WhoPutDisHere, in For those who pirate songs, how do you discover new music?

Usually I look to my private trackers top 10 of the day/week.

Rarely does something new slip by me.

dillekant, in For those who pirate songs, how do you discover new music?

IRC

hexagonwin,

which channel/server is active and good for this sorta stuff?

dillekant,

I used to be on dalnet’s metal channel. Guessing there are active channels somewhere. Now I actually use my work slack.

My broader point is that you need a community, not a tool.

brezelradar, in For those who pirate songs, how do you discover new music?

tunefind when I hear something I like while binge watching, and occasionally to see what others seem to enjoy these days (although that only matches in say 10-15% of the cases).

Gooey0210, in For those who pirate songs, how do you discover new music?

Not for music, but there’s github.com/Fallenbagel/jellyseerr

korny, in How are you watching the NHL this season?

Nhlbite.com is a great streaming site for all games.

I’m all for this post, but I feel like someone needs to ask: What features from Youtube am I losing out on by using these alternate front-ends? (instead of just continuing the cat-and-mouse game between uBlock Origin and Google while at leat preserving the same features and UI that we’re already very mu ch comfortable with)

rush, (edited )

You lose:

  • Your existing YouTube account, which can only be manually imported (subscriptions)
  • Account-Based/Algorithmic Homescreen recommendations
  • Some higher resolutions (e.g 4K) (very dependant on instance, I don’t have a list of instances with their max resolutions)
  • The UI will be somewhat different, but not necessarily hard to navigate
  • probably more random stuff idk

  1. Google searches for open directories. One dude found an RIAA directory full of media, but it quickly got secured.
  2. YouTube
  3. Ringtone sites
  4. Asian (Indian) sites, with heavy use of Google translate.

loboaureo, in The simplest guide to pirating games on Linux

I’ve gonna read this carefully later.

For now I have a doubt. I have a decent amount of games on steam. My account is in danger with these external games? Can I have 2 steam installations?(I know I can have 2 accounts)

people_are_cute,
@people_are_cute@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

No, your account is not in danger. Steam doesn’t care. It’s not like they could take any action even if they knew the non-steam game you added was pirated, in the first place. They don’t hold the IP of every game and cannot police you on their publishers’ behalf.

loboaureo,

Thanks for your time!!
