trolololol, in Have you ever seen coal burn? If yes, why?

What’s the difference?

Honytawk, (edited )

One you can mine from the ground.

The other you get by smelting oak logs in a furnace

You can also get the former by killing wither skeletons, making it a renewable resource.

someguy3,

Coal is mined out of the ground.

Charcoal is wood that has been super heated to remove the water.

lemmefixdat4u,

Charcoal is wood that has been heated above combustion temperature without oxygen. That does drive off water, but it also chemically decomposes the lignin and other organics into primarily carbon while creating a volatile mixture of gasses known as woodgas.

Source: Have a woodgas generator. Byproduct is charcoal.

Zarxrax, in How are you all making it right now with grocery store prices?

Prices haven’t gone up that much where I live, and some of the things that have risen in price have actually started going back down recently. But I guess it all varies from one place to another.

But in general, I shop the sales flyers, I get things that are discounted such as meat that will expire soon, and I get the cheap staples like rice and beans. I stopped buying name brand items and unnecessary snack foods. I also use the Ibotta app which gives me some cash back. Usually not a lot, but over the course of a year it’s meaningful.

Grocery Outlet and Trader Joe’s. For GrocOut just go and see what’s cheap, don’t shop off a list. Make sure the prices of the stuff you’re buying is about 50% off or more. At TJ’s everything is priced pretty fairly, just buy what you want to eat.

Don’t drink alcohol or soda, or anything canned really.

someguy3, in Any good YouTube recommendations?

Your next question has to be sky related and rotate the picture up. Then ground and rotate down.

Kasa no Hone - Anathallo

Pretty much anything by Sigur Ros

MicrowavedTea, in What songs do you like that are in a language which you don't speak?

I like most songs by Carla’s Dreams (Romanian/Moldovan + Russian). From eurovision, Shum (Ukrainian) and My sister’s crown (English+Ukrainian+Czech+Bulgarian) are pretty good. Slavic languages just sound nice in songs.

Also most pop in catalan (eg. La sortida, escriurem, Ara!).

For something rarer check out Pat Boy who sings in Mayan.

I know a song in Catalan too > Rosalía - Milionària

Son_of_dad, in How do I stop a crush from developing further?

All this advise is making me realize it wasn’t just a crush.

I’ve not seen her for years, I try my best to have contempt for her, I don’t look her up or make any sort of contact. She’s dead as far as I know, and that’s kinda how it feels. But I think about her often, I think about the regrets. It’s been years of no contact and I’m still mourning losing this “crush”

DeepThought42, in Have you ever seen coal burn? If yes, why?

While growing up my family’s home had heating stoves capable of burning both wood and coal. While we primarily burned wood, coal would sometimes be used, particularly on nights when it was really cold out as it tended to burn hotter and usually burned longer than wood of the same volume.
