immutable, in I HATE electron

People that are upset about electron should consider it’s not:

Electron App vs Wonderful Fully Supported Native Linux Application

The reality is that your choice is largely:

Electron App vs No App (maybe running their windows app in wine if you can get that to work)

It’s not like companies are going to go build a native linux app but electron got in their way. It was always electron or no support.

So if you like the app, remember that the ram and the cpu you paid for doesn’t provide value unless it’s doing something. There’s no trophy you get at the end of your life for “most cumulative ram left idle”

thisbenzingring, in I think they just hate us Linux Gamers

I’ve played before anticheat was a thing and it is meaningless. Cheaters are going to cheat. The best anticheat systems are voting. The game kicks a winning vote total and then that server sends the rest of the servers it’s results. Then that account is flagged as a cheater. The only way a cheater can exist is they hide and don’t cheat and are obvious in it

DrRatso,

Votekick really doesn’t work as an anticheat, especially without good playback analysis option and even then good gamesense looks like wallhacking in shooters to new players for example when all you are doing is tracking sound and have good crosshair placement. If you can’t review replay and there is no blatant cheating like speedhack or spinbot or teleporting, what are you voting on? The fact that you are getting stomped?

To be clear I’m not saying invasive anti-cheat is the way, but IMO voting is not the way to go.

About the same when you ask for a good GUI replacement for X and someone replies "just use the command line", like cheers for that men, not what I'm asking for.

littlecolt,

AMEN! I asked recently if there was a good Linux alternative to this program I used in Windows called “Bulk Rename Utility” and i was flooded by people telling me how easy it was to set up a script to do what I want.

Turns out the best alternative is running BRU in Wine.

I bought Cassette Beasts a few months ago but never got around to play it. I just want you to know that it was this post what made me finally play.

Cool! I hope you enjoy it. It’s such a heartful game and its battle mechanics add more depth to the formula.

How do you exit vim, and more importantly why would you even want to exit vim?

@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

You click on the X button. You’re done doing whatever it is you people do in this so called “vim”, and you close it, simple.

How can I Linux?

@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

You can Linux with your frineds, with your coworkers, with your gf/wife/mistress… just about anyone that knows what a gagball and a buttplug is, but would like to take that experience to another level.

JargonWagon,

Perfect response as always. Thank you. Hearing about my friend’s job having some difficulties where there was some update on a Linux based device at stores and it’s causing all sorts of issues at the stores. I’m sure he would agree with your statement right now.

@0x4E4F@sh.itjust.works avatar

Meeh…shit happens, I know what it’s like as well 🤷. To the best of luck to your friend, may he troubleshoot without distractions… or some, from time to time, just to clear his head 😉.

SuperSpruce, in Hot take

I guess I’m open minded because I’m a noob with Linux yet I’ve worked with XFCE, LXQt, KDE, and GNOME (in that order), and none of them were a pain, except possibly LXQt, which was super clunky to customize, but it ran amazing on weak hardware, so I’m giving it a pass. I reckon I’d be cool with Cinnamon, MATE, Unity, or even one of the lightweight DE’s.

Yet, all of these DEs I’ve used were on Ubuntu based distros. I feel afraid to encounter weird things with other distros. For example, doesn’t DaVinci Resolve only run on Ubuntu based distros?

sata_andagi,

I remember running DaVinci resolve fine with Fedora ~2yrs ago.
