Because the cities are named by European immigrants naming places after their home towns. It not very original but I guess its better than naming it after yourself
Yeah there was this news story a long time ago of 2 girls that were stuck on an elevator in Lisbon (Portugal). Apparently they looked up some number on their phones for Lisbon but since they were from the US it suggested some random city named Lisbon there. They spent a lot of time trying to explain where the elevator was located until they realised it wasn’t the same Lisbon.
(I think it’s a true story. Might just be an urban legend from Lisbon I guess 🤷♂️)
I wouldn’t be terribly surprised. I grew up in Geneva, but I lived in Oviedo when I was in high school.
I’ve lived in central Florida my entire life.
When I was starting at a new job I mentioned that I grew up in Geneva. The person I was chatting with were curious and asked what it was like growing up in Europe. I responded that if I was raised in Europe I’d never live in Florida. Geneva, FL is a fucking armpit.
It’s actually very clever, because the aim was to distract from the “wine and cheese nights” thing - if people google “Boris Johnson cheese” this story is more likely to come up than anything else. He’s clever enough to play the buffoon, and that’s worrying
The "active fucking warzone" that Russia themselves created with zero justification. Also they have been stripping the Ukrainian children of their identity
Working with aggressor and commiting war crimes in Donbas wasn’t justification? All the Nazis (who want to murder Russians and were in Donbas) weren’t justification? Jesus fuck
Zelensky didn't know who the fuck this guy was and neither did the Canadian House Speaker who invited him, which is why the latter resigned after the incident.
And are you actually denying Ukraine’s murder of Donbas civilians?
What murders? Do you have anything other than baseless claims? Links, maybe? I seem to be the only one posting proof of my claims here, feels a bit one sided.
Ah yes, you have provided no proof in reality. None at all
Zelensky (and you and everyone else) knows what it means to fight agaisnt the USSR in WW2. Everyone knows what that means and it was obvious that he was a Nazi. If you genuinely think he didn’t know, he must be the least reasonable person in the world.
So you are essentially denying war crimes agaisnt Donbas civilians. If you don’t know about them, I advise you to stop speaking on them
I've provided links to journalistic reports. You've provided nothing but 'trust me bro'.
Zelensky (and you and everyone else) knows what it means to fight agaisnt the USSR in WW2.
You do know there was a few years in early WW2 where the USSR was working with the Nazis, right? And fighting its own war with Finland? (the winter war) And annexations of the Baltic States and Romania?
Fighting against the USSR could mean that you fought for any of the above nations. Naziism wasn't the only thing to have happened during ww2, you know.
So you are essentially denying war crimes agaisnt Donbas civilians. If you don’t know about them, I advise you to stop speaking on them
Have you considered providing sources? Or literally anything other than just 'trust me bro'.
Your knowledge on Russian WW2 history is quite...lacking, so I'm sure you'll understand why I don't take your word for it.
The USSR had never worked with Germany beyond that of the rest of the world and worked far less than countries like the UK. To claim otherwise is ridiculous. Finland was allied with the Nazis and was the aggressor agaisnt the USSR. Maybe you could bring that up if Hunka was Finish or from the Baltics. He wasn’t. He was Ukrainian and that was specificed. Any Ukrainian who fought against the USSR during WW2 must have been a Banderite
The USSR had never worked with Germany beyond that of the rest of the world and worked far less than countries like the UK. To claim otherwise is ridiculous.
On 23 August 1939 the Soviet Union signed a non-aggression pact with Germany which included a secret protocol that divided Eastern Europe into German and Soviet "spheres of influence", anticipating potential "territorial and political rearrangements" of these countries.
They planned with the Nazis to basically divide up Europe.
Finland was allied with the Nazis and was the aggressor agaisnt the USSR.
You mean the same Nazis that the USSR had a non-aggression pact with? The one that wouldn't get broken until 1941, a year after the war with Finland ended?
Also:
The Soviets made several demands, including that Finland cede substantial border territories in exchange for land elsewhere, claiming security reasons – primarily the protection of Leningrad, 32 km (20 mi) from the Finnish border. When Finland refused, the Soviets invaded.
Ummm...pretty sure this makes Russia the aggressor, not Finland.
