Do. Not. Open. Port. 53. To. The. Internet.

Just Don’t.

This is a really bad idea.

If you’re trying to reach something on your network, VPN back in.

AtariDump,

What make/model?

It’s usually connected with a cellular modem.

You can put an SD card in the side and potentially use OSCAR to read the data with the ResMed Airsense 11.

My insurance, if in a poor cell area, would let me ship the data to them on an SD card. I had to if I didn’t want to pay full sticker price for the machine.

“Though I’m not the first king of controversy
I am the worst thing since Elvis Presley
To do Black music so selfishly
And use it to get myself wealthy (Hey!)
There’s a concept that works
Twenty million other white rappers emerge
But no matter how many fish in the sea
It’d be so empty without me” - Eminem

AtariDump,

You’re not fighting E. Honda, you’re fighting A Honda.

It’s all in the packet.

pooling media libraries - like distributed storage

I run a full media server, as well do a few friends. Now we had the idea to share our media libraries. In a first quick attempt we, mounted each other’s library folder via an smb share and imported those in jellyfin (all servers connected by VPN) Works quite well, but is kind of cumbersome the more people get in. I had the...

Does Plex work for you? Keep using it.

Jellyfin is nice but has a long way to go to replicate the features of Plex [like PlexAmp and Sonic Analysis] and features that are “Plex adjacent” [like Tautulli].

AtariDump,

Because Google is collecting data on EVERYTHING you do.

Self-hosted VPN that can be accessed via browser extension

Currently I set up Tailscale in my Synology NAS and I can access selfhosted services on my phone using the Android app. I want to use some services in my work PC too but I’m blocked from installing any software. So my question is, is there any solution that allows me to connect to selfhosted VPN via browser extension? (Just...

AtariDump, (edited )

I’d be very wary about trying to bypass any workplace restrictions (which includes using a non-company VPN etc. etc.) to access self-hosted services.

Remember, your work computer belongs to the business (unless you’re self employed).

Depending on your line of work this could range from a slap on the wrist onto immediate termination and fines.

AtariDump,

Most non-business Internet service in the IS has email ports blocked. They don’t open unless you switch to business class Internet and that’s $$$

AtariDump,

Ads growing up didn’t track you all over the internet.

AtariDump,

Still remember mine but no way to get back in.

Although I guess it does t matter at all anymore.

The boss makes a dollar,
I make a dime
That was a poem
From a simpler time.

Now my boss makes a grand
While I make a cent
And he’s got employees
That can’t make the rent

When the CEO makes a million
And we don’t make jack
That’s when we riot
To take it all back

Now Mr investor
If this seems extreme
I have to remind you
It sure beats the guillotine
