Thcdenton, in Zhen Zhenhua, arrested (sentenced to death?) for 'sodomy hooliganism', People's Republic of China, 1970s?

Sodomy Hooligan is a sick song title

Why do so many cultures abhor homosexuality like this?

There’s so many actual tangible issues that need solved yet it seems like so many cultures around the world have the death penalty for simply loving the wrong set of genitals.

phoneymouse, in Weimar-era German dogs in gas masks during military exercises, 1920s

What are the dogs for?

espentan,

Messenger dogs, probably. They typically carried messages from command to trenches on the front line, and vice versa.

marx2k, in British horse being fitted with protective gear, including a gas mask, WW1, 1914-1918

This just looks like a horse with cold protection and a feed bag

Neat, is this from the hero in the other thread talking about the WWI soldier with a gas mask, horse, and spear? Thanks either way!

RyeMeadow, in Imperial German cavalryman with lance and gas mask, WW1, 1918

Can you imagine if they gave the horse a gas mask too? Would be even cooler

There are definitely WW1 horse gas masks out there, I'll see if I can dig a good one up.

A horse, a lance, and a gas mask? WW1 was crazy!

PugJesus,
@PugJesus@kbin.social avatar

The lance is actually interesting too - it's not traditional, not a wooden pole with a metal head. It's all-metal - a hollow tube of rolled steel.

Salamendacious,

It’s wild to think that a soldier with a javelin or spear on horseback was an incredibly important component of warfare for thousands of years and it all ended, historically speaking, 5 seconds ago.
