miss_brainfart, in [Update - Resolved] Debian 12: how do I get Gnome Files to display preview thumbnails/icons for large video files? Right now it just shows generic icons

I remember seeing your original post.

Now, how about one step further:
How in heavens can you make Thunar show embedded thumbnails instead of auto-generated ones?

Codilingus, in How to secure (podman or docker) containers for public-facing hosting?

My solution that took awhile to figure out is fantastic IMO. Docker containers unprivileged, with nobody permissions, with their own IPs on macvlan, with matching vlan and good firewall rules. A docker network proxy container, Traefik, Authelia, CrowdSec, and a CrowdSec Traefik Bouncer containers.

A lot of that data doesn’t actually exist, ostree hardlinks data blobs internally, so the actual size on disk is much smaller than most disk usage tools will show.

Pantherina,

Thanks! The same goes for ostree system versions and BTRFS snapshots probably.

I have a similar problem with virt-manager and I think that doesnt create dynamically allocated qcow2 containers?

const_void, in I'm Done With Windows, Are you?

There are way way too many testimonials here lately about switching to Linux or installing Arch, etc. These aren’t interesting.

neytjs, in I'm Done With Windows, Are you?

Yep. Windows XP was my last Windows and when it became obsolete I permanently switched to Linux Mint (without dual-booting). Everything that I use has worked very well. I’ve never even thought about switching back to Windows.

laskobar, in How do I get Nviddia drivers to work in arch?

I have a 1050 in my Laptop and it works fine with the nvidia package AS proprietary driver

Liz_thestrange,

Could you please provide me with a guide or tutorial for how to do it?

mvirts, in I'm Done With Windows, Are you?

So done, except when my employer uses windows 😹

All the real homies are still running Linux95

just_another_person, in Linux Ubuntu Dual-booting horror

You have an EFI bootloader, so your BIOS should be able to detect your Windows partition and just boot it off it’s still in good working order. Go into your BIOS boot menu and see if you can boot to Windows from there as a first test.

Thcdenton, in I'm Done With Windows, Are you?

Not yet. I’m not upgrading windows again so the day draws near.

jjhanger, in Linux reaches new high 3.82%

So some people switched to phone only after Windows 8 security stopped…

Jokes aside, it’s cool to see it move up no matter how small the move is.

Joker, in Help with laptop buying decision

The usual suspects are ThinkPad T, P or X1, Framework or System76. Some people also like the Dell XPS but I don’t because of the lack of ports. I use a ThinkPad X1 Extreme. It runs great, it’s repairable and there are good premium support options available.

Want things to work really well and last that way? Get an HP EliteBook (not the latest model) and enjoy.

haych, in Help with laptop buying decision

My first choice would be a Framework, second choice System76.
