I recently got it into my head to compare the various popular video codecs in an effort to better understand how av1 works and looks compared to x264 and x265. I also had ideas of using a intel video card to compress a home video security setup, and what levels of compression I would need to get good results....

I work in tech and am constantly finding solutions to problems, often on other people’s tech blogs, that I think “I should write that down somewhere” and, well, I want to actually start doing that, but I don’t want to pay someone else to host it....

I only download 1080p unless it’s something like LOTR that I’ll splurge on space for. A comedy doesn’t need spectacular visual fidelity....

n00b question, sorry. If I had a desktop that could hold 4 HD and 2 SSD, could I turn it into a NAS? Could someone point me in the right direction if this makes sense?

Simple as that, I have a few GPUs hanging around and I want to build a GPU node for my kubernetes cluster. I already have one, GPUs are attached and it can do cool things like transcoding plex easy enough, but I’m starting to look to the horizon for my next big projects....

I found this its the cheapest 10TB Exos drive on Newegg and looking to buy 4 of them. I will be putting them in my NAS that I use for my media library and pc backups. The price I’m posting this is $130, I’m also looking similar Exos drives that are $250 is there a difference? Should I shell up for the more expensive drives?

Hello! This might not be the right community but I’m looking at building a new server and you operate in similar areas and might have experience with this. I’ve got a GPU without video outputs, can I combine that with a CPU without integrated graphics and still get video output from the HDMI located on the motherboard?

I have started trying out xcp-ng as an alternative to VMWare solutions for virtualization. Currently I have setup 3 VMs of xcp-ng v8.2.1. I have also setup Xen Orxhestra build from source....

I’ve got my main house server that has a number of dockerized applications, including nextcloud-aio. Nextcloud-AIO comes with a built-in backup system using BorgBackups. I’ve had this running and doing my backups, it is probably fine. Notable, it does encrypt the backup....
