t_378, in Is it possible to change mouse to left/right handed mode via CLI on wayland?

I think you want to use hwdb and evdev to do this: reddit.com/…/updated_guide_to_remapping_keys_on_l…

Grass, in New in Fedora Asahi Remix - Asahi Linux

This would have been exciting to me if it was like back in the PowerPC dying out days when my old elementary school gave away all their old macs from the computer lab and I acquired about half of them and installed Linux on them.

Oisteink, in Can I pre-install Ubuntu on an SSD?

fai-project.org can help you

Hazmatastic,

This looks like a great resource, but I’m going to go ahead and do it the hard way. Maybe for a first install, just to get the ball rolling, but I typically go the long way around so I can understand what I just did some more. Like when I bought my 3d printer unassembled, so I could learn about it as I put it together. I’ll bookmark the site though. If I’m currently biting off more than I can chew, I’ll probably end up using it. Thanks!

Host your own Gitea server and then version control your own RPI configs on the RPI. I mean… save them elsewhere also, but it’s yet another thing you could do with that awesome little device.

Piya, in Debian Bookworm and Bullseye Users Receive Important Linux Security Updates

This update underscores Debian’s commitment to user security. Bookworm and Bullseye users should promptly apply these important Linux security updates to enhance system protection. Staying current with these patches ensures a resilient and secure computing environment. Debian’s proactive approach is commendable in addressing potential vulnerabilities and maintaining the integrity of users’ Linux systems.

WindowsEnjoyer, (edited ) in When Windows 10 dies, I am going to jump ship over to Linux. Which version would you recommend for someone with zero prior experience with Linux? **Edit: Linux Mint it shall be.**

Depends. Whatever choice you pick - go with Plasma (KDE) desktop. Most of below choices have alternative desktop flavors that offer Plasma instead of Gnome.

If your goal is to play games - something like Bazzite might work.

If your goal is to have a desktop experience with some gaming, something like NobaraOS or PopOS would work.

If your goal is only desktop experience - ubuntu will work.

If your goal is to learn and have super awesome Linux desktop - Arch Linux.

Personally I am in Arch Linux for the past decade. Tried many different ones and Arch Linux is the only one that simply “just works” for me. Not suitable for beginners.

I would guess that this is CPU SSD issue you ran an live debian image from an usb and did not encounter any crashes.

NoisyFlake,

But I also ran a live EndeavourOS from USB and the same crashes happened.

I recognize this is an odd comment to make, but I’m glad to see this screenshot tool supports capturing a window in Wayland. My next question is, can the screenshot tool be invoked from the command-line or via a script?

I had a similar conundrum: what to use on a Thinkpad X60s, which is a Core Duo machine. I tried Arch 32, but after trying Debian, I stuck with the latter.

I usually only use it as a dumb terminal via SSH, but Debian was just sort of… easier.

onlinepersona, (edited ) in What's your current favorite distro that isn't Arch, Debian or Fedora?

Favorite? No. Most acceptable: NixOS.

The worst documentation of a linux distro I have ever encountered, but the declarative model has convinced me I don’t want something else. Now I’m just waiting for other distros to pop up that are declarative as well. (Guix? No thanks, I’m not a fan of endless parentheses)

Manjaro KDE for me - it’s not Arch per se, otherwise Ubuntu would also be eliminated for being a derivative of Debian…

Breve, in What's your current favorite distro that isn't Arch, Debian or Fedora?

I’ve become a fan of KDE Neon. It’s based on Ubuntu LTS but with the the most up-to-date KDE release.
