    Watched this last week. Great movie! Long but I wasn’t tired of it at all at the end. Improbably happy ending by Lanthimos standards. Super lavish sets, lots of entertaining scenes, a whole lot of sex. In fact the movie goes from black and white to color about the time Bela runs off with the Ruffalo character to Lisbon - black and white pre-sex, and color after. Enjoyed the steampunk vibe. Main character is a bit of a Mary Sue, but I’ll allow it.

    SirEDCaLot, in Paramount, Warner Bros Discovery are in early talks to merge

    Can we please fucking not? Unless everyone in charge of discovery gets fired… That might be a good thing. Not holding my breath for that though. Hopefully some regulators can stop this

    Shyfer, in Paramount, Warner Bros Discovery are in early talks to merge

    Please no. Please no. Please no. Godamn it Biden labor secretary, please stop this shit.

    Sadly, as these things tend to go, more victims are likely to come forward.

    How about no?

    Stovetop, in Paramount, Warner Bros Discovery are in early talks to merge

    Can we just stop with the megacorp bullshit? Can regulators just please take a step back and look at how much has been ruined by all of these merges and buyouts?

    The Warner-Discovery merger never even should have happened in the first place. It was a disaster that ended up making things worse for customers and creators alike. And now they want more?

    Fuck off with this noise. What will it take for us to resurrect Teddy Roosevelt so he can go to town with the ol’ trust busting stick?

    When the review embargo was set for 15 hours after it opened in the UK, I knew the reviews weren’t going to be favourable.

    The thing I would have done? Don’t hire Zack Snyder to start a cinematic universe. And also tell him to take his daughter to a mental health professional.

    My hope for the future is that they actually do a Justice League movie based on “The New Frontier”.

    ConditionOverload, in Bradley Cooper is the latest director to ban chairs from his movie set. Some famed filmmakers also ban phones
    @ConditionOverload@lemmy.world avatar

    Apparently other directors also follow similar ideologies. Not sure why chairs should be banned at all. Phones? I get that, understandable. But chairs? Come on…

    Love this post. I’ll pin it for more visibility. And once you get a good list, I can add to the sidebar. Oh, I’d also put each link on a new line, just to make it easier to read. It looks one long link in each section, currently. Or like you said, I can make a post later and organize it if you want too.

    My contributions:

    Dan Murrell on YouTube. I find I’m in agreement with his reviews most of the time.

    The Filmcast podcast is the only one I listen to regularly these days.

    turkelton,

    Hi, thanks for the pin : ) They were in new lines, it just formatted to this when I posted. I made double new lines now.

    canthidium,
    @canthidium@lemmy.world avatar

    Oh yeah, it’s the Lemmy formatting. if you put 2 spaces or a backslash at the end it will add a line break and it won’t be double spaced, if you want to tighten it up a bit. Also you can insert a horizontal line by typing at least 3 dashes if that’s what you were going for with the row of pound signs. Looks like this:

    Thanks for updating, looks great!

    turkelton,

    Hey - just wanted to say that I started listening to the Filmcast on a regular basis because of your recommendation - thanks : )

    canthidium,
    @canthidium@lemmy.world avatar

    Awesome! They have great chemistry and I love that they don’t always agree on movies. Gives a good variety of opinions. Jeff Cannata also does a podcast called DLC, as well as a interesting science podcast called We Have Concerns, if you’re into those at all.

    turkelton,

    I love that too - thanks for the other recommendations, I’ll look / listen in it

    Recentlish movie with him that I really enjoyed:

    Mandy (2018): Slasher/LSD infused terror movie excellently acted by Cage (that scream at the bathroom is a delight), with a really interesting cinematography.

    Color of out space (2019): I don’t remember a lot about this one, except that scene at the kitchen.

    Pig (2021): seek and revenge thriller that would make you cry.

    The unbearable weight of massive talent (2022): funny action movie, Pedro Pascal steal the spotlight, but Cage doesn’t get behind.

    Pig was a masterpiece. Mandy is insane.

    I enjoyed him as Dracula in Renfield recently - my mini review here.

    JJROKCZ,

    I also enjoyed Renfield, didn’t go into it with a lot of expectations and left happy with my decision after having some good laughs

    Noted, I’m watching it this weekend.

    livus,
    @livus@kbin.social avatar

    @driving_crooner cool! The plot is terrible but the film's a lot of fun.

    WarmSoda,

    Color out of space is great. It’s just a family dealing with a little cosmic horror for the weekend.

    Algaroth, (edited )

    I don’t remember a lot about this one, except that scene at the kitchen.

    That is such a Cage movie summary it should be on the cover. Sold me on it.

    So many of his movies have the effect you end up wondering whether you fell asleep during it and dreamt some of it.
