otter, (edited ) in Question about Android. Is there a way to replace the system file manager on non-rooted devices?

You should probably ask this on !askandroid

This isn’t the community for specific personal questions

Vlyn, in Question about Android. Is there a way to replace the system file manager on non-rooted devices?

Can’t you just install another file manager and then change the default app?

thegreekgeek,
@thegreekgeek@midwest.social avatar

Don’t think that’s an option really, the file manager is like the android version of the open file dialog in Windows now. Ever since they implimented secure app storage. Like op replied to you it’s mostly hard coded in the apps or something. It’s gonna get worse too, pretty sure android 12 made it so you can’t use a third party camera for pictures taken through other apps, and on my OP9 Pro you can’t select a alternative gallery app.

Slow,

How? There is no pop-up window with options. I think the call to the system file manager is written into the code of some applications.

Vlyn,

Ah, so even when resetting the default app there is still no popup? That sucks :-/

Dicska, in What game do you play to just chill?

Diablo II Resurrected. I’ve been playing it (Diablo II) for 20 years now. Even though I know the game inside out, a new rare rune drop can still make my day. I usually listen to podcasts meanwhile.

Vampire Survivors was tons of fun until I unlocked pretty much everything, but it also goes great with podcasts.

Clone Hero. Even though I only have a keyboard (so say goodbye to the fast strum bits), It often takes me from ‘I just want to chill’ to ‘this song was FIRE’.

Capital letters let you read faster.

squiblet, in Why a user in one instance can't comment on another instance in lemmy? ( not a rant )
@squiblet@kbin.social avatar

You can make a comment on posts from federated communities, from the instance on which you have an account. If you view that instance directly, you won't be signed in, though, as it's a separate website.

Hello from kbin

ferrodegaragem,

Hello from the Brazilian Lemmy instance!

I_Fart_Glitter, in Low effort posts

They’re good sticks Bront.

intensely_human,

I thought it was a fine stick. If the post gets upvotes, it’s valuable to the community

Chozo, in Why a user in one instance can't comment on another instance in lemmy? ( not a rant )

You can already do that. Unless you're banned from that instance.

user224, in Why a user in one instance can't comment on another instance in lemmy? ( not a rant )
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Well, you should be able to.
Maybe lemmy.world had some technical difficulties.
My home instance had issues with outgoing federation for 2 days after upgrading to 0.19.0-rc.x, though that’s expected since 0.19 is still very much experimental.

cheese_greater, (edited ) in What is with all the ex parte scenes in Law & Order?

K so mea culpa, I think I misconflated the assistant district attorneys consulting with the NEW DA, the blond chick. She came across as very judgely but she seems to have replaced former DA Adam Schiff.

So no unauthorized ex parte hanky-panky. I was clearly too drunk and blind to be just ⚖️

Edit: in my defense, the DA’s chambers are very similar to the in camera chambers 🤔 and she may or may not have been drinking

phorq, in Why a user in one instance can't comment on another instance in lemmy? ( not a rant )

Pretty sure my comment is visible, but please let me know otherwise (airtight plan over here…)

zkfcfbzr,

What does this comment say? It isn’t showing up for me 🙁

Pons_Aelius,

All I see is: *******

zeograd,

where did my password leak!?

Hey! That’s my password! Don’t share it.

Jack3G, in What game do you play to just chill?
@Jack3G@sh.itjust.works avatar

Spend hours downloading / messing with proton / configuring, and then play for 15 minutes…

At this point I’m almost convinced I just like the setup process.

Otherwise probably quake.

DearThief, in How do you work full-time and stay awake all shift?
@DearThief@kbin.social avatar

I used to suffer with broken sleep, and my partner complained about my snoring and heavy breathing keeping him up. Ended up getting tested for sleep apnoea but it came back negative - turns out I just had uncontrolled asthma. I take a preventer inhaler now and I sleep like a log. It's made it so much easier to get through the day.

PonyOfWar, (edited ) in Why a user in one instance can't comment on another instance in lemmy? ( not a rant )

You can already do that. That’s one of the basic features of Lemmy. For example, my account is not from lemmy.world, but I can comment here. Looking on your profile, you’ve also already commented on lemmy.ml posts.

tja, (edited )
@tja@sh.itjust.works avatar

And I am from eben another instance and can also comment here. But I could also create a new post in other instances without the bed for an account there

sigmaklimgrindset,

And here I am from a different instance than both of you and OP replying to your comments!

I think OP is a bit confused, but they’ve got the spirit.

pruwybn,
@pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

And I am commenting from yet a fourth instance!

Extrasvhx9he,

Do i hear 5 instances?

Max_P,
@Max_P@lemmy.max-p.me avatar

And a fifth, complete nobody instance! It’s almost like you can just slap Lemmy on a server and you can immediately join in the fun everywhere!

bacon_saber,

Woo! Why not 6?

SmokingKinoko,

Yall we are on 8 now…

bullshitter,

Oh man, I have 5 different accounts now. I did this because when I started on lemmy hexbear had some shit going on which led me to believe one needs to be registered and what not. Uffff , Maaan do I feel stupid now.

Stamets,
@Stamets@startrek.website avatar

You’re not stupid. This federation thing is confusing to everyone when they first encounter it. Still confusing to a lot of us months later.

Don’t blame yourself buddy. We all gotta learn somehow

tja,
@tja@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yes, there are instances who block other instances. These two then are not federated and you would need accounts on both

AlmightySnoo,
@AlmightySnoo@lemmy.world avatar

OP’s post is so cute, it reminds me of Lemmy 5 months ago when the Reddit exodus happened 🥹
