Nice picture! Mine came out all blurry.

Nunar,

Mine started that way. Turns out I had the glasses too close to the lens.

Am I the only one who can’t stand reptiles(minus birds)/ amphibians. I’ve seen too many people who find frogs ‘cute’. Like wtf

umulu,
@umulu@lemmy.world avatar

Almost 2 weeks ago I found a wall lizard inside a pool. Poor baby was so scared (maybe tired) that he didn’t even flinch. I caught him, and placed him on a wall near the pool. I love nature! However, I also hate spiders. So, we are not perfect. And although I am ashamed to admit it, if I find a spider inside my home, I will squish that little fucker.

SnokenKeekaGuard,
@SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Funnily enough I dont mind spiders. Tho i’ve never dealt with a poisonous one so maybe thatd change my opinion. The lil ones I know theyre gonna be in their nests just eating bugs

HM05_Me,
@HM05_Me@lemmy.world avatar

I think a lot of amphibians are seen as cute because of their smooth, rounded features. There are some gnarly looking toads out there that probably don’t get the same love.

I enjoy seeing them all, but I also grew up in Florida where they were everywhere. Plus, they’re great for pest control, so I’ve always enjoyed having them around for that.

    I always read “togo” as the African country first, not as “to go”.

    Spuddlesv2,

    Wait is this a thing? Do Americans legitimately call it “togo”? I came in here to find out what sort of food togo was.

    JokeDeity,

    No, we do not. We do say “to go” however. OP probably accidentally missed a space.

    CmdrShepard,

    People mess this one up alot.

    SwallowsDick,

    It’s weird how culturally ubiquitous some common smartphone typos become

    CmdrShepard,

    I think “take away” is valid too. “To take away” just sounds odd.

    Empricorn,

    Can someone translate for those of us on the other side of the pond…?

    GiveOver,

    It’s what British people call a drug dealer. It comes from the word chipper, meaning perked-up

    Airazz,

    Fish and chips shop. Traditional and delicious British dish.

    JokeDeity,

    Chips here meaning french fries in the US, not potato chips, which themselves would be crisps in the UK.

    I suppose being wrapped in newspaper would make it feel more scruffy and home made

    NathanUp,
    @NathanUp@lemmy.ml avatar

    I don’t think it was that - the way they wrap it is very quick and professional looking. The texture was nice in particular - a warm parcel of newspaper. Idk.

    fubo, in A mildly interesting Michael Moorcock/MCU connection or coincidence

    Curiously enough, Marvel Groot is first, having appeared in 1960, while the Moorcock novel is from 1981.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groot
    en.wikipedia.org/…/The_War_Hound_and_the_World's_…

    Rottcodd,

    Huh.

    I had no idea Marvel Groot was that old.

    That seems to make it more likely that it’s not a coincidence though, particularly since while Marvel Groot existed, he was still very obscure. I can see Moorcock slipping the line in, and even giving the character that name so he could slip the line in, just for a bit of amusement.

    fubo, (edited )

    “Groot” is also the Dutch cognate to the English word “great”.

    There are plenty of Dutch words and names that are close enough to English to sound really funny to English-speakers. Like, Vroom is a real Dutch surname, but to American kids that’s the sound a cool car makes.

    (In one of the Baroque Cycle books, Neal Stephenson needed a name for a Dutch shipwright who built really fast sailing ships. Who else could it be but Jan Vroom?)

    skeezix, in Mideast chaos sparks fears of a 'third' inflation wave

    “Tommy down in finance figures that with the troubling news out of the Middle East we could probably squeeze in a price hike without much blowback. He thinks we could probably add 3 mill to our bottom line. What do you and the other board members think? Remember our annual bonuses are a percentage of profit ;)”

    trailing9, in Mideast chaos sparks fears of a 'third' inflation wave

    ‘third’, in quotation marks? Has counting gone woke?

    Thavron,
    @Thavron@lemmy.ca avatar

    Could be that it’s in quotation marks because the second wave isn’t over yet, thus it’s not actually a third wave. In which case they are using them correctly.

    ChaoticNeutralCzech,

    I think those are ^1^/100 units (like pennies/cents)

    100_percent_a_bot,

    Ah I see, that makes sense

    latsss,

    Yes, kopiyka is 1/100 of hryvnia. By the way, the coins of 1,2,5 and 25 are no longer in circulation

    100_percent_a_bot,
