You ever seen that post about how classical music is closest to metal? Well Kerry King is our modern day Mozart.

pete_the_cat,

\M/

Dude can definitely shred and definitely plays some complex licks. Dimebag and Randy Rhodes are definitely up there too, but then again, so are many heavy metal guitarists.

I’m a shitty guitarist and whenever I just sit back and listen to the guitar tracks on most heavy metal albums I’m always amazed by the complexity, speed, precision and just overall sound of the tracks, especially when it comes to the solos.

farcaster, (edited )

Kerry is a great player, but I think the shredder who embodied the spirit and the form of Mozart was Alexi Laiho.

His solos were a such distinct take on the neoclassical sound

No_Ones_Slick_Like_Gaston, in Who in your opinion is the modern day equivalent to Mozart?

Freddy Mercury and David Bowie are up there in that podium.

I would say David Gilmour. Pink Floyd music comes to mind for having some pretty symphonic sounds.

Meuzzin, in Who in your opinion is the modern day equivalent to Mozart?

Dwayne Rudolph Goettel (Skinny Puppy) Peter Christopherson (Psychic TV, Coil, Throbbing Gristle)

If we change this question to generational, instead of “modern times”, those two would fit into Gen X.

Richard Wright (Pink Floyd) Ray Manzarek (Doors) Elton John

For the “Boomers”.

Tori Amos Trent Reznor Atticus Ross

For the Millenials.

I’m sure there’s many more from those 3 generations. But they have my vote.

Moraff’s Escapade for early Windows, or more specifically, the glitch levels in it.

If you spam the “next level” cheat button (which if I remember correctly is F8) enough times you’ll go past the levels that were intentionally designed and start exploring the game’s RAM.

mack7400,

I don’t remember that one, but I do remember having a few “Moraffware” shareware titles.

frunch,

Interesting!! I’ll have to check that one out. I was a big fan of Moraff’s World and i played a lot of Steve Moraff’s other shareware games back in the day. Never heard of that one though!

I have never met anybody else who played the Wall-E game for Wii.

k0mprssd, in best app for lemmy?

haven’t seen any comments mentioning connect yet, so that would be my recommendation. by far the most fully featured and smooth lemmy app imo and its my favorite. I’ve used most other apps but I always come back to connect because of all the different ways I can customize it and all the settings I can change that I simply don’t see in a lot of other apps.

The singularity that supposedly lies inside black holes is more likely just a result of a huge gap in our understanding and a dead end in general relativity.

I have tried a vast majority of them and there were many I like some features of, but they end up falling to the way side. I always go back to using, “Connect” For Lemmy. Has every thing I want.

GlenRambo,

Does connect have mark read on scroll? Seems that’s missing from boost. :(

Yes, it does.

GlenRambo,

Noticed it’s not FOSS :(

The dev does plan to open source it I believe.

TwoBeeSan,

Agreed love connect. I can block both communities and specific people.

Getting rid of all the niche porn and junk articles from certain bots improved user experience a great deal.

Layout is reminiscent to reddit is fun which was my personal fave application. RIP.

Immercenary for 3DO. Such a strange game.

www.rpgfan.com/…/Immercenary-Screenshot-004.jpg

MDKAOD,

Two additions from the 3do era, PO’ed and Killing Time.

PO’ed was an fps with over engineered level designs and humanoid butt cheeks with legs and teeth that fired green projectiles. The 3do version had terrible controls and the game came out shortly before the console was abandoned. It was later released to ps1 to no fanfare, but had updated controls.

Killing Time was a cross between Doom and 7th Guest. It has fmv sprites to advance the story and is generally pretty advanced for its time. After Panasonic abandoned the 3do, Killing Time was ported to pc. It’s currently on sale at GOG. I might buy it lol

This is the kind of question that makes me hate my mortality, because culture is so scattered and vast and changing so rapidly these days that it seems difficult to imagine anything “modern” lasting for hundreds more years, and we’ll never actually be able to know the answer.
