Brand new here. Been kinda "poking around" the past couple weeks but it's looking more and more like a viable alternative to Reddit. Just wondering if there's a way to display only the magazines I'm subscribed to?
If you want to see the full list of which magazines your subscribed to, it's in your profile. If you're in the website you click/tap n your username and then choose profiles. Then you have to use the arrows to see more options at the top. If you keep hitting the arrow you'll eventually get to "subscribed." I think that's what you're looking for.
There's one in development for kbin that's intended to work for both iOS and android. It's honestly looking pretty good. Right now, it's still in private beta, scheduled to go public mid/late July, but you could always see if there's still room on the pinned sign up form. I'm sure the dev would love as many testers as she can get
I know there’s only a few days before 3rd party apps no longer function so this idea may be too late…
I’ve been reading about scripts that automatically delete all of your Reddit posts and comments. I would like to see one of those scripts written into the third party apps so that I can nuke the site from orbit upon my escape. It’s the only way to be sure.
Is there a kbin Android app yet? I know the web app works, which is what I'm using now, but would really like a native app. I'm assuming these are being worked on and just need time to bake!
As I recall, Reddit really dragged their heels in implementing GDPR-mandated data checkouts, citing technical challenges and privacy issues, but I'm sure it was more about the technical challenges and laziness (old codebase that has kind of sucked since forever and they're not keen on touching it). This was when the law went into effect in 2018.
I requested archives of my data from Reddit as per GDPR a few weeks ago, and it's still pending. And the page said "oh, uh, we'll provide them within 30 days." ...which is well within the letter of the law, if not the spirit. Other sites I've requested my data from can provide it within days, usually.
All I can say as someone who's been perplexed about Reddit's tech side for a long time is that it's pretty damn emblematic of the whole site.
They might not have bothered to implement an automated setup just for EU & UK users, meaning it's an ad-hoc process each time. If they go over the 1 month you can head over to the ICO website and file a report.
For me, it's a bidet toilet seat. I bought one that didn't really fit as well as I hoped, so now I am shopping for a v2 based on experience. I don't want to live without one going forward. That's for sure.
I read a lot. I used to always keep a paperback book with me ever since I was a teenager. My Kindle goes everywhere with me, since I got my first one in 2009. I just wish they’d make them smaller, the first Oasis was the perfect size for carrying around all the time (I’m a guy, no purse).
How do I hide (blacklist) certain magazines from showing up on All?
I love to browse All to find new popular magazines every day. However, I can't speak German and a significant portion of my All page is in German.
Is there any way to keep browsing All but filter out specific magazines of my choosing? Or even better, is there a language selection I can set somewhere?
If you go to the magazine’s sidebar there’s a block button. On kbin and the lemmy web browser it’s by the subscribe button on the sidebar, on Memmy you have to hit the 3 dots on the top right of the magazine’s feed page. On Mlem…. I haven’t figured it out yet.
Like many others, I've been wondering "Hmm, where the heck do I get all the cute animal pictures now?"
...but the answer to that question was staring me right in the face.
I'd just do what I've always done if I want cute animal pictures.
I mean, Pinterest is right there.
Reject subredditery, embrace tradition.
Literally every other suggested post is about anti-trans stuff or gun rights. Is it because I commented once in a thread about how Trudeau isn't a fascist?
@rackmountrambo Facebook (and Twitter, for that matter) are formulated to push extreme-right-wing views because those get the most engagement, either from disgust or zealous approval.
People who like fascism also like clicking suspicious ads for penis enlargement pills and barely-legal teens in their area, which makes Facebook and Twitter more money. It's a consequence of advertisers gaining control of all media.
Terrorvision were the first rock band I heard and was like, 'this is it'. In was sat on the floor in the living room listening to the radio on big ass 80's headphones and Alice What's the Matter came on. I was hooked and from then on I've been a rock and guitar fan. You just can't beat a good overdriven rock guitar sound it's magical.
Poor kid earned one, worthy or not, as a Father’s Day gift to his dad. Ultimate irony. Only person on board for whom I could have shed a tear actually…
Cost of living is sky high; can we all share our best tips for saving money?
We started eating healthier, meal planning, and shopping places like Grocery Outlet before we hit the regular store for whatever we couldn't find. Our food bills for 2 adults went down considerably. If a trip would've been 50, it's now more like 35, and we eat a lot more veggies now, so win-win. We are also cancelling our subscriptions and checking movies and tv series out from the library to entertain ourselves, and walking/biking to work (realize not everyone can do this).
FAST TV services (free, ad supported streaming), is taking over traditional pay services so there’s that. Hoopla/Kanopy are free with library card as well. OTA antennas (not the junk ones but Winegard, AntennasDirect, Mohu…).
Adding solar powered devices individually in lieu of a full upgrade.
You mentioned grocery outlet and meal planning already. Those two together is a MAJOR saver on the front and back ends. Kudos to you! Better foods also lead to better health and longevity along with lower medical bills. Being at the doctor less tends to lessen your exposure to medical malpractice and less nefarious but similarly detrimental to the patient… errors.
Enjoy nature! It’s free and beautiful!
Do simple tweaks… Hypermile driving style, turn thermostats up or down only a degree or two. Minimal changes to comfort but notable changes to utility bills.
Keep insurance paid up! Keep an honest insurance company too.
Use GasBuddy to find the best prices on gas.
Lock in utility rates ideally with companies with no early termination fee just in case prices drop significantly during the life of the original contract. These companies exist and we customers can use them against each other to effectively and indirectly “keep them honest” all the while keeping our utility rates at the low end of what’s possible.
Use apps like Ibotta and Fetch to get cash back on purchases that ARE made at the “normal” stores.
Enjoy what you already have… games, movies, books, family.
Perform or secure proper maintenance on the expensive items (yard equipment, vehicles, computers, etc).
Get off the treadmill most embrace and craft your own forward path. That’s basically what all these things do for us. And by all these things I mean my list, your list and all other legitimate tips humans have.
