Spinach puffs. 20 minutes in the oven for a quick and dirty not unhealthy meal. It’s delicious. It’s filling. It’s relatively cheap…. And for some reason I only make it once a month despite having some laying around in my freezer pretty much at all times.
Subscribed new. I have lots of time to kill. And since I’m using my own instance there is no sense in using any other feed, as almost every community reaching my small server is one I am subscribed to.
Cottage cheese. It just looks wrong, and there’s all different qualities of it like - no, I don’t want any . . . Oh well I’ll just have a small, tiny bite. Mmh. Not bad. Probably just a little salt here and . . Mmh. Mm hmm. Yeah. Oh. Oh! now I get the whole ‘cottage cheese’ thing . . Ooh pineapple you say . . Oh man okay yes. Yes, absolutely this is awesome. Must remember to get some more next time.
(Spoiler: does not remember to get more next time.)
Not a big fan of it myself, but the best snack ever is some kettle chips and cottage cheese as the dip. It looks weird/gross, yet every one who has tried it has loved it. I usually sprinkle some black pepper on it prior.
It's like fried chickpea patties or nuggets. Sort of like if you made fried hummus bread. Super good with tzatsiki (yogurt/cucumber) or tahini (sesame) sauce. Sometimes it's served in a pita with lettuce, tomatoes and sprouts.
Used to have an Apple Watch Ultra. Used to because it’s been somewhere in my house for months and I can’t find it and even when I knew where it was I barely wore it. I have a phone, i don’t need further notifications. I wear regular old school watches and love those (I think it comes with the Swiss nationality at this point, our insane love for well crafted watches is in our blood). As a woman who loves watches and has way too many, I also enjoy that mid range and luxury brands are starting to get more exciting models for us. I don’t care about diamonds. But automatic models and such were almost non existant for us a decade ago.
I definitely fancy a nice boyfriend style watch. Got the pink Swatch x Omega one last spring and once you swap the band for a way less tacky plain white leather, it’s pretty solid for casual days looks at the office.

Honestly the biggest barrier for entry into the Lemmy content isn’t choosing an instance. You can easily tell someone to sign up for Lemmy.world or kbin.social without going into detail about what that means.
The issue is that most social media users don’t want to spend an hour or two searching for communities and blocking bots. They want a feed that is appealing at first, that they can tweak incrementally as they get more familiar with the service and its content.
With that in mind, what people want is to know what makes the experience helpful to them right now. I think that boils down to two primary concepts: Draw people in to specific communities that are more accessible than their Reddit counterparts, or convince them why Reddit is not a good experience for them
The latter is a tough sell to someone who already is happy with the Reddit experience. And the trouble with the former is there’s currently not a great deal of communities that are clearly better than on Reddit. The few that I would say count are fairly niche interests.
I think the Lemmy and kbin software needs a set of default subscriptions for guests and new users. Something curated by instance admins to provide the best new user experience, while still allowing them to customize it from there.
For what it’s worth, I would expect most social media users not to care about any of the decentralization aspects. Putting too much focus on the “it’s like email” thing is likely to fall on deaf ears at first.
