Can I subscribe to Lemmy communities from kbin? If so, how?

riktor,
@riktor@kbin.social avatar

@HomerAtTheBat search for the community in the Magazines area of kbin and it will return you results from kbin and other instances (lemmy.world, sh.itjust.works, etc.) magazines is what kbin calls communities.

Why am I not receiving any notifications?

I have active threads with replies here on kbin, but I'm not getting any notifications for them in the notifications tab. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Not sure what to do....

Have you checked whether you have notifications enabled in the settings? I thought I had the same problem until I checked there and noticed that they were all turned off by default.

Infinity going subscription-only!

Infinity Announcement

This morning when I opened Infinity to check Reddit, I saw the announcement above: they're going subscription-only. Ironically enough, I couldn't scroll down to see the rest of the message including prices, if there were any. I also couldn't see if there was a button to close the message or start a paid subscription. I couldn't proceed to Reddit at all. My only option was to close the app completely. So I uninstalled it.

That's it for me using Reddit on mobile! Can't say I'll miss it much. But I added a LOT of content to Reddit that way, so it's their loss. Fuck you, spez!

I have auto update turned off for apps, so I didn't get the last update for Infinity and I can still use it to see Reddit, for now. Once it dies I'm out though. I can't imagine they will be able to get enough subscriptions to support the app, so I'm not really sure what the goal is here.

The Infinity listing in the Play store links to this post that has a bit more info (warning: Reddit link) https://www.reddit.com/r/Infinity_For_Reddit/comments/147bhsg/the_future_of_infinity/

Even the people subbed to r/Infinity_For_Reddit are saying they won't buy a subscription. Wouldn't Infinity be racking up a huge bill from Reddit once the API change goes into effect? There's no way subscriptions will cover that so I don't understand why they're doing this.

How do I send a private message to another fediverse user from kbin? I thought maybe if I viewed their profile I'd have the option, but nothing obvious stood out.

NotBadAndYou,

Wait, I found it - Once you click on the user there's a Send Message icon in the right-hand panel:

Do Moscow Mules taste different if they are served in a pure copper mug or a copper mug with a stainless steel lining?

Cap,
@Cap@kbin.social avatar

Did a little digging and saw this:

Some experts say that the mug enhances the individual flavors of the ginger beer, vodka, and lime. The copper begins to oxidize when the vodka touches the walls of the mug, they say, which slightly boosts the aroma and enhances the taste of the vodka.

Knowing me, I'd never be able to tell the difference. As long as there is a strong kick to my Mule I'm a happy Muleteer.

Can I block/unsub certain magainzes from other fedis? For example I am getting a lot of .de content, and I can't read the language, and would rather not see it.

LoFi-Enchilada,
@LoFi-Enchilada@kbin.social avatar

@Books

Click on the community that you want to hide and on its sidebar you should see a 🚫 symbol, right next to the "Subscribe" button. Once you turn it to red, you will stop seeing content from that community in m/all

What part of Kbin do you like the most ?

kreynen,
@kreynen@kbin.social avatar

@xc2215x the irony that some the improvements made to modernize the version of PHP it runs on were contributed by Facebook and the fact that it's Twig template files can be modified by anyone familiar with HTML and CSS. You don't need to know PHP to contribute improvements.

Getting error message while trying to create a magazine? Any ideas why? Or where I could get a step-by-step tutorial?

admin,
@admin@kbin.social avatar

@barnyard_noise I'll be releasing a full guide on creating and moderating your magazine soon. Be sure to look for it on /m/kbinMeta and /m/ModHelp.

xuxebiko, to RedditMigration

One option to reduce interaction with spez-ruled reddit is to use https://reddit.adminforge.de.

Eg: to access r/modcoord, use https://reddit.adminforge.de/r/ModCoord

Any other ideas to deny that greedy little fascist pig boy his joy?

lemmit.online is scraping the posts from select subreddits without an API so that will work even after July 1st.

markisus, to AskKbin

What is the meaning of so many posts referencing “Rule”? Like it will be a meme post but one of the words is replaced with the word “Rule”

borkcorkedforks,

@markisus The magazine or community is just about posting random things. The only rule is that you're supposed to post before you leave. So "rule"

Will something be done about moderators owning 50+ magazines/communities and counting? Already seeing power mods migrate from Reddit trying to hoard as many communities as possible.

CorrodedCranium,
@CorrodedCranium@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

Do you think they are actively trying to become moderators of those communities or is there a chance they're trying to recreate the subreddits they're accustomed to?

Hey Kbin, is it possible to unblur NSFW images?

I have "hide adult content" turned off in my profile settings but when i visit some NSFW magazine (e.g. lemmynsfw.com) it blurs some images until i hover over them
