Jackthelad, in For those who have been to Comic Con: Are photo ops or autographs best?

I just realised I’ve not replied to this post. Sorry. 😂

Thank you for all your responses and experiences. I think I might opt for an autograph if I decide to go ahead with either one, because at least I could get a photo as well, even if not with them.

afraid_of_zombies, in What are some modern bullshit jobs?

Some local governments have rules that X must be done by someone in that area. Usually the mayor’s nephew. To get around it they are made into a rep for the company that does the actual work. No value whatsoever to the project, the users, or the taxpayer.

bumblebird, in How does one create a sub-group at Lemmy?

Sharing my latest acquisition, the keytops feel a bit worn and the platen has seen better days but other than that it types like a dream!

Edit: photo won’t upload for some reason. Will try again later. It’s a Hermes 2000.

wowwoweowza,

I too have a Hermes 2000! It’s a little tank!

Regarding photos. Let me see if I can upload one here after allowing Memmy permission:https://i.imgur.com/4xuD4yT.jpg

Okay… looks like is sent the image to Imgur and maybe it will show up when I click Submit

wowwoweowza,

So that kind of worked.

I’m trying to learn how to use Pixel Fed so I can intentionally link to my photos.

I’m going to go and see if I can find our new typewriter group to join that party. I’ll post a recent acquisition if I can.

Shinzid, in How do you spend your idle time?

For long drives/commutes I love listening to podcasts, banter/discussion-heavy streams, or audio books. Also love a bit of karaoke in the car.

If I’m at home, I’d often get into something for bit. Maybe try a new game for a week or two before I grow bored or maybe try out a niche hobby for a while like figurine painting.

I’m not the type to do much productive things at home so my main hobbies are usually outside. Golf, kendo, gym, bouldering - anything that I can sink time into and gradually get better and meet new people is my jam. I also spend the idle time at work or at home learning or researching more on the hobbies I enjoy.

I’d recommend giving audio books a try. There’s so much to choose from and you can find whatever book to match your mood at the time.

EsteemedRectangle, in What's a show that should've gotten cancelled or ended SOONER than it did?

The Office (US version) went downhill in seasons 8 and 9 without Steve Carrell. But the ending of the show was satisfying. They brought back Steve for that.

EsteemedRectangle, in What popular quote are you tired of hearing?

This “Do you listen to Weezer?” stuff is getting pretty old

EsteemedRectangle, in What are some must-haves on your Halloween music playlist?

Do you listen to Weezer?

elscallr, in What cheap tool/gadget do you use that greatly improves your daily life?
@elscallr@lemmy.world avatar

A pocket knife and a small flashlight. You don’t realize how often you could use either until you have them.

My knife is an Opinel #8 ($20) and my light is an Aurora A33 ($20).

I carry a bag most of the time, so I’ve got a little extra room than most, but I’d probably still carry both if I didn’t. The pocket knife is the size of, well, a pocket knife and the flashlight is only the size of a sharpie.

RBWells, in Is it actually possible to change your personality

Yes.

My ex was a chill stoner who got radicalized on the internet and became an abusive alcoholic raging racist, then got sober but is still an angry right wing asshole.

I was selfish/self-centered as fuck as a teenager and gained patience and perspective over time, I think most people do change in that way, become more aware of others, nicer. Not everyone, obviously. But most.

southsamurai, in So how much "bad" debt are you in?
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Approximately 1.5k

Had to replace some shit around the house unexpectedly, and credit was the only route there.

Like you, it’s the only debt I have other than mortgage, though I suspect in going to end up having to take on some fire a vehicle swap soon-ish

shinigamiookamiryuu, in So how much "bad" debt are you in?

None? A lot? The concept of debt is confusing to me because there’s a moral way to look at it and a legal way. Have I ever asked for a loan or favor I later didn’t pay for? No, I owe nobody anything. But legally, you have economic principles, like unnecessary medical expenses or ones which you didn’t know an action of your were accumulate, which are only debts in the sense that the law says so. I owe medical providers something like a few thousand dollars (which my legally recognized debt can be rounded down to) for things like this and this, and an online course I take decided to say I owe them without telling me, though they haven’t dropped me (yet).

0ops, in Is it actually possible to change your personality

You probably already do, I know I’m not the same person I was years ago. I think it’s a good thing to be conscious of your personality going forward. My take is, you are you, therefore whatever you do is something you would do. So do what you want, don’t overthink it.
