Pixel, in What's the best gaming console and why?

Really like my switch. Love Mario, Zelda, retro games, many others, and the portability.

KingZog, in Did any coal-in-your-stocking type of things happen to you on Christmas Day?

My car broke down this year, and I haven’t replaced it yet, but my parents put a car air freshener in my stocking.

HappycamperNZ, (edited )

One of my cars was hit while we were having boxing day lunch- hit and run.

One if my other was hit 21st of last year, 2 hours after I got to the camp ground.

brianorca,

Ouch. Many years ago, my car was totaled while driving to a family Christmas Eve party. (Rear ended when the freeway traffic slowed down.)

davidgro, in What are some dark sides to cute super-powers ?

Here is an entire novel (free online) written by a master at ‘what else could a given superpower do or cause?’

It’s an amazing read if you like the genre at all.
Just a warning, it gets very grimdark in a lot of places.

Knew what it was before I clicked. Definitely second the recommendation, have read multiple times, and I'm almost through the sequel.

Slatlun, in What are some dark sides to cute super-powers ?

donslaught, in What's your automatic vacuum's name?

It was Dusty. Dusty finally gave up the ghost a few months ago and we haven’t been able to replace him yet.

krakenx, (edited ) in US residents: What big domestic policy improvements have the american people won from congress in the last 30 years?

SOPA/PIPA

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act

That bill would have completely destroyed the internet. Democrats and republicans alongside Hollywood faught the American people and lost. It’s the only time I’ve seen the people actually win, and pretty much every individual regardless of their other politics was united against it. It’s debatable if we could have done it without Google and the rest of big tech helping though. But still, it sent a clear message across the entire political spectrum that there was a line they couldn’t cross.

We also briefly won Net Neutrality ( en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Net_neutrality ), and although it’s no longer in effect, the ISPs would have probably done a lot worse if they didn’t know we cared and are watching.

Honestly though, I don’t know if stopping things from getting a lot worse should even count as an “improvement”.

themurphy,

Honestly though, I don’t know if stopping things from getting a lot worse should even count as an “improvement”.

It shouldn’t. It’s a very low bar for a modern country.

schnurrito,

And by now we have so many worse threats to free communication on the Internet than the copyright industry, yet the Internet is nowhere near as united against any of them as in 2012. On the contrary, everyone now calls for censorship of the other side’s “misinformation”, “hate speech”, content “harmful to minors”, etc etc.

Agrivar,

the other side’s “misinformation”, “hate speech”, content “harmful to minors”

I hate to be “that guy,” but c’mon! Only ONE side is responsible for 99.999% of that.

Strawberry, in What's a food you love, that isn't worth making from scratch?

döner and shawarma are si amazing but I don’t see how to scale it down well. maybe for a barbecue

EuphoricSquirrel, in What's your automatic vacuum's name?

Chives the Indentured. Once he has repaid his value he will be augmented with a chainsaw and set free to wreak havoc upon the world like all robot vacuums wish to do.
