CADmonkey,

Speaking as an American - an electric kettle. Just a thing that plugs into the wall and boils water.

I use it for tea, of course, but I also use it any time I need boiling water for something, because it’s faster than a kettle sitting on the stove and it doesn’t use gas.

CADmonkey,

Some sort of strike. Either a general labor strike, or a debt strike. A general strike of laborers will be hard to organize, and there will always be scabs.

But a debt strike ia easier. Although I should probably say “Bill strike”. It goes like this: don’t pay four or five figure medical bills. Just put them in the shredder. If a significant portion of the population does this, it will force change. Just like the courts getting backed up because there were too many evictions, they will get backed up by all the wage garnishment cases that I’m sure someone is typing a reply about. If nobody pays, there isn’t much of a way to enforce it.

CADmonkey,

Books, video games, writing, drawing. All the stuff I did before reddit, facebook, imgur, etc.

CADmonkey,

I have one of the new Nightsters, it’s a harley-davidson that isn’t a vibrating air cooled dinosaur. It’s smooth, fast, and quiet. It handles great. It gets decent gas mileage.

If it’s raining or cold, I drive an old Samurai. It’s not a vehicle for those on the spectrum like myself who have trouble talking to people, because it sometimes draws a crowd.

CADmonkey,

I thought you were supposed to drop the air biscuit before stepping off a crowded elevator?

CADmonkey,

The car is in their driveway, where is the bus?

If we want piblic transport, and I certainly do, we need better aguments than this one.

CADmonkey,

Just in 2023 my wife has learned to can food, grow food, raise chickens, heal chickens, make salsa, make pickles, (she made pickles with cucumbers she grew, using onions and dill that she also grew) and every week it seems like she has something new she is going to try. She has lost over 50 pounds since we’ve started this whole journey in making food at home and we can’t keep our hands off each other.

She’s also a caring soul who is loved by everyone she meets, and she makes me feel like the luckiest person alive. Every current positive aspect of my life is directly because of her. And as a bonus, she looks incredible in thigh-high socks and does things with me in the bedroom that I suspect many don’t get to experience.

CADmonkey,

My wife hated Syril’s mom. Mostly, its because Syril’s mom acts like her mom, only less hostile.

CADmonkey,

Ford and GM both sell electric “crate motors” for classic cars to switch them over to electric.

CADmonkey,

I worked night shift in a metal fabrication shop about 11 years ago.

Two bastions of humanity figured out that they could light an oxyfuel torch and adjust it to a neutral flame, snuff the flame out of a glove or something, and then use the torch to fill a plastic sandwich bag with a perfect mixture of oxygen and acetylene. They would then place this bag somewhere and light it on fire, which made a lot of noise. They had great fun until they tried it with a small office-sized trash bag. The word of the day is brisance. It made a tremendous bang which cracked some glass in the shop, but of course our two heroes were caught in the blast amd burned, because a sandwich bag made a loud pop, but a trash bag was more of a bomb. They lit the trash bag like they did the little bags, by holding a lighter to the plastic.

CADmonkey,

Yeah that is attention no business wants.

CADmonkey,

I was invited to a rural party for new years, I’m pretty sure it was 2003-2004. I drank entirely too much, and saw some friends crushing beer cans, and was inspired. I found an old 55-gallon steel drum, put a bunch of water in it, and rolled it into the bonfire. Once steam was shooting out, I put the bungs back on it and rolled it into the pond. After a few minutes, there was a metallic “bang” and the drum was folded in on itself.

The guy who invited me to the party told everyone for years that I used my head to crush a steel drum.

CADmonkey,

But if you’ve got a big dog and you don’t own your own place then… You made some bad choices…

I had a large-ish (27kg) dog when I was looking for a place to rent in 2019, after my family was forced out of our home by a flood.

According to you, I should have made a better choice and stopped the flood somehow.

CADmonkey,

You said none of that in your comment, but go off i guess.

CADmonkey,

I started playing video games on a Coleco/ADAM computer. You’re damned right the PS1 had mind-boggling graphics.

CADmonkey,

I remember AOL on 3.5 floppies. You could put tape over a specific hole and re-use the disk.

CADmonkey,

I remember the AOL disks not having the sliding tab, either it had been pried out or it was just a disk that didn’t have it.

CADmonkey,

I wondered if it might be because of you lot. Pineapple is typically paired with canadian bacon (ham) on pizza.

CADmonkey,

This is weirdly specific, but I’ve sadly been in more than one internet “discussion” where a CNC laser cutter is shown in a video, and some knob end pops up in the comments and says “ThAt’S a PlAsMa CuTtEr NoT a LaSer sToOpId”.

For about ten years I set up, operated, programmed, maintained, and repaired both plate and tube lasers made by NTC, Mitsubishi, Amada, Trumpf, Han Kwang, Mazak, and BLM. I know enough about industrial lasers to make them boring. I can tell if a shop has a laser just by driving by. A plasma cutter works different, sounds different, and cuts different than a laser, and even someone who knows nothing about either process can see there is a difference.

CADmonkey,

I don’t want to go to reddit, but let me try something:

“I don’t want to use linux, windows 11 is just fine”

CADmonkey,

Fun fact, this is part of the reason so many cars are silver, white, or black now. A lot of base models of cars are only available in those three colors, along with maybe red. To get a different color, you have to get an upgraded package… and there’s your $1k price jump.

CADmonkey,

This is also true.

My wife and I have accidentally ended up with a purple car and a green truck, both stick out in a sea of silver bubbles.

CADmonkey,

Ford and Mitsubishi actually
