JohnDClay, in Circumcised men, how do you feel about your parents having mutilated your penis without your consent?

My parents were told by the doctor that having it was hard to clean, (even as a baby) so came with increased risk of infection. I don’t blame them. I do think the doctor could have been more clear about how large the risk was, and what the downsides to having it done would be. But I obviously don’t have first had experience about the situation, so it could have been different.

@GeekFTW@kbin.social avatar

This was basically my situation, and it happened at age 4 so ironically some of my first memories are relating to my own circumcision 🙃. I also remember the doctor, with me laying on the table, trying to pull back my foreskin (again..4..) and making the call that I should be circumcised.

I'm not gonna gripe much about it after the fact. My mother did much, much worse things to me than have me circumcised for me to complain about so it's just one more thing on the pile. I have zero frame of reference to feeling what being uncircumcised is like so I can't really miss what I don't know, but my cock works as well as I want and need it to (fuck even more than I want it to some days at 40yo..) so while I'm not happy it occurred without my consent, there's little I can do with it and it has thankfully never affected my life in any negative way.

My wife and I are both in agreement however that should we ever have kids, we sure aren't doing it outside of actual medical needs.

Lemminary, in Lighthearted, upbeat shows for adults?

Schmigadoon!

It’s very light-hearted and campy. Well, at least the first season is.

Moobythegoldensock, in Circumcised men, how do you feel about your parents having mutilated your penis without your consent?

I’m not particularly bothered by it.

This is asklemmy. The point is to be able to ask questions. If you think a question is stupid, just move on. Besides, enough other people have replied to suggest that the question was worth asking.

newtraditionalists, in Circumcised men, how do you feel about your parents having mutilated your penis without your consent?

I wish it wasn't done to me. I blame American customs more than my parents. What a barbaric thing we do to our children.

arquebus_x, in Circumcised men, how do you feel about your parents having mutilated your penis without your consent?

If you're young and it was done, it was for specific reasons (not all of which are valid).

But if you're older, say around 40+, it was done because that's what was done.

NumbersCanBeFun,
@NumbersCanBeFun@kbin.social avatar

I’m in my mid 40’s so you can’t just group people together and just say “that’s the way it was”. It wasn’t for me and I’m in that age group.

    Ah yes, more antisemitism. Hittin on all cylinders I see you Nazi fucks. I feel excellent about it, not only does my cock not look like a sad elephant, but it's more hygienic than leaving unnecessary skin over the tip of my dick. Thanks for asking.

    Krakakaaa, (edited )

    Take it easy. I had not made the connection yet, being raised as an atheist European. I knew one guy in high school who was circumcised and he was the weird one in the showers. I was thinking about Americans.

    magnetosphere,
    @magnetosphere@kbin.social avatar

    In America, circumcision is common whether you’re Jewish or not. This isn’t necessarily a religious question. Avoid jumping to conclusions, especially when it involves implying that someone is a bigot.

    Antisemitism is heinous, which means it’s also a very serious charge to make. Throwing the word “antisemitism” around based on such weak evidence only dilutes it.

    Krakakaaa,

    I see why he thinks of antisemitism, but I was just thinking of the circumcision without any real reasons, other than ‘that’s just what we do’.

    magnetosphere,
    @magnetosphere@kbin.social avatar

    I think for many, ‘that’s just what we do’ is all the thought that goes into it.

    An estimated 58.3% of male newborns and 80.5% of males aged 14-59 years in the United States are circumcised source

    Circumcision is common in the US and usually has nothing to do with Judaism. Male genital mutilation without consent is terrible, even when one's imaginary friend condones it.

    not only does my cock not look like a sad elephant

    Fuck you for body shaming people who didn't have it done.

    NumbersCanBeFun, in Circumcised men, how do you feel about your parents having mutilated your penis without your consent?

    As someone who medically needed one as an adult. I both appreciate my parents for not doing it to me as a child and have the horrible perspective of how painful this actually is.

    You’re a monster if you do this to a baby. I barely survived it as a full grown man.

    magnetosphere,
    @magnetosphere@kbin.social avatar

    This is a very personal question, and I know I’m not entitled to an answer, but curiosity has gotten the better of me: why was it required in your case?

    This clearly isn’t a pleasant memory, so feel free to ignore me. Either way, thanks!

    NumbersCanBeFun,

    So I kept getting infections down there. This would usually occur due to hygiene. Now before you write me off as a basement dwelling Reddit moderator, the issue only occurred when I would have long layovers at the airport or would go for a weekend camping trip where I couldn’t properly wash myself down there to the fullest extent.

    The worst one was finally from a 72 hour delay where I was stuck in the airport. After that infection I had enough and asked the doctor why this was such a big problem for me. He recommended due to the frequency of the issue to have it removed. I have not had infection down there since the operation, despite my activity or plans.

    magnetosphere,
    @magnetosphere@kbin.social avatar

    Yikes. I’m sorry you had to go through that. I’m glad it hasn’t been a problem since, at least!

    Seraph, in Circumcised men, how do you feel about your parents having mutilated your penis without your consent?
    @Seraph@kbin.social avatar

    In my opinion in 100 years it will be viewed as genital mutilation as it's done to children without consent for basically no reason at all. But by then it will be purely an elective surgery adults get so they feel their dick looks prettier, so whatever.

    Pretty far from the biggest problem of our age. Maybe don't stress about it.

    ModernRisk, in Are there r/WorldNews Israel bots or am I hallucinating
    @ModernRisk@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    Honestly don’t know.

    I avoid Reddit politics at all cost nowadays. Using an RSS for the several subreddits I like to keep track of and that’s it.

    Reddit is a heavy toxic cesspool when it comes to politics. Blatant racism, hateful comments and advocating for deaths of people they don’t know (as long it is not themselves).

    I recommend just avoid it and keep track of it on Lemmy or a different place you like.

    WalrusDragonOnABike, in Circumcised men, how do you feel about your parents having mutilated your penis without your consent?

    Fine with me. No clue why they did it and don't care.

    Granted, I'm not exactly someone who cares for having a penis at all so...

    theKalash, (edited ) in What are your thoughts on people being doxxed for ripping down missing israeli posters?

    Actions, meet consequences.

    Zippit, (edited ) in Are there r/WorldNews Israel bots or am I hallucinating

    There are. In the first week of the attacks, the Israel Times had a blog post about Act 2 of the war. Here’s the blog post: …timesofisrael.com/our-role-in-act-2-of-the-war/

    My country’s news outlet even has a section that informs us about the disinformation campaigns going on on both sides and addressing/correcting what’s probably the truth.

    Edit: they’re on Lemmy too.

    @Maajmaaj@lemmy.ca avatar

    I find it kinda interesting that the few places that pro-israel bots aren’t on, across the lemmy servers at least, is the leftist servers. But yeah, they are all over .world, .ee, etc.

    nix,
    @nix@merv.news avatar

    What country/news outlet is that? This should be more common

    Have you noticed specific instances on lemmy?

    Zippit,

    Belgium’s VRT. I’ve seen other countries’ outlets starting to do it too.

    redballooon, (edited )

    The link says nothing about bots.

    You are making this sound more mysterious than it is.

    The benign terminology in this blog article is: “act 2” is the ground offensive, the “act 1” was Hamas’ attacks on Oct 7. There’s also no mention of “act 3”.

    BluesF,

    Did you read the article? It’s suggesting Israeli citizens step into conversations and defend Israel. No need for bots, there are people to do it.

    redballooon, (edited )

    I did, and it says things, but not the things that the original commenter said, nor implied. But apparently calling out misinformation is not welcome here.

    BluesF,

    They didn’t say anything about bots? Not sure what you’re trying to call out.

    anarchost,

    I remember back when r/conspiracy blamed everything to the left of the John Birch Society on Mossad, because they liked exchanging “Jewish” with “Israeli” to look less like raging anti-semites.

    But in reality… Mossad does exist. Duh. Foreign intelligence and propaganda campaigns are universal.

    captainlezbian,

    Yeah the thing about Mossad is that they’re on par with the CIA in ambition and skill and unfortunately they also happen to be Jewish. One side is going to look at them because CIA-like, the other is going to look at them because Jewish.

    Frankly I think they’re probably trying to influence things some, but from what I hear they’re more of the assassin type. I think a lot of people have a lot of interest in the United States heavily funding Israel and ignoring Ukraine. And the people who benefit from us not throwing massive amounts of weapons at Israel tend to suck at influencing us in these ways

    KepBen, in Are there r/WorldNews Israel bots or am I hallucinating

    Seems likely. I’ve been an internet leftist for a long time now and that sub has always been disinterested in the left, but the level of outright hostility recently is extreme.

    Shardikprime,

    Bro what are you talking about, Reddit has always been pretty much leftist and even more so with popular subs like politics or world news.

    Leftism is not counterculture/ anti system as much as people here like to think. Face it. It is mainstream and THE system.

    KepBen,

    OK sure if you’ve decided to define leftism as “the system” then sure, obviously. Weird decision but I’m not one to judge.

    anarchost,

    I want some insight into your mind and how you think leftism is mainstream. First, can you define leftism in a way that matches the dictionary, and then can you explain how it isn’t counterculture

    In the context of the US, even ‘progressive’ democrats are center-right at best. Much of the trouble in America is a symptom of this problem.

    Sunforged,

    Liberalism is not leftist.

    BellaDonna,

    After seeing what the modern American leftist is, yeah, I miss the liberals.

    KepBen,

    What is “the modern American leftist”, specifically?

    intensely_human,

    progressive

    KepBen,

    Leftists have always been “progressive”.

    intensely_human,

    No, they used to be mostly liberal

    KepBen,
