flubba86, in is there a foss project to automatically sort files

Every single file on my computer is saved under ~/Downloads why would I want to sort it somewhere else when I already know exactly where it is?

Shame they don’t have a list of the packages they offer.

comicallycluttered,

It’s a bit hidden in the FAQ, but here you go.

This requires no “AI”, just some simple rule-based automation, at most some algorithmic sorting.

  • Android (or some custom branded Android versions?) automatically save downloaded files in folders by Pictures, Documents, etc unless you tell them.not to.
  • Office365 offers the PowerAutomate function, but knowing Microsoft they probably overcomplicated things a bunch. [Edit: obviously this isn’t FLOSS, just a hint at what to look for alternatives to…]

This approach never appealed to me as I want to know where things are rather than where some subroutine thinks it belongs, but I’m certain you will find plenty of software that offers an auto sorting feature.

mfw when entire distros are advertising UI features of gnome that came standard on every DE like 15+ years ago, including gnome.

Seriously, Compiz is from 2006.

Also I find their Zorin OS Pro offer a bit scummy. Now the themes do look nice, but few would spend 50$ for a few themes. So they advertise having 5000$ worth of professional creative alternatives bundled. In screenshots you’ll then see Kdenlive, Blender and Inkscape. I don’t know what to think about the fact they want 50$ for bundling a few themes and free software. If they had just kept the stupid 5000$ part out I would have been fine with it, professional support can be great for people switching over from windows, but this seems a bit scummy to me.

possiblylinux127, in SSH protects the world’s most sensitive networks. It just got a lot weaker

I might just go ahead and change the default port. Problem solved

If someone going through the effort to target you with a MitM over the Internet, that’s not going to stop them.

Just diable the affected ciphers and/or update opened.

The COPR package didn’t work for me on Nobara, so I had to build from source, but it works great. There are a couple of things I don’t like, but overall seems pretty neat.

If I can get Xwayland to work nicely for steam with high refresh rates, then it seems like this might be the WM for me until COSMIC-DE comes out.

CannedLettuce, in Considering Gentoo

You don’t need a separate machine to read documentation on. You can install gentoo from any live USB. I used mint, for example, so I could have the handbook open at the same time.

Flaky,
@Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

Worth pointing out that Gentoo also maintains a live USB that runs KDE Plasma.

Will that mean a bunch of my steam games won’t work? Please don’t say that, as I love debian, and I love my games.

NamelessGO,

Games aren’t being affected with this change

Patch,

No, this is just about the kernel and the installer/images.

You won’t be able to install Debian on an x86-32 computer anymore, but everything you can currently do on an x86-64 install still continue to work.

IsThisLoss,

No

Xirup, (edited ) in Fully featured tilling window managers (like DEs) for lazy people

If you want just boot your system and not have to worry about setting up keybindings, my best suggest is ArcoLinuxB i3 Edition and Garuda Linux i3 flavor, you really don’t have to worry at all for that, and you can use the i3 reference card to learn the most common keybindigs.

Disgruntled, in I finally nuked windows

I nuked my Windows 11 and went with Fedora KDE, too.

I have had it installed for a while and I check it after every update. I can’t use it yet as my daily driver because of scaling issues. The desktop scales properly but windows do not. Fonts are too small and the cursor is tiny. I figured out how to scale the cursor manually but I couldnt scale the windows.

Maybe organize-tool would help? You have to set the parameters but I love it for getting my home folders organized.

Thank heavens for Incus.

TCB13,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

The issue here is that this will stall the development of LXD/Incus. Two separate projects running in different directions no future feature parity and potentially less features in Incus than in LXD.

woelkchen,
@woelkchen@lemmy.world avatar

Currently LXC Incus is more active than Canonical LXD.

TCB13, (edited )
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

But it may never see much progress on the WebUI for instance while Canonical has paying customers pushing and asking for it. They may appear inactive and it seems there aren’t many people working on the project but who knows? Maybe they’re setting up their own image server, repacking images etc.

Again, I’m all in favor of this change and I’ve a couple of systems running on both and will obviously migrate everything to Incus but I can’t ignore the fact that enterprise money pushes Canonical todevelop things.
