I prefer uBlock Origin on hard mode instead, personally. Of course it probably isn’t as through.

I too have thought about the family urn. Throw in the pet ashes too!

Something called “Shelter”, the raid pictures in the article definitely don’t make it look like the largest.

On Graphene with Sandboxed Google Play (even on Android 14), this was where the setting was.

All of the new Star Wars movies are so boring and played out. They should just stop making them, but they won’t because they have to extract every single dollar from their IP.

It’s definitely new, look at how close the total users and active users are. Seems pretty shady.

Yep, my partner and I have way too many medical issues so we don’t feel bad at all for not bringing kids into this already fucked up world.

Can anyone recommend a wireless doorbell that works with home assistant?

I currently have a ring doorbell that I pay a yearly fee for but I want to get away from Amazon and a subscription fee. I would prefer if it used the Wi-Fi and it was able to connect with my house doorbell. Edit: I’d also like to add that I would like it to have the ability to stream and record video.

Reolink has a wifi video doorbell that works great, it has an integration with Home Assistant but also with Frigate. I use Frigate personally, since it’s better at person detection and I can record directly to my server. If you don’t use Frigate, you can record to an SD card that you slot into the back of the doorbell.

Mayo+ketchup (fry sauce) for fries. Ketchup+mustard for hot dogs. All three for burgers.

What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

I’m still trying to de-Google my life, little by little. I don’t trust Bing for similar reasons. DDG is feeling shady of late. What’s the search engine you all recommend that I can inject into my daily life? Is there perhaps a search engine that is focused on code, or have we just all moved on to AI for searching?...

This is the only true Google replacement I’ve found.

For drives, Shuckstop has a table of current shuckable drive prices. Shucking is usually the cheapest way to get new drives, you just have to get them out of their external case (or in your case, leave them in and plug them into your pi, ideally with some sort of fan). There’s also ServerPartDeals for refurbished enterprise drives.

I wasn’t talking about whether or not to trust FOSS, I was talking about Zello (since it’s closed source, which I originally mentioned). There might not be a FOSS alternative, I don’t know since I have never needed a walkie talkie app. That’s why I didn’t mention one and only answered the first part of your question. You’re right that it probably can’t be fully trusted (because it’s closed source).

GlitzyArmrest,
@GlitzyArmrest@lemmy.world avatar

The reason FOSS will always be better is because claims like that can actually be validated and audited. Any company can claim their stuff is E2E encrypted, but you’ll never know if that’s true for closed source software. Even if they do actually do E2E encryption, you’ll likely not know if they’re doing it properly and with strong encryption algorithms.

There’s no way to “clean” them. Trust, I understand the desire, but I’m not sure using pirated plugins on production e-commerce sites is the best idea. If your website gets malware from it, your customer data is at risk along with the business itself.

Some plugins have simple variables to check if you purchased, and you might be able to change it in the plugin editor and get the full features. This won’t work for plugins that phone home.

What's the deal with the private trackers?

I’ve read on reddit I think that if you are torrenting using a private tracker you’re gonna be fine even without VPN. The question is: isn’t the tracker is just a server that leads my torrent client to the pieces of the file on the seeders? And the connection between me and the seeders is p2p, isn’t that type of...

GlitzyArmrest,
@GlitzyArmrest@lemmy.world avatar

Unless you have a seedbox, I’d still use a VPN on private trackers. You don’t want to expose your actual home IP address - anyone can see it when you’re torrenting (in the peers tab). You are correct that most companies that DMCA aren’t following private trackers and therefore it’s unlikely that you’d get a “love letter” but again I’d use a VPN for your home ISP.

As for getting into private trackers, there’s an OpenSignups community here. Otherwise, you have to usually know someone with invites to get in.

Private is so much better, availability and speed wise. For most, as long as you build ratio with freeleech torrents, you’re fine.

I’m usually all for setting up things myself, but unRAID is just too good. Not to mention their support forums have saved me more than once.

Great, so now I need to start hoarding bones along with all of my data?

I use Aliucord which by default removes many of the associated Discord trackers.

It should be noted that all 3rd party apps are against Discord TOS. No one has ever been banned for these clients as far as I know, but it is possible that they could start banning in the future.

Heat pumps are fantastic, some of the most efficient machines humans have made! Recently upgraded from an old 1950’s oil furnace to a heat pump w/ electric backup and I’ve saved so much money.
