_s10e, in Blocking app access to the internet

Just a note: The app ‘Rethink DNS and Firewall’ can do this with any Wireguard VPN.

wincing_nucleus073, in Blocking app access to the internet

it seems like you merely need to disable the “Block connections without VPN”.

Then in your android settings there should be a toggle to deny network access to certain apps in the android permission settings. so the apps that are split tunneled you can just deny or allow network

starlord,

I haven’t been able to find this setting. I’ve heard about it on other devices but mine doesn’t seem to have it.

wincing_nucleus073,

Which setting exactly are you referring to?

Vexz,

On my device: Settings > Internet & Connectivity > VPN > Cogweel next to the VPN settings > There's the option

_s10e,

Do all versions of Android have this? I’m on Samsung Android 14 and I can’t find this.

Vexz,

I don't have a Samsung but on my device:
Settings > Internet & Connectivity > VPN > Cogweel next to the VPN settings > There's the option

Pantherina, in Mull vs Fennec

Use Mull. Fennec is just debloated not hardened.

Undertaker, (edited ) in Mull vs Fennec

Mull is better in terms of privacy and security but breaks some Websites and addons

pruneaue, in Mull vs Fennec

I personally have used mull exclusively in the past, but use Fennec currently.

Commenting here just to ask others: mull has been terrible since Android 14. Is that just for me? Pages not loading at all until cache is cleared every few minutes, its been completely unusable for me so i switched.
Nothing like that on their github or nothing. Im on a pixel8/grapheneOS

iSeth,

Do you have darkreader installed?

pruneaue,

Not on mobile, no

@itsaj26744@programming.dev avatar

Is auto theme switch not working for u?

boerbiet,

I thought Graphene was the culprit. When I switched it was still Android 13 and Mull was unusable. I couldn’t interact with it at random until I restarted it, which was quite the problem. Tried Fennec and have had no issues since.

pruneaue,

Ok yeah im in the exact same boat. Mull was also unusable on stock on android 14 (pre gos release); i kinda expected it to fix it.
It works just fine still on my pixel 4a so its odd…

ExtremeDullard, (edited ) in Apple will require court order to give push notification data to law enforcement
@ExtremeDullard@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

This is where you clearly see Apple is all about privacy posturing and not much about actual privacy.

If they really cared about their customers’ privacy, they would require notification servers registered with APN to push notifications encrypted with a key that only the recipient apps have the private key to. This would be true end-to-end encryption, and Apple would only relay encrypted notifications across, enabling them to deny all subpoenas and any kind of snooping requests from law enforcement on the simple basis that they plain can’t even decode the notifications in the first place.

The very fact that they do have access to the notifications in clear-text is undeniable evidence that they actively want and do collaborate with law enforcement.

Meaning Apple’s stance on privacy is utter BS - something anybody with a modicum of critical thinking suspected from the start, but now the evidence is crystal-clear.

Dust0741, in Mull vs Fennec

If I remember CYT does better on Fennic than Mull.

jacktherippah,

CYT sucks. Use browserleaks.com

Samsy, (edited ) in Mull vs Fennec

I used both, and my experience is, that mull has better privacy features but a lot of pages are broken. I go with fennec, because of that.

  • Anonymouse,

Good call-outs! I feel like this sort of legislature would also appeal to both sides of the aisle.

Believe Mull is better strictly when it comes to Privacy. However I personally prefer Fennec as its closer to the Firefox experience.

  • sintrenton,

Not yet. I was trying to go with the browser first, before “IYAP” 😉 (“Install Yet Another App”) But I am likely to end up there.

    shortwavesurfer, in Mull vs Fennec

From what I understand, mull is more privacy-centric than fennec. However, I don’t use it because I had trouble accessing some websites with it.

    sintrenton,

    Shared experience then. Thanks!

ScreaminOctopus, in Review of The Search Engine Kagi

Tried kagi due to all the yapping here on lemmy, 99% of the results are exactly the same as ddg, no matter what their “x% unique kagi results” says, which just strikes me as dishonest. If they’re going to lie to me about things I can check, why would I trust them when they say they don’t log or track?

There’s definitely some kind of astroturf marketing campaign going on here, this guy’s only interaction with the fediverse is posting a link to some softball piece review of an incredibly underwhelming service.

    grayman,

I was wondering about the astroturfing. The support didn’t seem super organic. I’m not dumb enough to not understand how modern marketing works. I tried it and was not impressed too. It’s also stupid expensive. Thanks for the confirmation. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person here that wasn’t paid to use it.

    ramblinguy,

I can tell you that I’ve been using Kagi for a few months and it hasn’t been life changing or anything. But I would say that it has been useful enough to keep around. I honestly like the info dense layout over the other search sites, and I use the ability to push down or block sites entirely so I don’t see the spam sites I don’t want to see. Also, “quick answers” is actually pretty useful sometimes when I don’t want to click on any of the search results. Plus, with the $10 sub, you get unlimited uses of the summarizer, which has been great for arxiv papers.

I wouldn’t say it’s for everyone and I don’t know if there’s astroturfing going on, but it’s been useful enough for me to keep paying the $10 a month

One of the big organs of the EU deliberately breaking EU law. Always cool when that happens.

Although, they’ve proven themselves to be so incompetent, I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t actually know EU law.
