Yes, which is why it is a little odd for the article author to include it without context, because we all immediately think of one social mistake that has nothing to do with Linux.

Interestingly, UK foods destined for import in the US market use the US label and do include that information. Heinz Beans have 50mb calcium, 1.5mg Iron, and 370mg potassium per 130g serving, for example.

Mark Ewing used to wear a red Cornell lacrosse cap and when he would help in computer labs people would look for a the man in the red hat. The company was called Red Hat after Mark but their logo has been a person in a fedora for a long time.

Fedora is a community continuation of Red Hat Linux, which was discontinued in favor of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Back when I was starting out Fedora wasn’t a thing, you downloaded Red Hat Linux for free directly from the company or could buy it in a box.

I think it would usually be taken that whatever you’re talking about is probably not good or you are being forced to say it is good. So in that sense it could be rude.

Depends on tolerances, I’d probably see if a Chipolo or some other tracker would fit. Android ones are coming very soon.

What's a proper response to another dog attempting to mount your dog multiple times and the owner really not doing anything about it?

The owner kind of makes a weak attempt to seem like they’re trying, but if I weren’t there, they wouldn’t intervene at all. I’m asking because I want to make sure that I don’t over react next time.

fwupd can install from exe using the Dell script in github.com/fwupd/fwupd/tree/…/firmware_packager

However that model is supported natively too: fwupd.org/lvfs/…/com.dell.uefi3b49e316.firmware

IE: install gnome-firmware from flatpak or native package manager and it can do the whole thing, no need to download some exe.

It can outlast those too.

In many of these cases, however, it’s still possible to run a software tool freely available from the IBV or device vendor website that reflashes the firmware from the OS. To pass security checks, the tool installs the same cryptographically signed UEFI firmware already in use, with only the logo image, which doesn’t require a valid digital signature, changed.

What hobbies help you minimize or avoid navigating commercialism?

By commercialism, I’m aiming at a mix of spending a lot and sifting through bloated business models (e.g. this or that accessory/equipment, microtransactions, etc.). Feel like many can relate to this sort of commercial fatigue, and yet it creeps even into hobbies where one tries to unwind....

Many hobbies have some sort of cost associated, I would hope materials to do the hobby aren’t necessarily seen as negatives.

People have been doing HAM radio (and learning it), electronics tinkering, woodworking, fishing, etc for ages. There are upfront costs to get equipment, although used stuff abounds, ongoing costs are materials or components that one wants. For some things once you get it working you don’t necessarily have ongoing costs.

I see commercialism as exploitive, just purchasing things not so much.

Snap has the ability to do the base system in a much more modular way and could be really cool for an immutable system. Forcing them on desktop users with their transitional deb packages and making it heavily integrated with only one repository really screwed it up.

The Guardian has a good article about the tribalism going on right now (theguardian.com/…/us-support-divided-israel-pales…).

Any empathy is seen as a betrayal right now. It’s imo also one of the reasons things are so terrible to begin with.

Probably.

Most stalls are bolted together pieces of cheap metal with the most basic latch you can imagine. If an indicator adds 10 cents to the cost it’s not going to happen.

People who use those characters benefit from it. I imagine 點看 is more useful than xn–c1yn36f to a Chinese person. That’s also why Google displays them that way.

It would be nice if browsers warned when International Domain Names were in use, and provided the option to disable punycode when first encountered.

This is the kind of church that evangelicals love to hate, starting with women leadership and continuing with their use of “no bullshit” on their site.

If you or your family needed the money and they were offering, you might feel differently. Not sure what the point of the con would be, Texas isn’t trying to prosecute people who leave Texas yet.

Apple released a self repair storefront, soon afterwards comes legislation that perfectly mirrors the way they operate their program. AFAIK Apple is still free to keep people from using old parts off eBay and such.
