Tattorack, in Other than Lemmy, what are you doing tonight?
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Your mum!

OK, immature jokes aside; Saturday is movie night for me and my friends, and we’ve been spending the past year going through the entire Star Wars franchise in chronological order.

Tonight we’ll watch the last half of The Mandalorian season 2. We’re nearly finished!

vala, in So is the US slipping into Civil War?

Why not Arizona? That’s surprising.

FriedCheese,

I am thankful everyday that the governor of Kansas is a Democrat as well because it means we likely aren’t participating.

Kansas historically was a free state, part of the union. People, that live here specifically, seem to forget that.

I just sent a message to the governor declaring my support in not sending any troops to Texas.

You999,

42% of Arizona is federal land, they know it wouldn’t end well.

cashews_best_nut,

Not enough cousin fucking to cause genetic mutations?

Jeredin,

As far as I can tell, it’s a purple state. The right republican would have to come along to pull moderates/libertarians in the state and Trump will only lose the state again - he talked a lot of shit about John McCain; that’s not going to go well. Don’t get me wrong, every state has it’s Trump cultists, but there’s just not enough.

Bad_oatmeal,

The current governor of Arizona is Katie Hobbs, a Democrat.

PeckerBrown, in So is the US slipping into Civil War?

Fuck Trump and his shit-headed followers forever.

Jourei, in Why do people on YouTube say "Lol they liked their own comment"? How do they know, and also I thought YouTube discredited self-likes?

I’m getting the vibe that they’re really saying “This comment is stupid and nobody would like it, henceforth the one like must be the poster’s.”.

Cooking:

Anti-Chef: Jamie tries to cook from cookbooks if the greatest, but he’s not a chef or anything, and you see all his mistakes, such as his recent deboning of a chicken, where he mistakenly de-meated it as well and had to venture out for a new chicken. It isn’t bits, just a guy that wants to cook but isn’t always so good about following directions, but he learns skiing the way.

Food Wishes: Chef John was a chef, and he makes a wide variety of things in easy to understand ways. He’s got lots of catch phrases and such, but he’s old so they’re endearing instead of obnoxious. His speech pattern can be somewhat off-putting to some, but I got used to it, and he’s just trying to be upbeat.

Tool Reviews:

Project Farm: Putting tools, small outdoor machinery, oils, batteries, bungee cords, etc through the paces to replicate real world use and some materials testing. It’s pretty fun for a review, and shows what tools are good at their price points.

Music:

David Hilowitz Music: I don’t care about his actual music so much, but he makes obscure instruments or repairs broken ones he finds in the trash and ends up with very unique things. He also makes sample libraries from all sorts of things, musical or otherwise, so you can play a version of all his weird stuff.

Cars / General Mayhem:

Garage 54: Some Russian guys with old Soviet cars that do strange Frankenstein experiments with them. Welding 4 engines together, tires made of various objects, all kinds of horrific and entertaining things!

@other_cat@lemmy.world avatar

Chef John’s recipes are always spot on; it’s rare for me to make something of his I don’t like. Sometimes they require a bit of extra effort, but he always tries to make his recipes as accessible as possible, talking about what shortcuts are appropriate.

anon6789,
@anon6789@lemmy.world avatar

You reminded me I forgot to mention he goes into more info about the how and why of his recipes in his blog posts linked in the comments too!

They are actually helpful if you want to know more.

SoylentBlake,

Caspian Report is fantastic

erranto, (edited )

Caspian report is crap opinions passing as geopolitical knowledge and analysis. I have watched a few of his vids. and the guy doesn’t know what is really happening in other foreign countries, but it doesn’t stop him from writing 30 mn long bullshit videos and impressing an audience that is just as uneducated about those subjects as him. i.e Any one who claims to know everything about every other country in the world is a FRAUD.

HootinNHollerin, (edited )

Why do you think it’s just the narrator’s lone opinion and not the narrator describing the research performed by a team of people on the subject of each episode?

What’s your best geopolitics channel then? Or is the very idea of one also a fraud to you?

blanketswithsmallpox, in Anyone else do "last chance socks"?

Apparently Darn Tough socks have lifetime warranties. I have 4-5 socks knotted up out of 10 that got big toe holes. They’ll get sent in sometime…

ccunning,

I just looked it up and my first pair of darn tough socks are 7 years old with no signs of failing. I feel like I got my money’s worth. I’m not sure I would even make a warranty claim at this point.

eightpix, in What are some problems that countries outside the U.S. are dealing with?
@eightpix@lemmy.world avatar

Guatemala’s ruling class spent months trying to negate the democratic election of anti-corruption, centre-left, progressivist, social-democrat, now-President Bernardo Arévalo. Certainly, the ruling class will screw with the whole system, and, possibly, they will attempt to kill him.

Bernardo is the son of former president Juan José Arévalo, whose time in office immediately followed an uprising that deposed U.S. backed dictator Jorge Ubico in 1945. Hate runs deep.

Keep in mind that the tenuous peace in Guatemala is consistently marred by gang violence, institutional corruption, kidnappings, and murder. This ray of light for the campesinos, indigenous people, and impoverished majority is, hopefully, sustainable with a mandate to improve Guatemala into a place where people can live. It would behoove (United States of) Americans to support this president as he could move the needle on making life liveable in Guatemala and stemming the flow of refugees and migrant workers to the North.

I love how you just casually included the iFixit channel.

It’s true though. They’ve got teardowns for just about every major mobile device, and then some. As for their store, I bought the screen I’m typing this on from them. The shipping could be better, at least in my experience, but the products are definitely high quality.

brygphilomena, in Income based social and mental illness.

Yes.

Societal issues like crime would be greatly reduced if people were able to live with relative security regarding housing and food.

Hobbies and recreational activities provide significant mental health benefits. If everyone was able to afford housing, food, and some recreation we’d have a massive shift in this country.

I’m not even saying working particularly hard. Everyone seems to need a job and they don’t all have to be back breaking hard work to earn these things. Mcdonalds and Kohls aren’t prestigious jobs, but shouldnt those workers deserve to know they have a roof over their heads and food on the table?

Koevoet65, in So is the US slipping into Civil War?

Then keep those comments to yourself

TexMexBazooka,

Oh fuck off

sbv, in Income based social and mental illness.

How much of a reduction is “massive”?

Stress is undoubtedly a massive factor in mental illness, but there are others. Genetics plays a huge factor, as does trauma. I suspect lack of community is pretty huge too.

It just seems like society is knowingly creating hell on earth.

Yeah. I agree with this one. We’re too invested in the current order to seriously consider anything else.

ULS,

Idk what massive is tbh.

But I think a lot of youth have some form of trauma from watching their parents try to survive.

some_guy, in What's something you're proud of doing?

An unhoused woman recently asked me if I’d buy her some food at a fast food joint. I said ok because I think I have a moral obligation to help anyone who asks for food if I can afford to. She ordered the largest multi-item meal they offered (think bucket of chicken). The person ringing it up offered to do a smaller combo, but I said fuck it and let her get the largest. I figured she might have people to feed other than herself and it’s not like I couldn’t afford to let her indulge.

The reason I’m proud on this is because I changed myself into this compassionate person where once there was an angry person filled with hate. This is the product of years of therapy and deliberate self-work. I’m also proud of finally being able to love myself. That happened in 2019-2020.

canitendtherabbits,

You are amazing. I’m inspired. I’ve been an angry hate filled person for about 5 years and am recently pulling out through attempting some sort of self realization. Thanks for posting.
