The Sapmi are really taking up the fight here, you guys, not just for them, but for Norwegians as well.
For some context, the windmills in Norway are EXTREMELY disliked. Partly because trusting cost cutting European companies was a mistake (they are proned to error have a tendency to fall apart) and partly because they make the Norwegian landscape look ugly AF.
Fun fact about Norwegians, is that we are suppusedly “national romantics”, in that norwegians supposedly worship the forests , the mountains, the fjords… until the deforestation, wanting to dump coals in the fjords, the fucking cruise liner tourism my fucking GOD the cruise liner tourism…
Suffice to say, our neo-liberal parties are a bunch of toadies. I and many other Norwegians thank the Sapmi for checking the powers that be. But we still gotta protest, we still gotta make sure collective power isn’t trumped by elitism.
Also, the government “gave back” a ton of land to a Baron family, which was acquired by the Norwegian government because all nature belongs to Norwegians. Its now being defrosted as we speak. See how neo-liberalism is also fucking up Norway?
If they dump their currency and use USD, then as long as there arnough dollars around it solves inflation right? (Their economy is a blip to the Goliath that is USD)
But if that’s the case, then their currency is useless as everyone knows if will have zero value at all in a few months/years.
It does mean they can’t print money to get out of trouble though… Not that that was going well for them before.
To touch on one point mentioned in the article, I think the release of the tax revenue should come with clear conditions. The PA has a massive martyr’s fund that they are using to pay out the relatives of those killed, injured or imprisoned in the conflict, primarily terrorists. They are paying out hundreds of millions each year:
The withheld amount is much smaller than this fund. It would make no sense to allow this to continue, since the very same PA that wants to administer Gaza after this war is over is also heavily financially supporting and incentivizing continued violence.
It’s difficult to imagine what it must be like for that to be your childhood experience – piles of corpses, relatives buried in rubble, pain, hunger, suffering, fear. And you don’t even know why the hell they are doing this to you.
Didn’t he win the vote? Trump lost the vote. He won the election because the American system is designed to sometimes hand victory to the loser - Trump was the 5th or 6th example to date.
He was voted on by 14.5 million votes, which was 56% of the votes, but it is also out of a population of 45 million, and he only got 30% in the first round of votes. They have a completely different voting system to the US, so they had a second round of runoffs.
The point is, no most people in Argentina did not vote for him, but many did not vote at all.
I’m sad for the common folk who will be hurt here, even the ones that voted for him because they desperately needed relief. I fear they’ve jumped from the frying pan into the fire.
That’s exactly what they did, and we all knew this was going to happen. Like I said before, if you don’t manage to cut your toenails with a fryig pan a gun is not going te be much help either, dumb fucking cunts
You should use the original link as the post link, then lemmy will automatically reference the cross-posts (also the cross-post link will be instance agnostic so it won’t pull people out of their local instance).
Hm, could you explain how is that supposed to work in more detail? I still see the cross post link as taking me to the other instance; furthermore, even the share link and “open in browser” in Liftoff are taking me out of the instance 🤔
I think maybe not all apps show the automated cross-post link - I’m not seeing it right now on Jerboa. But yeah I think basically your instance checks the link against all other links it has (both local communities and federated) then it just adds cross-post links for each one, as well as a link to the new post in the old posts.
74 lashings is insane. Whips cause some of the most severe acute pain which is possible to experience with 10 lashes often being lethal from just the shock. Hopefully the Iranian people can overcome this and take back some control.
I understand that a lot of “moral” crimes in Iran are like how Americans used to regard pot, something that is illegal which most people are fine with even though you would never want the police to find out if you had done it. Alcohol is easy to find in their public markets, for example. Hopefully this egregious event attracts some support from people who hadn’t taken it as seriously.
Yearly inflation for December 2023 has been 160% (stuff that used to cost 100, now costs 260)
A 50% devaluation, is the same as a 100% inflation: stuff that used to cost 100, now costs 200.
Milei has promised a reduction in inflation for the next year, from the 160% to just 60% (stuff that used to cost 100, plus through the 50% devaluation now costs 200, will end up costing just another 60% more, or 320“160”).
Meaning: instead of having to anounce a 220% inflation for 2024, he’s split it into “50% devaluation, plus 60% inflation”.
…see? He promised to reduce inflation, and he did! 🎉🤡 /s
