m an immigrant there (by definition). I take the second thing with a grain of history; before the UK decimated the place by issuing a war draft and taking everyone to go fight in WWII, it had as many people as a regular small American town, and what followed was a chain of sensationalism.

duffman, in What is your favorite time travel movie or show?

Not my absolute fAvorite but I think most time travel fans would appreciate this absolute gem of a movie: I’ll Follow You Down.

It’s dark beautiful and underappreciated.

smotherlove, (edited ) in Can external dopamine intake influence one's logic and reasoning?

Of course. Your personality and consciousness are entirely defined by three things: Your memories, your current surroundings, and the current chemical state of your brain/body. Changing any of those will change your logic and reasoning because reasoning in a vacuum is something only computers do.

For examples of changes that would drastically alter the thought process of even the most stoic, rational person, here:

  • Memories: Amnesia from brain injury
  • Surroundings: Being trapped in a coffin full of centipedes
  • Brain chemistry: Being high on methamphetamine

Any of these things will immediately demonstrate that we are not computers or logic machines.

Nemo,

TBF if you change the chemistry of your circuit boards the computer won’t work the same either.

Same with removing stored settings files.

Honestly, probably same after a certain amount of time with the centipede coffin.
