Before we eulogize the doomed Presidential campaign of Ron DeSantis, can we take a moment to marvel at the fact that the Republican party has been unable to find anyone who can legitimately challenge a nearly 78-year-old twice-impeached, historically unpopular former President facing 91 criminal charges? The GOP lost in 2018, 2020, and 2022 because Donald Trump was the face of the party, and the party is still going to trot him out because they’re all scared of a man who spends much of his day ALL CAPS yelling gibberish on a social media site that he owns and that is even more unpopular than Twitter. Sad.

DrPop, in Trig

Trigonometry is extremely useful when constructing things. Need to know the length of wood needed to go from corner to corner. That’s trig my friend.

Tikiporch,

Go on…

Lazz45,

A^2 + B^2 = C^2 is known as the Pythagorean theorem. This theorem explains the proportionality of the 3 sides of a right triangle (a triangle with 1 corner angle = 90 degrees). If you know the length of 2 sides (in his example, the wall beams) you can find out the length of the third (in his example, this would be the supporting strut spanning the beams that meet at a 90 degree angle). If their example is explaining a beam that spans the room from 1 corner to the other, you still use this formula as a rectangle is 2 right triangles that meet along their hypotenuse (the longest leg of a right triangle, or the length you are solving for in this problem). The 2 known sides are the length/width of the room, and you solve for the 3rd side, your diagonal beam

Did Pythagoras even know about sin, cos and tan? I am reluctant to call A^2 +B^2 =C^2 trigonometry.

Hipparchus, the alleged founder of trigonometry, was alive 350 years after Pythagoras (500BC to 150BC).

Lazz45,

Completely fair point, that I do not think I have the knowledge to speak on. On the Trigonometry Wikipedia page, he pops up a few times, and many trig identities are known as pythagorean identities. Perhaps its not fully trig, but was used as a basis to help discover trig? Without having the understanding pythagorus gave mathematicians regarding triangles, I would think it would be pretty hard to begin developing deeper math regarding said triangles

Getawombatupya,

Squaring using 3+4=5 is one of the oldest relationships used by masons. don’t need a ruler, just a piece of string or straight edge. Pythagoras described the relationship on paper

The Colorado lower court also found it was an insurrection, but that an insurrection didn’t disqualify a person from running for President (because of some very specific wording in the constitution).

So both sides in the case appealed and now here we are.

shalafi,

Knowing it would be appealed, no matter the ruling, the lower court found it was an insurrection. The next court had to take that as a factual finding. They could not argue or retry that question. It is now a legal fact.

Brilliant move! That judge took one for the team, called a coward and a traitor. And you see what we have here today. (insert wasted.meme)

The_Vampire,

That’s not how American courts work? The upper court can find issue with practically anything it likes.

Reddfugee42, (edited )

That’s not how American courts work?

Nope. The court of appeals can find fault with the methods, procedure, precedent etc but not the facts.

(Also, that’s not how question marks work.)

The_Vampire,

But here’s the thing: they could easily say the method that led to the finding is wrong. It’s not a fact.

Madison420,

If it’s decided by the lower court it is held as fact. It may not in your opinion be correct but it is verifiably a fact at this point.

Madison420,

Not fact finding they can kick it back to lower courts and say try it again but if the lower court says no they’re stuck with it.

Katana314,

Lower court: “We find that since the man was found dead from dehydration, he must have been killed by the accused’s witchcraft that sucked his fluids!”
Higher court: Looking at a body covered in bruises from a long fall “I’m sorry, what…?”

I truly don’t mean to be pedantic here, but aren’t these nearly word for word the same beliefs Left-leaning people here have about the Right in America?

Maybe if you’re being generous and want to write out the other side of these beliefs you could leave out the descriptors “lazy and weak” and replace them with “psychotic and brainwashed”, but other than that, is this meme not the same for Left and Right?

Blackmist, in Fast casual

It’s annoying that you can either choose between having a weedy shit burger that’s mostly lettuce and has to be held together with a stick, or eating a really expensive one and have to look at a load of wanker tat on the walls.

Also, you can stick your brioche buns up your arse. A brioche bun is not a load bearing bun. It dissolves in contact with moisture.

jpreston2005,

hell yeah lemme get that pretzel bun SON! shit SLAPS

Lianodel,

Hold on, a brioche bun can totally work! Toast the bun, put a little mayo on it, put the veggies on the bottom (at least the lettuce), and a regular-sized burger will hold up just fine.

Not saying it can’t go wrong, especially in a place that just wants the decor and the food to look good on Instagram even if it’s disappointing when you bite into it. But for burgers I’ve made, a brioche bun can be a nice option. :P

Gbagginsthe3rd,

Also why do Americans like mixing sweet and salty. Here in Australia they have brioche buns everywhere now. I hate that crap, if you don’t have normal buns give me two slices of bread instead
