If I didn’t have ethics, I could con so many religious people…

Yeah, but you’re not really conning the higher-ups, you’re conning the grannies who are going to church and giving away their social security money. And they really don’t deserve to be conned even if it would be easy to con them.

I don’t think a ‘less harmful’ con makes the con any more ethical. And I don’t want to take poor people’s money. A lot of people giving to televangelists are people living on social security and the like.

I just want to tell you both good luck. We’re all counting on you.

Ain’t no thang.

I got to spend a couple of days at a sci-fi convention at a table next to Richard Hatch of the 1970s Battlestar Galactica fame. He was a really cool guy and we spent all day joking around. Every so often, someone would come by and say, “hey! You’re uh… uh…” and I would say, “he’s Dirk Benedict.” (That was his BSG co-star). Once I told a lady that she better not call him Dirk Benedict because it makes him really mad.

If I had a photo of Dirk Benedict, I would have asked him to sign it.

Sadly, Richard Hatch is no longer with us. I really enjoyed hanging out with him. He was way into tabletop gaming and even would leave the table sometimes to host a session. I’m not a huge TTGer anymore, but I wish I could have had Richard Hatch as a GM.

I’ve had a lot of cool experiences meeting people in the sci-fi/fantasy world by working tables at sci-fi cons due to two different reasons about ten years apart, but that era of my life is over. I can only go as a regular conventioneer now. I take my daughter to them on occasion if one is nearby because she likes to look at all the cosplay.

I also got to see Gwar and The Misfits do a free double-act concert late at night at DragonCon in the 90s, which topped most of the notable people I met, even though my experience with pretty much all of them was good.

Oh that’s right! I forgot he was in the reboot!

They tried doing an audiobook version, but it kept making phones melt.

You realise that, although the Vogon poetry is indeed astoundingly bad, worse things happen at sea, and in fact, at school. With an effort for which Hercules himself would have patted you on the back, you grit your teeth and enjoy the stuff.

My father died a few months before the 2016 election, but he was a grandpa in his 80s and he practically died a socialist. He would have been one of the loudest anti-Trump voices you had ever heard had he been aware enough through his dementia to be politically active. I was able to tell him that a social democrat was running for president before the dementia got too far gone and I think he was able to take it in. I’m glad he didn’t get to find out that Bernie lost.

Firefox doesn’t fucking work with my daughter’s online school. This is a national school that multiple states are adopting as a state online school (meaning it is a public school and we don’t have to pay tuition) and we have to use Chrome because I can’t get it to work in Firefox and I hate Edge. Even worse, a bunch of materials from the school either don’t mention which browser to use or specifically say you can use either Firefox or Chrome. I spent like half an hour trying to figure out why it wasn’t working. I did updates, resets, anything I could think of, until my wife texted me and said maybe it has to be in Chrome. And yep, that worked.

Of course, the school is run by Pearson, and they’re evil, so they probably have a deal with Google anyway.

I’ll look into it eventually, but we had to do this at the last minute because we had to get school started and she gets annoyed when I try to do anything on the notebook while she’s around.

I don’t know anything about that. Can you point me to a guide?

Thanks so much! I will check it out.

This is the second time you have accused me of projecting. Where is your evidence that I am projecting anything onto anyone?

Okay, fair enough.
