There are a bunch of studies that show that there is minor map advantage on most (not all) measures for trans athletes a few years after transitioning with hormone therapy. Some trans people never go through puberty of their assigned sex at birth.
I used to be of the view that it wasn’t fair for someone who was amab to have an innate advantage over someone else who wasn’t. However, we should also consider where they would compete. Is it fair to have trans women compete against cis males who now have a similar, but more profound, advantage over them? Or are they now just excluded?
I’ve come to believe that all sports at the elite level are dominated by those with genetic and physical advantage, usually by luck. Trans people also for in that category, but it’s easier to pinpoint the why for them. All the rules of sport are arbitrary, anyway.
So, after consideration, I think we should have sports open to all that are (identify) as a particular gender. For sports that already categorise by physicality (boxing, weightlifting etc), I don’t think it would be problematic to consider their physicality too. For many sports there is no advantage anyway, after transition. And even if there was, isn’t the point of sports to have fun, to enjoy oneself and have pleasure. Only a rare few people compete at elite levels. Excluding trans people hurts far more.people than it helps.

Public wifi without a VPN is like sex without a condom. The connection may not be encrypted (very risky) and even if it is, you are still susceptible to man-in-the-middle attacks: garlandtechnology.com/…/how-to-monitor-encrypted-…
I guarantee there will be a flood of articles about this over the next few days because of what I quoted above.
It’s also possible that one of his “friends” reported him or something like that.
Gosling maybe deserved a nomination. Robbie didn’t. In an equality world all is well.
Yet some people, the orignal post, have an issue with that weirdly. I see no reason why I should change my opinion.
I actually thought Barbie was fairly egalitarian and not about men doing something better and getting recognition for it. Also the oscars are separated by sex anyway so the post doesn’t make any sense. Robbie got bested by other women.
I just ask that people realize what I realize, which is it’s an issue with ME that I’m not secure enough to be with a person who I can see having sex with someone else. I cannot control my feelings but I am responsible for them, or at the very least, other people are not responsible for them(at least in this example anyway it’s not as if the of model was having sex with other people AT me.)
that really just sounds like victim blaming to me, by that logic couples that have sex often should be miserable too but the precise opposite seems to be the case
Because mental health requires certain conditions, and one of those conditions is each phase of life playing in the correct order.
Sexual interaction with a child screws up their development, because they try to absorb the state of mind of the adult but they can’t because there’s nowhere to put it. So they pantomime it, and it stops them from interacting with the things appropriate to their age. They stop developing, because their energy goes into maintaining this mask.
The things they don’t develop include boundaries, a sense of self, the ability to trust other people, and any opportunity at developing a healthy, normal relationship with sex when they grow up.
It’s somewhat similar to what happens to a child when they are burdened with emotionally caring for their parents. Except it’s more intense, with older parts of the nervous system getting mis-developed.
Think like a baby in a small metal box. As the baby grows, if the box stays there, the growth of his body will be stunted and fucked up. And it’s not like removing the box later allows him to pop into a normal shape. His physical development is ruined. It won’t get back on track.
Sexual interaction with a child is like this metal box, except it’s a behavioral box. It’s a mask. The kid is participating in something he or she doesn’t have the mental configuration to engage with properly. But children absorb patterns from adults around them, and so they take on this pattern, and it’s the wrong pattern for that time in their life, and like the metal box around the baby, it fucks up their mental and emotional development.
Nope, but that guy doesn’t get outraged with the idea of kids being exposed to sex acts. They just get outraged specifically by the thought of them being exposed to gay sex acts.
I have been reading / listening to Dan Savage for years for my sex and relationship advice. With him being a gay man its interesting to hear his perspective as a man and dating men. Its been wonderful for my development and I highly recommend him to everyone.
That being said it would be interesting to hear from a straight or bi men as well. I often hear things that he says about men in general that I disagree with and wonder if its me, a gay thing or something different. A diversity of voices is always helpful especially if its about kink. Its more interesting as a topic and there are plenty of kinky woman writing now and few kinky men. Which is ironic since there are more kinky identified men than woman as a population overall
Samira was a child bride married at 15 and a victim of domestic violence. She had two young children, one a new-born baby, when she was arrested and had not seen her children in ten years. She saw them for the first and last time when they came to the prison to say goodbye....
No, it’s not the same thing. When most Christians, or governments in countries with majority Christian population, hear about priests raping kids, they are disgusted by it and are 100% ok with punishing the offender.
When Muslim countries hear about the above, they think justice has been done. Obviously the girl should have just been a good little child sex slave and went along with whatever her husband wanted. The see shit like this as A-OK.
It’s a false equivalence to say these two views are the same.
Hand of Manos. Most likely thee worst movie ever made. I found it for a screen writing class. The assignment was watch a bad movie then present it to the class. Easiest A+ of my fucking life.
Another weird one is, there used to be a sex Tetris type game for Windows 98 or earlier. Little naked people would drop down and when you got a full line they would jump off the screen. I don’t know how that got on the family PC, but it was on it. I played it. So there’s that.
This question may be moot but it’s something I’ve been thinking about. I’ve only recently jumped into this brave new world so you’ll have to forgive my ignorance....
There’s a lot of factors to consider, enough factors that there’s no consensus on how you make this choice and at the end of the day you have to pick one and run with it.
A random list of some factors you could potentially consider before yolo’ing:
Is the admin team good? Are they power-tripping jerks? Are they ideologues who are likely to defederate the world for no sensible reason? Do they have a good head for policy? There’s no easy way to evaluate this, you have to look at the sidebar to see who the admins are, stalk their posts a bit, read the modlog for banned users (but he aware that moderation decisions are federated and anonymous so it can be hard to tell what mod did what), and you yourself have to be good enough at these things to recognize quality (or at least alignment with your own values).
Is the instance well-funded and is the admin team prepared to deal with the serious stuff like child-porn reports and subpoenas? Again, this is hard to check for. Basically, if an instance has been pretty big for years (there are only like 2 or 3 Lemmy instances like this and they’re all overloaded) or has the admin team run some other big service before?
Are the instance rules compatible with your topic? Don’t run a porn sub in an instance that bans porn. There are vibe concerns as well, like an edgelord meme community is not going to do well on a hyper-moderated safe-space-oriented instance.
Is the community topic geographically based? You might want to pick an instance homed in that geography. This can be eval’ed by using ip-lookup tools of the instance doesn’t advertise its geography.
Is the instance homed in a jurisdiction that has favorable laws for your topic? It’s better to host a community for sex-work or bourbon on an instance in a jurisdiction where those things are legal, rather than in the UAE.
Is there a topic instance that specializes in your topic? There’s a pathfinder TTRPG instance and a star trek instance, is there one for your topic? Note that topic-based instances can fail some other and more important criteria like being an experienced admin team. It’s possible that a topic instance is NOT the right choice, but it’s worth considering.
Is the server overloaded already? Mebbe pick a different one.
Is there already a well run community on another instance? Help that one grow, don’t splinter the community further.
There are many more factors to consider, and no one considers them all. Eventually you have to pick an instance that’s “good enough” and run with it. But those are some of the major factors one could consider if you’re willing to put in the non-trivial amount of effort required to evaluate them.
