Holy snap OP that looks fucking DELICIOUS!

I’m mad jealous of your skills!

It’s a habit I picked up in basic training. We had 50 girls to 12 shower heads, and we really didn’t get much time for all of us to shower at all in the first couple weeks (the time constraint was relaxed after a bit though)

The tooth brushing deal though I think was because our TI would find the tiniest speck of water in the sinks after lights out and absolutely lose his shit. So we only used the sinks to wash our hands, so we didn’t accidentally leave toothpaste in the bowl of the sink and miss it while cleaning up for the evening.

Either way, it’s just a habit that’s stuck with me through the years.

AquaTofana, to foodporn in Polar Vortex? Nothing a bit of Guinness Beef Stew can’t clear up.

I made a big batch of potato soup last night for this exact reason! Got some thick bread to go with it too!

Your stew looks awesome af, and I’m saving that recipe.

Let’s hope that we’re enjoying these from warm houses with functioning pipes throughout tomorrow!

AquaTofana, to asklemmy in Texans, what's the attitude/feelings/preparations towards the coming freezing weather?

Gonna make sure my faucets have a slight drip and the outdoor ones are covered.

Other than that, we’ve got a kerosene heater and a jackery battery that’s been charging for a few days now. We’ll use that for charging phones/plugging in our wifi if the electricity goes out again!

AquaTofana, to memes in Sorry guys, we had a good run

Everything’s gone wrong since Canada came along!

Damn, look at how short the shelving is! I’d be able to get anything I needed by myself!

I just really don’t know how the mandatory training sessions doesn’t solve the problem for everyone.

People who are ACTUALLY dedicated to raising these dogs will still get them. Those who would end up as shitty owners won’t bother with the hassle.

Dogs get a better owner; owners get a better dog. Win-win all around.

I grew up with Rottweilers, which were the “pitbulls” of the 90s. I have had 2 Dobermans, one sleeping next to me right now, and they were the “pitbulls” of the 80s.

I fail to see how extermination is the answer when we have other methods available.

AquaTofana, to lemmyshitpost in Sophie's choice 70s edition

They think that they’re making a clever point. Of course larger dogs are inherently more dangerous than tiny dogs. No one is disputing that.

But to advocate for the complete wiping out of an entire breed versus mandatory training classes for owners is an insane answer.

Make “dangerous breeds” more difficult to get, sure. I agree with that. But I can NOT with the “wipe out all pitbull/rotties/dobermans/GSDs/etc”

AquaTofana, to lemmyshitpost in Headlines be like

Ooohhh have you about buying a band and wearing it on a chain around your neck instead? I know people who work with machinery do that to avoid their rings getting caught on the equipment.

I’ve always thought it was kind of sweet because now your ring hangs close to your heart everyday!

AquaTofana, to asklemmy in What has been the best thing that has happened to you so far?

I think it’s eye opening to see how much better everyone’s lives are when they have things like free Healthcare, subsidized school, and subsidized housing.

Not to mention many of our deployments occurring to locations where religious extremism has dominated society.

The military used to lean heavily red as a rule, but I think looking around and seeing the struggles of our civvie family and friends makes us go, “Fuck, wouldn’t it be awesome if EVERYONE could have this?”

AquaTofana, to asklemmy in What has been the best thing that has happened to you so far?

Absolutely meeting my husband. Joining the military absolutely laid the groundwork for breaking out of my conservative/republican ideology, but it was truly the work my husband put into me to pull me in Progressive thinking. I tell him all the time how he’s made me into a MUCH better human being.

AquaTofana, to asklemmy in So, who or what ruined Christmas this year?

Holy shit I’m so sorry. I’d give you all the hugs if I could.

AquaTofana, to asklemmy in What is an obscure piece of media or videogame that you think nobody else here has heard of?

Bruh I loooooved the Getbackers as a teen! It actually got me through losing a beloved family pet because it took my mind off everything.

Ugh, what a nostalgia trip right there.

AquaTofana, to asklemmy in What is an obscure piece of media or videogame that you think nobody else here has heard of?

Denver the Last Dinosaur!

I’ve never met anyone who knows what this is, even if I sing what I remember from the theme song.

My husband is slightly older than me and he had no idea wtf I was describing. It was a late 80s/early 90s cartoon with a green long necked Dinosaur with sunglasses that performed in a band.

I had to YouTube the theme song to make him believe it was real.

AquaTofana, to asklemmy in Honestly - How much will you sacrifice for a better world?

My husband and I don’t have kids, and we’ve severely cut back (not fully cut out yet), but really cut back on our meat consumption. I also avoid buying plastic whenever possible, and buy things like toilet paper/paper towels/regular linens made from recycled materials. Actually, if I have the option to buy anything made from recycled materials I’ll typically opt for that. That’s about it right now.

Only tangentially related to your question, but I’m also in a Master degree program for Public Administration so when I retire from the military I can roll right into law school. My goal is to become a Public Defender, which, I know, is fucking hard work with a lot of burn out for little pay, but I do have confidence that I can be an extra pair of hands for an overburdened industry. Everyone in the US is entitled to competent representation, and I’ve no interest in representing those who can afford their own lawyers.

And it burns me up that the rich can often get away with paying simple fines while the poor who can’t afford it go to jail and become essentially legalized slave labor. Fuck that. Anyone I can help save from losing their livelihood, home, family, car, etc, is a big fucking W in my book.
