I always figured the real authentication was tied into the comm badges, and the authorization codes were just a fancy “are you sure”

astroturds, in Ah yes, famously apolitical Star Trek

I swear people that don’t watch trek think it’s just about lasers and technobabble.

I know people that refused to watch Discovery because ‘they made it all woke and now it’s all about women’.

Star Trek in 1966: has a bridge crew containing a black female, Russian man, and faaaabulous Japanese man, each of whom holds the rank of full Lieutenant on their own abundant merits

TrainsAreCool, in Ah yes, famously apolitical Star Trek

I’m sure they also watch Starship Troopers and completely miss the fact that it’s a satire.

The NX-01 is the most beautiful Enterprise. Fight me.

I love the utilitarian design, it really looks like something we would send out in to deep space for the first time. Quarters that look more like dorm rooms, uniforms that don’t look like pajamas, those buttresses in the corridors, LCD panels. But they also include design elements that look like embryonic versions of elements from TOS. It’s great.

I'm in this meme, and I'm totally ok with that. Hun if you see this the landspeeder with 1890 pieces please! Love you!

TWeaK,

Those aren’t Lego…

Spiracle,
@Spiracle@kbin.social avatar

Okay?

If you want a more LEGO-like feel, you can probably replace the high quality printed blocks with some stickers.

I’m old enough to remember when Rick Berman was the guy who ruined Star Trek.

That’s just management skills. Look at this team shining!

J. J. Abrams: Why are you booing me? I'm right.

Anticorp,

Picard series too. Spock’s reaction is about how I felt during most of the series.

The federation doesn’t have money the have solved the scarcity problem

Blamemeta,

Latnium exists

Thedogspaw,
@Thedogspaw@midwest.social avatar

Not the federation latnium is used by non federation worlds and occasionally by fed when dealing with non fed people but nobody in the fed uses it

Blamemeta,

Im not sure they ever explicitly said it, or at least not in the Roddenberry era.

Thedogspaw,
@Thedogspaw@midwest.social avatar

Kirk says money doesn’t exist in the voyage home

GaiusGornicusCaesar,
@GaiusGornicusCaesar@startrek.website avatar

While money may not exist on Earth or the core worlds (or the entire federation) per se, there still are Federation credits for use on non-federation worlds, space stations near independent powers, and for commerce with other independent nations (like the negotiations for the Barzan Wormhole). So maybe like on Ferenginar (if it can convert into Latinum) Qo’noS (if they have money), Romulus, or any other economy. So while he may not of used money (as he only bought from Federation worlds), there still is money. It also can be used for worlds which have not made the transition to a post-scarcity/money environment. And to add to that, the Bank of Bolarus implies that some money is used by the federation. So while you are right in that citizens of the federation probably get stuff for free, that doesn’t mean money doesn’t necessarily exist (which you did point out.)

DharmaCurious, in Especially true after the Lemmy devs confirmed it
@DharmaCurious@startrek.website avatar

Can’t even blame em. Started out in lemmy.world and switched to startrek.website the first time .world went out and someone explained to me how that works with being overloaded. Haven’t looked back sense. The local timeline is awesome, the federation is awesome. It really showcases the benefit of a federated service. It made Lemmy such a great replacement for me, whereas before I was struggling to get into lemmy.

EinfachUnersetzlich, in Let this be stuck in your head for the next week

Is this something I’m too European to understand?
