They used to tell kids they would go blind if they do this. :)

Except from Google of course, the worst offender of privacy that exists.

They put all these “privacy” features in so other companies can’t do what Google already does.

If you ever tried using a Google phone without Google apps, you realize how completely dependent almost all apps are on Googles API in the background, and most of them won’t work without it.

This is how I think, but my girlfriend doesn’t, so sometimes it’s really frustrating. I think she is addicted to worrying.

How to cope with existing right now?

It feels like no matter where I turn some septuagenarian, or older, is making life miserable for myself and others. Usually these are older white Christian conservatives, obsessed with a delusional sense of reality that no longer has a basis in fact, or perhaps never did....

One of the reasons that older people have money is because society was sane when they were young. It was even possible for only one parent to work and the other to stay at home and take care of kids and the house.

Every decade since then, things get worse because capitalism wants everyone to work, everyone to buy things, and as few people as possible having enough money to not work. Because money is power and if you are living thanks to a monthly check, you have no power.

The main strategy from the top has always been to divide people as much as possible and distract them from the fact that they can’t get out of the hamster wheel. So there are public discussions about gender politics, environmental issues and other things that divide people into groups, so they argue with eachother and stay distracted from the big picture.

Big picture, we are kind of like slaves but much more comfortable. As long as we can’t stop working, we are slaves in a way, because we don’t have freedom to spend our lives doing what we want in most cases. So we waste our days trying to care about company problems that are all about increasing their profits while paying everyone as little as they can.

Yeah this is not a encouraging post, sorry. I just say what I think here.

The year before covid was great. After that the world went into crazy mode.

But 2023 was a winner compared to 2019 - 2022 I guess.

I’m guessing 2024 will have its own shit show, just not sure what yet.

There is always more information. Error 2 just means the make script couldn’t finish I think. Scroll up :)

You should try inserting a paragraph here and there, because that wall of text is not fun to read… :)

I’m not installing this… Scary. Will wait for 6.6.7 in a few days. :)

Alright, I'm gonna "take one for the team" -- what is with the "downvote-happy" users lately?

Title. “lmao internet points” and all, but what is the point of participating in a community that sees assumptions and other commonly non-harmful commentaries/posts as “bad” this easily? Do folks in here are really that needy of self-validation, even if it means seeking such from something completely insignificant like...

I just post what is true to me. Let people downvote. But yeah, lots of downvotes sometimes because some topics are just “we must all agree or else”.

Large instances are like reddit now, yes.

Oppenheimer was really boring but so was Barbie.

Both were shit, but highly rated.

Looking ahead, Hohndel said, we must talk about "artificial intelligence large language models (LLM). I typically say artificial intelligence is autocorrect on steroids. Because all a large language model does is it predicts what’s the most likely next word that you’re going to use, and then it extrapolates from there, so not really very intelligent, but obviously, the impact that it has on our lives and the reality we live in is significant.

Exactly.

It’s not intelligent because it’s not thinking.

At least my definition of intelligence is thinking. Otherwise a simple pattern matching algorithm like a regexp is also intelligent, or a sorting algorithm that puts things in the right order.

But I agree it’s very efficient and has more data than any single person ever could. It’s a computer, they are great at storing and processing information.

Absolutely awful shit and I would be ashamed for decades if I acted like this to another person.

Really shows the worst of him here. It’s rare that he becomes this toxic and humiliating.

Yeah I was never into arcade games as a kid. I realized right away that they were made to be difficult for that reason, so it felt like they were not worth it.

But games at home, at my commodore 64 or Amiga, were often difficult too. There was often no tutorials even. You just started playing and figured things out. I remember feeling like I had all the time in the world back then. As an adult, I often feel my time is limited and I should be doing something useful with it.

1984,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

That was the thing about old games, they weren’t worried about being difficult sometimes. Gamers were happy to get a challenge.

May i speak to you for a moment about Linux our great savior?

I like deezer and I like that they are not part of big tech. It’s just a small French company with a quality product as an alternative to Spotify, which is in bed with Google and everyone else.

Well worth the money.

They altered the deal.

It was a good deal a few years back, so piracy decreased a lot, and streaming company profits grew a lot. Everyone was happy.

But then they altered the deal. It’s no longer worth the money, and any movie or TV show they have can disappear at any time. They also decided to start flirting with ads, so they burned a lot of trust by doing that.

It’s hard finding something worth watching. Once you have seen the few good shows at one streaming company, the rest is so awful nobody wants to touch it. So the subscriber is supposed to sign up to many streaming companies… Costing them tons of money.

If streaming companies were smart, they would work together and create one streaming service with all existing movies and TV shows, and set a fair price, and depending on what movies or TV shows people choose to watch, the profits go to whatever company makes the best content.

But working together is not what you do in capitalism…

Turns out that when human beings give eachother a break, good things happen.
