0x4E4F,

Getting married is the easy part. Staying married is the hard part 😂.

The output is not valid, it won’t do anything… maybe write to a file “anarchism” in the dir in which the terminal was opened.

0x4E4F,

Steve Balmer wasn’t as keen on it…

0x4E4F,

Well, not exactly. Anarchism is pretty close to what Socialism is, in terms of distributing labour.

0x4E4F,

As much as I’d hate to admit it, everything is politics… talking with your wife is politics.

0x4E4F,

They’re just making face, doing what is necessary to prove they’re not evil, cuz open source software is in now.

0x4E4F,

Yeah, we’re used to it, it’s the only way I’ve watched movies since I was a kid.

I don’t use subs now, maybe English ones cuz sometimes the actors speak way too fast and you have a hard time understanding what they’re saying.

0x4E4F,

Damn, you’re more persitent than me hagling 😂.

You should also probably try and see if the same thing happens in a VM. The flash drive might be failing and I don’t think Void does CRC checks of files when copying them… definitely not when funning them, like the installer for example.

EDIT: I remember the installer bringing me back to the partitioning setup, but that’s because I partition manually, not through the Void installer, so the installer thinks that that step is skipped. No worries though, just go to the end of the installer setup and continue with the provided settings. If an adequate target partition has been set, it will install Void.

Imagine hearing that shit 😬…

What hobbies help you minimize or avoid navigating commercialism?

By commercialism, I’m aiming at a mix of spending a lot and sifting through bloated business models (e.g. this or that accessory/equipment, microtransactions, etc.). Feel like many can relate to this sort of commercial fatigue, and yet it creeps even into hobbies where one tries to unwind....

0x4E4F,

I repair almost everything and just love to tinker with gadgets and tech in general… repurpose/reuse old things, make beter versions of them, etc.

Simple example, all of my old audio equipment now has Bluetooth, an MP3 player, an aux input, a USB port (for MP3 playback) and an SD card reader (also for MP3 playback)… oh and let’s not forget the FM tuner that comes bundled with those thingies 😂. Don’t use it, but still, it is a nice option to have at your disposal 😉.

If you’re hunting down older eqipment (5, 6 years old), no, not really… everything just works with Linux and older stuff. The newer stuff is always the problem with any OS that is not Windows (though that is changing for the better in the last few years, especially for Linux).

0x4E4F, (edited )

Well, for one, it’s network attached storage. If it’s not present in the network for one reason or another, guess what, your OS doesn’t boot… or it errors during boot, depending on how the kernel was compiled and what switches your bootloader sends to the kernel during boot. Second, this is an easy way for malware to spread, especially if it’s set to run after user logon.

0x4E4F,

It has to have a mount point somewhere. Just double click the desktop entry, that will mount it wherever you told it to and then you can copy to that location, easy peasy 😉.

0x4E4F,

Hmm… didn’t know that… but that makes sense 👍… the overflows I mean… good tip, thanks 😉.

0x4E4F,

It didn’t use to be like that after the first wave, with comms such as sewing, there were some gardening subs as well… the only one that kinda took off was the woodworking sub, that’s it.

I opened a few subs myself, related to tech, but not really computer related, none of them took off, only a few posts at the beginning and that was basically it, no new posts whatsoever.

I would argue that now, it’s as user friendly as Reddit is. But, alas, now is too late 😔. There was a wave of instances dissappearing over night (vlemmy, fmhy, etc.), mods abusing power and… well, that crowd just felt safer with commercial media. At least their data and shared images won’t drown into oblivion if an instance owner decided to just close shop 🤷.

0x4E4F,

and I will not ask for the meaning of 20047 or the Englishy greenish color 😉

It’s NO in ASCII and I’m not a native English speaker… and this thing doesn’t have auto correct, underline or suggestions 😒 (Jerboa).

The correct way to share a community on Lemmy (so that apps recognize it as a Lemmy community) is with an exclamation mark, as in your last example. The search in Jerboa (as is with other apps) is broken, doesn’t work like it should. Use the web UI search on your instance, you’ll find the community.

This dude, he called himself Mr. Hands, liked to fuck horses and film it, but he got overfucked, so eventually he died. This made things bad for other horse fuckers, since this case was the reason why a new law was passed in Washington that banned human horse fucking (zoofilia in general actually).

0x4E4F,

Darn it, won’t get anything from pirate santa this year 😔.

Is there any way I can make an old XMMS plugin work in any modern player?

Long story short, I learned there is an XMMS release of a plugin I use in Winamp for music playback (mp3PRO). Sadly, I recoded most of my music to mp3PRO back in the day, and now I’m stuck using Winamp, even on Linux. I like the player, wouldn’t change it, but I wanted to switch to something native, like Audacious or Qmms....

0x4E4F,

I have the original source for some of them, but very few, like maybe 1 or 2%.

Doesn’t matter, I’m just gonna redownload them in flac, store them on optical media as flac and keep them as HE-AAC on my NAS for local playback. It’s the only option that’s acceptable in my mind.

What, they don’t offer binaries 🤨?

Well, at least there is one thing that makes building on Void easier. xbps-src works with templates, so you could just write the template or write on GitHub for help from someone in the Void community. I’ve asked for help many times and people are usually very helpful ☺️. Once you have the template, updating the VST is a matter of just chaging a few things in it (version, hash, etc.) since things like UI dependencies or libraries don’t change that often in releases, those are major changes and usually come with a prior warning by the developer. Meaning, you could just make the template and just change the version numbers and hashes, recompile it and most of the time, that will be just that, bam, you’re up to date ☺️. Sure, there are major updates, but let’s face it, there are very rare. And, you can share the template with others on the official void xbps-src repo or your own repo, however you like 😉. Hell, you could even share the binaries so that other people don’t have to go through the trouble of compiling them manually 😉.

Noticed a strange occurrence where my monitor buttons will not react to presses when certain conditions are met

I have an Acer XV340CKP monitor connected via Display Port to my GPU. I also have a old LG W2253TQ that I use as a secondary display. It only has a DVI and VGA port. I have a DVI-DVI cable together with a DVI-Display Port converter to connect to my GPU, which is an Asus RX6900XT. I am running Nobara 38....

0x4E4F,

Well, it’s not a hardware problem in that case 😉. Good thing you fixed it 👍.

Nmap doesn't return hostnames, only IP addresses

Thought I’d ask here first, then report if it’s a bug. Haven’t used Nmap on Void before. I installed the latest version available in the repos (7.94). Still, no matter what combo of switches I use, it never shows hostnames. I even tried -R (reverse DNS lookup), it still doesn’t report the hostnames. On the other hand,...
