Caketaco, (edited ) in the FDA is considering a ban on menthol cigarette sales
@Caketaco@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

“We’re making an effort, see?”

In 5 years:

Studies show menthol cigarette consumption has remained the same.

I do not trust they will handle this without corruption meddling laws and loopholes.

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

Canada has outright banned the sale of menthol cigarettes. You cannot buy them in Canada.

Caketaco,
@Caketaco@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Glad to to hear that. Lemme know when the US is matched with Canada in terms of corruption. Also, let me know what happened to spicy skittles. They made them for a year and stopped entirely. They were fucking good, man. It sounds weird, and that’s why it was a Halloween thing, but they were good. Spicy, then sweet. I fucking loved them. And they ripped them away from me. Why?

Magister,
@Magister@lemmy.world avatar

Even in “Indian reserve”?

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

Yes. Indian Tobacco do not have a menthol option.

690? Nice.

Cylusthevirus, in I made a website that tells you, based on the year you graduated high school, what your school (probably) got wrong!
@Cylusthevirus@kbin.social avatar

I literally had creationist bullshit in my text books, so I'm thinking this site won't cover everything...

MiraLazine,

I strongly debated on including school based myths, but wasn’t sure how to go about researching. I’ll do some digging and see if I can’t make an update

KittenBiscuits,

Southern schooled in 80s & 90s, here. They let us believe John Wilkes Booth was a lone actor and not part of an organized plot by southern men to assassinate the president.

The first time one of my northern friends mentioned that bit about a conspiracy, my little naive mind was rocked that schools might bend or bury the truth.

The rest of the list was pretty accurate. Except nurses in schools was a Hollywood myth to me. There was no budget for such positions. We could go to the school office and ask to call our parents if we weren’t feeling well, and we’d better be feeling pretty awful.

nocturne213,

I was schooled around the same time in NM, and was also taught Boothe acted alone.

You forgot to add “in bed,” everyone knows that’s how fortune cookies end.

@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

What’s really crazy is that there are stores that specialize in Christmas stuff and are open year-round. Who’s going to those in April?

VindictiveJudge,

You know that relative that doesn’t buy anything that isn’t at least 75% off? That’s who.

CerealKiller01, in Anti-Zionist Jewish community flying Palestinian flags in Jerusalem

So, some context - this group is called “Neturei Karta”. They are Anti-Zionist in the sense that they believe that Jews aren’t allowed to form a self governing state until the Messiah arrives and will rule in god’s will. The Palestinians themselves is meaningless to them (much like Iran’s Anti-Zionist. As in, their leader actually met with the Iranian president some years ago). This is a more extreme form of the belief that a secular Jewish state has no right to exist, which in itself is a more extreme form of the belief that a secular Jewish state has the right to exist only to act as a platform for a religious Jewish state. The latter ideology is shared by a large part of the current far right government of Israel.

Terevos, in Harbor Freight charges $1 extra for green extension cords instead of orange
@Terevos@lemm.ee avatar

Car colors are often $1000 difference.

CADmonkey,

Fun fact, this is part of the reason so many cars are silver, white, or black now. A lot of base models of cars are only available in those three colors, along with maybe red. To get a different color, you have to get an upgraded package… and there’s your $1k price jump.

Hazdaz,

I’d be happy to spend $1k more for better colors, but many new cars don’t even come in any interesting colors regardless of the price.

CADmonkey,

This is also true.

My wife and I have accidentally ended up with a purple car and a green truck, both stick out in a sea of silver bubbles.

TheGreenGolem,

I just thought a couple of days ago that how awesome it would be if we have a LOT of colorful cars. Not just the same 4-5 always. Parking lots are fucking boring these days.

Hazdaz,

JelloBrains, in Harbor Freight charges $1 extra for green extension cords instead of orange
@JelloBrains@kbin.social avatar

They aren't the same cord, the green one is a thinner wire size and is 14 gauge, and the orange one is thicker at 12 gauge.

EDIT: Nevermind, they are the same, I saw the 12 gauge wire, not the orange 14, that's on me.

smitty, in An "airport neighbourhood" where people can store their planes in their yard and taxi directly to the runway
@smitty@lemmy.world avatar

Here’s a nice big one just south of Daytona Beach

www.google.com/maps/…/data=

merc,

Whoa. That area has things that look like roads, but are extended taxiways from the homes to the runway. For the early-alphabet taxiways there’s a clear distinction between the public roads and the taxiways. The roads end in dead-ends before the runways, and the taxiways end in dead-ends before the roads.

But, when you get to taxiway echo, it actually crosses Spruce Creek Blvd. So, you could be slowing down to a stop sign, only to see a plane taxi across the road in front of you. I wonder how often cars end up on that taxiway by accident.

bobs_monkey,

Here’s one I was thinking of near Ocala, FL, I believe John Travolta has/had a place there:

29.2747779, -82.1204260

And another one in Yucca Valley, CA:

34.1289163, -116.4077455
