Some still do. I just started working at Walmart, and they give you a Samsung phone to do your job. You use the camera for scanning tags, shelving, check item status, and a bunch of other shit. It’s a modern phone, with USB c, fingerprint sensor in the power button, android 13, stupid hole-punch camera, etc. And when I pulled off the otterbox case they gave me with it, I found that the back pulls off and the battery pops out, like all of my phones used to do back in the day. I assume that’s so they can more easily keep these phones in use, as they can pull out a failing battery and pop a new one in without having to send the phone sent off for servicing.
I recommend the modified version of WSA, which gives you a full Android install with Google services, the play store, etc. All of the apps that I use on my phone and don’t have a Windows version, now fully work on my Windows laptop and get to look and work as if they are native desktop apps. Also good for when there technically is a desktop version of an app, but they want you to pay extra/again for it. Looking at you Pocketcasts, which I bought the premium version of, and not a month later they did away with premium version of the app and instead created a yearly subscription to lock those same features behind, gave me nothing for it, and then proceeded to also try to charge me even more to use the desktop app instead.
Thanks to this setup, I get to have “desktop” versions of Gmail, proton, pocketcasts, Sync for Lemmy (and sync for reddit before that), and a bunch of other apps and tools that I either can’t get outside of Android, or the non-android versions suck.
What I’m eating will determine which two of those I am combining together. Potentially all three, in some cases. But there are also times when all the of those are better left out, in favor of barbecue sauce.
Chinese food. The common fast food type here in the US. Yeah, I can spend a bunch of time, work, and money to make orange chicken, boneless spare ribs, crab rangoon, teriyaki, coconut shrimp, and pork fried rice. Or, I can go 5 minutes up the street, and pay my favorite restaurant $20 for a big plate with all of that, with absolutely no work on my part, and it all tastes way better.
There was a local band where I am 20+ years ago called Naucet. With songs such as “This is Not a Convenient Time to be Stabbed”. I have absolutely no idea what happened to the band, where they went, what they did. I can find no reference to them anywhere online whatsoever. I have a musician friend who was friends with them(maybe just one of them, I forget at this point) and has copies of their music on an old hard drive somewhere in a closet. Been a number of years since I’ve seen/heard from said friend, so I can only assume whether or not he still has that old hard drive. If he does, then for all I know, that might be the only place in existence that you can find that music.
I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds
They come and go. They’re random clutter. We only need a few big instances that hosts a majority of the communities and that’s it. Why do we need so many smaller ones?
I am trying to finally move from entirely depending on Google Photos to a proper backup strategy. I have my photos and videos downloaded from Google which are a mess right now but as long they’re with me I am fine, at least for now....
I am using immich as a replacement for Google photos, which syncs my phones and tablets. I just wish it had any kind of photo editing.
I then also have Photoprism, which I use for my actual photography stuff. When I pull raws and videos from my DSLR, I dump them into a share on my NAS, mapped to a drive in Windows. They then get automatically imported into and managed by Photoprism.
Still trying to work out the best way to edit/work with the raws in Lightroom, while keeping them in Photoprism, and also up-to-date.
I also use Duplicati to do nightly encrypted backups to Google drive.
None. I’m not rich, I don’t have the luxury of straight-out boycotting any particular company. If I could, both Amazon and Walmart would be top of the list. And I’m sure many others.
Hell, I’ve been wanting to finally delete my Facebook account for years now, but Facebook marketplace is apparently the ONLY place I’m ever going to be able to sell anything. It’s the only reason I still have the account. I have long since delete all posts, photos, and literally any other data that they would let me delete, aside from marketplace posts and associated messenger conversations. Used to buy and sell constantly on Craigslist for many years, now I haven’t been able to successfully sell a single item in at least the last 2-3 years. Letgo was a decent one for a while, until the app got bought by, and then shut down by, OfferUp. And the OfferUp people are basically con artists (use shady methods of boosting the number of “active” listings, in order to artificially inflate the value of their company). It has been nearly impossible to sell, or even BUY anything on OfferUp, after several years of trying to make user of the app.
Before I forget here’s the server flow for my 64tb sever. Supports Anime and all the works, never could get manga working with torrent/usenet well enough on ubuntu though....
I haven’t touched or looked at anything manga-related in a while, but when I was looking at manga hosting solutions, I settled on Mango. If I remember correctly, I chose it specifically because it organizes based on the file/folder structure, including nested folders. So I can manually name and organize the files(my preference, as I never like the way any automated system does it), drop said files into the library folder, run a scan in Mango, and I’m good. Also has 3rd party plugins for downloads(a lot of which are hentai-related though, if I recall).

If robbing a bank got you 10 million dollars, and the legal penalty for robbing a bank was a few thousand dollars, why would you choose to refrain from robbing the bank?
This is a $1 dollar increase from what I was paying. But soon subscribers will be $15/month, then $20/month. I wonder how much of deezer’s income actually goes to the artists.
Privacy.com card, limit $1. Deezer premium free trial with fake email, immediately lock and delete privacy card. Login to Deezer in the deemix-gui app. Proceed to download all the music you could possibly want, in lossless format, until the trial runs out. Proceed to create a new privacy card and a new Deezer premium trial with a new fake email. Problem solved.
1-gallon jugs of Arizona iced tea. I drink a ton of the sugar-free Arnold Palmer, and the jugs, as well as their screw on caps, are just high quality. They are thick, high quality plastic, and the cap is sturdy with a good seal. I use them for keeping pre-treated water for topping up my fish tank, isopropyl alcohol for the wash station of my resin 3d printer, and other stuff like that. We also use them for cat food/litter storage and dispensing. I have also used them to store coins, when I had a job that involved cash tips that were mostly coins. I’m sure there are a ton of other uses for such a container. The jug is free if you’re going to spend the $3 on the iced tea anyway. Buying a similar quality jug/container at Walmart costs twice as much, or more, and doesn’t come with anything to drink inside.
Yep, sure was. I finally decided to switch to freetube last week. No more issues with YouTube. I just wish they had playlists. And a proper equivalent/replacement for the watch later list.
I haven’t seen a specific way to explicitly disable transcoding, like I did on Plex. If I try to play a video in the browser, it obviously needs to transcode my hevc videos, and the CPU in my NAS gets demolished(though it does technically allow the video to play). But as long as I use a player that is capable of direct-play (so the desktop app, or the Android app), it will direct-play automatically, without transcoding. Hasn’t been a problem so far. I plan to upgrade my NAS at some point, and the new build will be more than capable of transcoding.
Nothing much that I can think of. Everything works just about as well as before. If I need/want to change a cover or other image manually, the jellyfin system is kind of trash, where the Plex system works really well. But that’s a fairly minor complaint, to be fair. My only other issue is the way the unwatched episode badge works. Plex had just changed theirs on me and made it worse. And jellyfin is even more useless than that. But those are the only things I can even think to complain about.
Made the switch from Plex to jellyfin last week. Runs so much smoother, far fewer issues, my NAS isn’t lighting itself on fire, and I don’t have unwanted features being shoved down my throat every time I open the client app. A few small UI things I don’t like, but Plex had just fucked up the exact same UI element on me anyway.
I think it’s finally time I get around to setting up a second sonarr instance to customize for anime.
One time, I had this wild popup that said there were system updates available. Madman that I am, I clicked the update button. Goodbye working system. Decided it was time to switch back to Windows 11 for a while.

This is your daily reminder to steal anything you can from large corporations at every possible opportunity. Got five identical items? Whoops, you only seem to have scanned four of them. Are four of them the brand name, and one of them the cheaper store brand? Shit, it seems you scanned the store brand one five four times. They just looked so similar, after all. How confusing!

I’m not a natural organizer, but I’m starting to appreciate things that help me organize as I get older....
