If this is a reference to the hbomberguy drama, the actual story isn’t the drama. It’s about the rampant stealing/corner cutting/blatant plagiarism that big YouTubers are engaging in and making bank off of. They are often even lifting from lesser-known channels to make their money. It’s not right.
If this isn’t about that, then yes generally it’s dumb lol
Yeah, I’m kind of seeing it as three different options. The first is that whatever they were traveling on that crashed had these things, the other’s like you said - it was sent with arrive too late, or #3 they’re dumb and didn’t notice that all the boxes floating around were exactly what they need. Very unclear
The joke is that the British have an incredibly problematic history literally centuries-old of taking things from other cultures and going “well, it’s ours the world’s now.“ Many of these communities have been asking them literally for decades to return them, but they simply won’t even to this day.
There was a time where they could maybe make the claim “this is the best way to preserve them,“ but for the vast majority of cases that time has long since passed and it was flimsy to begin with.
Honestly, the first and arguably most important step is recognizing how much of online content is specifically designed to get a reaction out of you, primarily in the form pissing you off.
What’s funny (I guess funny lol) is ever since I got my current job about 2.5 years ago, I no longer need to use social media. I am much, much happier without it. But I still get into little fights on forums and I really wish I didn’t. Every now and then I resolve to be less hostile, and things really do improve, but somehow I always get dragged back into old habits. But I’m a little hesitant to completely abandon things like Kbin because they are often my only window into events/what is going on/my hobbies. Idk what the answer is.
Setting restrictions on what 2FA/authenticators we can use. I imagine it’s only a matter of time before Google functionally makes it so you can only use theirs when using their services.
Edit: I assumed it was some of the messages I’ve seen elsewhere, my mistake. I don’t need everybody repeating the same comment. Please read the responses before telling me the exact same thing over and over again guys lol
Most people have extremely weird ideas of what’s considered piracy and what isn’t. Downloading a video game rom is piracy, but if you pay money to some Chinese retailer for an SD card containing the roms, that’s somehow not piracy. Exploiting the free trial on a streaming site by using prepaid visa cards is somehow not...

Literally never seen this argument, not even once. Guarantee you it’s a very small minority just assuaging some vague guilt (which is BS anyway because it’s still not your ROMs).
People do it primarily because it’s convenient. Downloading and testing hundreds if not thousand of roms - not to mention replacing all the bad ones - would take potentially days of work. Or you can spend like $10-$50 and be done with it.
I am under no illusion that 99% of people who pirate, movies, music, games, etc. are doing it for purely selfish reasons and a lot of sites exist to enable it. But the simple fact of the matter is court battles over piracy have been one of the strongest bulwarks for consumer protection/ownership and protecting an open internet over the last 20 years. So yeah, a lot of folks are going to make some drivel up about how they’re preserving history or whatever as they don’t even adhere to basic archive standards and their entire collection is coincidentally only stuff they like lol, but hey, I still like seeing the wins!
It is shocking how many people don’t know how to use a VPN when proton is like $5 and takes all of 10 seconds to set up.
It seems I pissed a few people off with my comment, but hey, if you feel I’m talking about you maybe you should think about it folks!
Let me also be clear that I am not against pirating. I am against covering it with window dressing and pretending we aren’t all doing what we know we’re doing.
You’re being far more irritating than any of them. You’re seriously picking a fight over “pissed off a few people”? Reevaluate how you spend your time man. I’m done personally.
About four years ago, I sat down and organized all of my cables, then tied all the matching cables together with bongo ties/Velcro straps. A lot of it of course has become scattered again, but I am still reaping the benefits from having them all generally grouped together. It is worth the hour or two folks!
Yesterday there was a controversial movie torrent that was getting 1000s of downloads and was on the “popular this week” page, and today it’s just gone. I went to the uploader’s account page and it’s not there either. Just like it never existed....

It's funny how google pretends the music on YouTube isn't straight up piracy and everyone just goes along with it
