I consider Andor to be in a class of its own in quality. The cinematography & writing are simply amazing; it’s very clear that the show runners have something to say, and went to great lengths to bring that vision to the screen. Criminally underrated by the wider audience, I consider s1 to be in the ranks of the best tv shows I’ve seen, period, never mind just as star wars material.

It was competing for attention with house of the dragon with no jedis.

UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT,

I don’t want to oversell it but I honestly think Andor is the best thing to come out of Star Wars in decades. It’s like the last flower of the franchise.

I don’t know how it could ever be topped. For me, it’s the peak of it all.

c524iwlj, in People who read the Thrawn Trilogy, what do you think of it?

Complaint first, thrawn suffers from the same problem as Sherlock homes in that their genius is a contrivance of the author. I.e. they know perfect things because they’re written to.

Other than that the books are well written & paced. Amongst the best Star Wars books there are.

It’s crazy to think she was only 22-23 when she filmed Empire strikes back. She always has this authority and confidence that made her seem much older.

If franchise fatigue is a thing, by looking at this picture I realized I reached it a long time ago.

esc27,

I reached it midway through mandalorian season 3. Still haven’t finished it or watched any of the series that came out since.

Macaroni_ninja,

You and me both, I just can’t keep investing more and more time to keep up with things.

shasta,

Maybe the real problem is not star wars, but your lack of free time

Macaroni_ninja,
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

Or I just like enjoying a well told story without the need to previously see dozens of hours worth of content which is remotely relevant in order to understand every reference and know each character’s backstory.

Klear,

I reached it midway through Phantom Menace.

worldsayshi,

The only things I’ve watched of these is Rogue One and Andor and I doubt the other things is up in the same class but I might be wrong.

Delphia, in George Lucas demonstrating how to use an E-11 blaster on the set of Star Wars

Say whatever you want about where he took the franchise later and rereleases and whoring it out for every red cent… The man had a hell of a vision back in the day

Reminds me of all those cut aways my dad had posted up in his shot of medieval castles and ships. They always had one guy pooping somewhere. Instinctively looked for the guy pooping in this one.

She boned a good chunk of the crew on those movies if you believe the rumors.

She liked to bone.

DigitalGemini, in People who read the Thrawn Trilogy, what do you think of it?

These are the sequels in my mind regardless of what Disney says. They will probably be pulled from further for future TV and film. Thrawn is arguably the second most interesting antagonist after Vader.

Great write-up! I agree with all of your aesthetic picks. I first saw A New Hope when I was 11, and even at that age - having grown up on a cinematic diet of WWII films - the DLT-19 stood out as a wierdly familiar and out-of-place gun.

Enjoyable read, thanks!
