I really like that Calvin, even though he probably cut out the slice, seems disappointed in Hobbes here. He doesn’t want to ruin Suzie’s party; he just wants some cake.

flambonkscious, in 27 January 1987

I love the way Hobbes is always steps ahead of Calvin…

lobut, in 21 December 1986

I love just the two-panel joke at the top. It’s great.

IIRC, Watterson strongly disliked having to come up with these throwaway jokes which were often cut for space.

This comic perfectly illustrates how republicans react to losing elections these days

It’s amazing how much Waterson’s comedy just deftly slides past the toxic anger in a hilariously quiet way.

Can I upvote this one twice?

ooklamok, in 19 December 1986

His parents bought him a Ouija board? Think mom or dad picked it out?

It’s pretty funny that someone would give a single child who is never seen playing with other kids (Suzie doesn’t count since he doesn’t play with her; he torments her) a game that requires at least 2 people. Definitely seems like something his dad would do.

Rodeo, in 18 January 1987

Always makes me giggle like an idiot.

“This is you!” “No, this is you!”

threelonmusketeers, in 19 January 1987

Oh, this saga! I love this one.

Rodeo, in 17 January 1987

I feel ya, Suzie. Apologies are so empty.

empireOfLove, in 18 December 1986

If Calvin was 6 in 1986, then he’d be turning 44 in 2024. Very young in the current political climate but definitely possible to run for president…

44 year old Calvin would probably make a decent candidate. He’s already pretty articulate for a 6 year old, very creative, and shenanigans aside seems to have a good heart.

HonoraryMancunian, in 17 December 1986

This is quite cute, considering Hobbes is a figment of Calvin’s imagination
