This doesn’t really answer the question, but sometimes it’s not so much who the role model is but what action they want to model.
Maybe it was wanting to get better at controlling emotions, being great at communicating during a breakup, or a general attitude towards problems that come up.
When I see someone admire / want to emulate the good actions of others, that’s a green flag.
I would gladly change, but… I mean… the whole system has less content than yahoo’s homepage. As long as lemmy.world is the most activ I’m stuck there, I guess
I think it’s pretty obvious why that was removed, the mods and hosters are paying volunteers and shouldn’t have to tell dumbasses that their offensive post is offensive
We don’t have wars, famine, US-level political crazy news and very few poor people. We have fairly good social services/welfare, free/paid education, good equality and freedom. On paper it’s kind of a fairytale country.
And yet people complain a lot. Mostly about 1st world problems like expensive cars, increasing mental health issues and too many immigrants though.
But despite things looking pretty ideal compared to many other countries I have noticed that many people seem sort of disconnected from themselves and people around them. I would say there’s a sense of impending doom and an existential crisis lurking just beneeth the surface. I did not see that 30 years ago.
This seems like almost an example of a population in a behavioral sink. I don’t know if this as been shown to be true in humans but it definitely has some of the characteristics of one…
Interesting, maybe it shows that welbeing is not sufficient for a good life. People strive for struggle and progress. Even in hardship, in war, they may feel uninited, fulfilled, and motivated. It just would be better if this drive was not expressed in physical violence.
If you've never watched Fun to Imagine, check it out sometime. It's just an hour of him sitting in a chair answering questions/sharing his thoughts and I wish there were hours more like it. It's so great.
There’s no apostrophe in Mr. Rogers. Rogers is his name. It’s not possessive.
I don’t have an answer to your question, but it reminds me of Jim Varney (actor who played Ernest in the Ernest movies). He was a smoker, but was careful to not be photographed smoking, so any kids who looked up to him wouldn’t consequently think smoking was cool.
Carl Sagan was already mentioned, he’s def a favorite of mine. I’d also add Matt Mercer, everything I’ve seen of him makes it seems like he’s just a wonderful person all around.
I mean I didn’t wanna out myself as a giant critter…
But it appears he has built a large and successful business with his friends while being fiercely protective of them while being welcoming and accepting to everyone.
Apple ecosystem so: iPhone > iCloud Photo Library (imported all digital photos over the years through iPhoto, later Photos) > Mac Photos app (set to download all originals) > Time Machine backup on my Synology NAS with redundancy
And because I’m a belt and suspenders kind of guy:
Tip: Have a look at osxphotos, an open source software you can run on your Mac and export all your Apple Photos to your own full structure, including any metadata. So you get a copy that is independent on Apple photos and can be used in any photo library system later, if need be. I send that export to my Synology and C2 every day. I guess I just don’t liked Synology photos backup from phone, had to manually open it all the time.
I have a server in the garage with a big RAID array, and I run a Nephele WebDAV server on it. All my PCs, and my family’s PCs back up to it every 3 days.
It also streams all my movies and TV shows on a Jellyfin server.
Also, to be extra cautious, I have a server at my in laws’ house with a 20TB hard drive that I periodically sync that RAID array to.
