Shouldn’t his head tilt the other way?

fibojoly,

No. You’ve to turn him around in your head, so that he’s facing a painting and you’ll see it matches ;)

Did Gary Larson think Alexander the Great was a medieval figure? This comic looks medieval, their clothes look medieval… And I’m pretty sure he’s drawn comics of people in togas and stuff so he has some knowledge of bronze age Greece looking different from medieval Europe. Maybe he just didn’t want to overthink this one.

Alexander the Pretty Good was obviously a completely different and later character.

Never understood this one

dragonfly,

Cows are often described as content, with phases like “chewing contentedly on its cud.”

Cold_Brew_Enema, in 28 January 2024

This doesn’t make any sense. These comics are definitely more miss than hit

sugar_in_your_tea,

Can’t confirm.

Why do the dingoes get a bigger enclosure?

PrinceWith999Enemies, in 26 January 2024

Yes. This is actually how humans work. We are not only social animals, but eusocial - similar to bees and ants. We are unique among primates in that regard, and one of only a few species of mammals that gets that designation (the other two being mole rats).

Not only were they a superpredator that preyed on apex predators, not only were they present in great numbers, but terrifyingly-enough, humans also worked together.

This comic goes harder than most Far Sides

Sometimes Gary Larson gets you right in the feels.

wizzor, in 19 January 2024

A far side comic that I got. A rare treat.

bionicjoey, in 19 January 2024

I honestly don’t get this one… Like I get the comic but unless there’s something I’m missing I don’t understand the actual joke here. I know it’s a typical Far Side “what if humans, but animals?” comic, but I don’t get what’s being swapped out here. Is the joke that flies would call the news “poop”? Is the joke that the actual news is that there is poop?

Tremble,

In human news they would have cliffhangers that are supposed to get people excited about staying up till 11 watch the news. So, murderer on the loose in your neighborhood, more at eleven.

In this case the thing that will get the flies excited enough to keep watching is to say there is poop coming up.

bionicjoey,

Ah okay. That makes sense

See #6

poop noun slang : information, scoop

SatyrSack,

Where’s the poop, Robin?

bionicjoey,

Oh shit. I didn’t even think of that. That makes a lot of sense.

TheRealLinga, in 16 January 2024

Can someone explain this?

synae,
@synae@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Seems like it’s meant to suggest it was a comic idea mailed in by a fan. But, I don’t believe that’s something Larson actually did/does, so the joke is that he takes fan submissions, no matter how absurd - perhaps commentary on his own work not always making sense?
