You are not as funny as you think you are.

Furbag, to comicstrips in Someone talk to me about Go (the board game). I'm in the process of learning it right now.

I wanted to learn how to play after watching a few dozen episodes of Hikaru no Go, but it’s such an obtuse game. Chess I can understand, but Go has a level of strategy that my mind just can’t grasp.

Furbag, to asklemmy in Why in the year 2024 and with all the knowledge humans have now do people still believe in religion?

Despite our advancements, there are still a multitude of questions that science simply doesn’t have a sufficient answer for, and possibly never will. Not knowing the answers to these profound and existential questions can cause anxiety and stress in some individuals, but if they fill that knowledge gap with religion, spirituality, mysticism, or superstition, it suddenly becomes a lot less painful on their psyche. In short, some people need religion because they are unable to cope without it.

Our species simply hasn’t had enough time to be subjected to the kinds of selection pressures that would filter out such individuals. The opposite is probably happening, considering the strong correlation between people who have multiple children and people who identify as belonging to a certain religious sect or group. Perhaps it will always be a flaw of the human race, to seek out knowledge that we can’t understand and ascribe meaning to it so that we might make ourselves feel more important than we truly are in a vast cold universe.

I’m so not used to this not being accompanied by Bugs Bunny in a tuxedo with a flintlock pistol.

Piggybacking on this piggybacked nitpick with yet another nitpick… Why is Zangief considered a villain in Wreck-It Ralph? Except for maybe one instance in the Street Fighter series, he is always on the side fighting against the evildoers. At least that’s the case for every Street Fighter game with a story more complex than “The World Warrior”. And in that one exception where he did fight for the bad guys, he was being tricked into doing so if I recall.

Is it… Is it because his country of origin is the USSR? 🤔

Furbag, to fuck_cars in Electric cars: The equivalent of switching from binge drinking whiskey to binge drinking wine.

I don’t doubt that that’s the case, but I’m just pointing out (humorously) the absurdity of someone who is purportedly a principled individual who cares about things like climate change, civil/human rights, equality, bodily autonomy and most importantly democracy changing to the side that is openly against all of those things because people can be harsh and nasty on the internet sometimes.

Like, if someone really was so flimsy with their morals that they could bend so easily, did they ever really care in the first place? Or were they just looking for an excuse to blame the other side for their fecklessness?

Furbag, to asklemmy in What is your unpopular flim opinion

This is basically exactly what I say any time someone asks me this question. I just don’t get the love for Tarantino. I feel like the previews for his work always disguise how uncomfortable the film is actually going to be to watch when I get there.

Furbag, to movies in [DISCUSSION] [SPOILERS] - FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S - Josh Hutcherson, Mary Stuart Masterson, Lucas Grant

So, I went into this film expecting a total B-movie cash grab that might have been too late in the works to be relevant. I can say that I was pleasantly surprised that they did put some actual effort into the production, which was great to see.

I didn’t dislike the film, but I feel like there was more of a story they were trying to tell but it was getting pulled in a lot of directions all at one. The horror scenes with the animatronics really fought for screen time that was pretty heavy already with dialogue and exposition. I could see the potential for a really good film buried deep within though. I really wanted them to tease out more information about Garrett’s kidnapper and possibly delve deeper into the idea that Mike was a substance abuser losing his grip on reality. He spent his waking hours suspecting random strangers of being child abductors and his resting hours in a pill-induced stupor obsessing over the same dream again and again. Would have been neat to explore that in relation to the events at Freddy’s.

I saw Vanessa the cop as both a necessary supporting character to do exposition dumps, but also a pointless side character who never seemed to explain or justify the reason why she was in the scene, and Mike never questioned why she was there either. I actually thought that the plot twist at the end was going to be that Vanessa was the kidnapper and Mike couldn’t see her for what she was despite his hypervigilance because he was blinded by his preconceived notions that Mike must have been kidnapped by a man, despite the kidnapper never explicitly being shown in the dream.

The acting at times wasn’t spectacular, but passable. Maybe it was intentional that some people seemed to be “playing a role” given the reveal at the end? Josh Hutcherson and Piper Rubio did great in their roles, but everyone else came across as either phoning it in or just generally being too corny for the camera.

Overall, it was worth the watch, but don’t expect it to scare your pants off. It’s a pretty tame movie that fans of the game will definitely enjoy.

People say that all the time, but I disagree. They’re link aggregators with a comments section.
