KISSmyOS, in Those of you who work 8+ hours outside in the cold regularly, how do you dress for the job?

Layers are key for comfort!
That’s why I always wear an onion on my belt.

roofuskit,
@roofuskit@lemmy.world avatar

It was the style of the time.

clubb, (edited )
@clubb@lemmy.world avatar

Have you tried wearing an ogre? They also have layers

Lemminary, (edited )

Cakes also have layers and everybody loves cakes. Wear a cake.

marmotworks, in Car Mechanics of Lemmy - Do you have a puncture repair kit that you would recommend?

The kits that use a reamer, rubber cement, and lil gloopy rubber cords are far preferable to a “fix a flat” canned solution, both in effectiveness and in ease of replacement. A pair of pliers and a good utility knife would go along with this stuff well.

I keep a set of box wrenches (suitable for your car, metric or sae), screw drivers, channel locks, a high-vis vest, tire repair kit, tow strap, air compressor, and a pruning saw in the boot spare around the spare tire.

Hope this helps

assplode,

Another mechanic here, 100% agree. These things work really well.

13esq,

Thank you

Narrrz, in What's a food you forget you like? Then you eat it, and wonder why you don't buy it more often?

I don't strictly forget about them, but I never think to buy them myself. Brussels sprouts.

clay_pidgin, in Anyone know of any Fediverse gift exchanges I can still join for the 2023 holiday season?

If you find one, let me know? I never did one on Reddit but it always looked fun.

bionicjoey,

I did it one year on Reddit and got a really cool bottle opener. It arrived in a package with Danish/Greenlandic postage and the handle of the bottle opener appears to be made of whalebone carved in some sort of Inuit style.

BackOnMyBS,
@BackOnMyBS@lemmy.world avatar

I will!

hperrin, in What are some green flags in a partner in your opinion?

The biggest green flag is that you like being around them and you miss them when they’re not there. I know that seems kinda obvious and a weird thing to say, but hear me out. Sometimes people get invested into a relationship, and don’t even realize that they don’t like spending time with their partner. Wanting to be around them, like actually longing for their company, is a green flag.

LifeOfChance, in What's a food you forget you like? Then you eat it, and wonder why you don't buy it more often?

Idk what it’s called but my wife makes this chicken and pasta that uses parm garlic sauce and its 10/10. I know my issue is we make it then I over eat it which results in me hating it for a while and then the cycle repeats

BarrelAgedBoredom,

Sounds like chicken alfredo

LifeOfChance, (edited )

Nah, the chicken is slow cooked with the parm garlic sauce, cream cheese, some other kind of cheese, then some rigatoni. She adds a few other things as well.

shrugal, (edited ) in How would you explain Lemmy/Kbin to a Reddit person or to a social media person?

It’s like multiple reddit sites, but they all work the same and the content and users are synced between them. So you can pick any one of them, follow topics and contact users from all of them, and if one site goes haywire we just ignore or block it and move on.

lvxferre,
@lvxferre@lemmy.ml avatar

The way that I explain it is quite similar to yours. It works, but you need to emphasise

  • that unlike in Reddit, there’s no central group of admins controlling the whole thing; and
  • that each instance has its own communities, and those are equivalent to subreddits.

otherwise users start associating instances with subreddits.

scytale,

That’s how I explain it as well. It’s better than the email analogy I see all the time. Obviously using reddit as an example only works if the person you’re talking to knows what reddit is. Otherwise, I just change it to something they know (i.e. facebook, discord, etc.)

shinigamiookamiryuu, in What are some green flags in a partner in your opinion?

I had two friends who used to frequent what was said to be the local debate club. It was the only thing they had in common when they first met, now they’re married. People often see what seems like a complete lack of consensus (for a lack of a better word) between them and they think “wow, are they really going to survive the New Year”. But they show a huge green flag isn’t how synchronized two people are but rather how accepting one is to a shortage of synchronization. There are people who don’t realize this and one issue ruins everything.

foggy, in What is good to eat when you have no appetite?

I find greasy umami stuff in small quantities gets me from “hunger nausea” to “hunger”

E.g buttered toast.

NaoPb,

So the taste of buttered toast is umami? In that case, I LOVE umami!

justlookingfordragon, in Is it ok to use acronyms similar to those on an equally or more popular discussion forum?
@justlookingfordragon@lemmy.world avatar

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t non-commercial use of trademarked stuff ok? I was under the impression that it only counts as copyright infringement if you somehow profit from it, which would not be the case in most communities here.

(I’m not a lawyer tho so I could just be wrong)

brygphilomena, in Do you prefer to wear a smartwatch or a regular watch?

Regular watch. Other than my phone, I tend to want less technology on me.

My go to is an old Casio, the same one Dennis Nedry wears in Jurassic Park. It’s super weird seeing how expensive this watch has become on eBay.

slackassassin, in People of Lemmy that take more than 5 seconds to start your car and drive, what are you doing?

Queue podcasts, reply to txt/email, or anything else that needs to be taken care of on the phone so that it can be put away while driving.

Mojojojo1993, in People of Lemmy that take more than 5 seconds to start your car and drive, what are you doing?

Psych myself up to go to wherever I’m going

NotSpez,

Content is key. And you are a large-scale provider, so many thanks! I know you’re just a regular person (although there is a non-zero chance you’re actually Obama) but we just appreciate you

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

I am so white I sunburn at night so I’m definitely not Obama.

Definitely just a dude you’ve never heard of with way too much time and mental health issues on his hands.

cheese_greater,

Yo momma so white she gets lost in a sugarcane maze

snek, in I want to study psychology but won't AI make it redundant in a couple of years?
@snek@lemmy.world avatar

No, it won’t. I don’t think I would have made it here today alive without my therapist. There may be companies that have AI agents doing therapy sessions but your qualifications will still be priceless and more effective in comparison.
