I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds
In theory I agree, but in practice? The amount of people having a hard time following the timelines of inception show that you really can’t make a more complex execution, the average viewer simply won’t get it. You have to simplify it to make it more digestible.
For comparison Dark is an exceptionally well done series that doesn’t hold back with the complexity. How many people can say they “got” Dark when watching it the first time around? I’m an attentive viewer and even I had wrap my head around it to really understand what had happened. My wife, who is not an attentive viewer, pretty much gave up after S2 because she simply lost the plot. Too many bits of information was thrown in her way and she couldn’t keep track of what was happening.
Personally, I give Nolan props for even trying to execute interesting ideas because the average high profile movie is pretty barren of interesting ideas. Would I like to see more interesting ideas with complex executions? Absolutely. Do I think it can be done? Considering who the target audience is, not really.
Red pill is too vague. Do you go back in time to when you were 6? If so then red pill is good because you could just achieve all you’ve already achieved faster and you have more time for other stuff. Do you just turn into a 6 year old? No thanks, not about to restart on hard mode.
Also is that time really that valuable if you’re going to spend a significant part of it threading the same ground?
That why I’d take the blue pill, clearer outcome and with 10 mil I could easily improve the quality of my time. For instance by completely ditching work I have much more time to see my children grow up.
I don’t feel like it’s awkward or uncomfortable, but I do hate it when it’s completely unnecessary. I don’t even care if the sex is unrealistic as long as it’s necessary for the plot. Just Chekhov’s gun that shit.
Absolutely. All you have to ask is why they need to own a truck and they instantly get overly defensive. I’m not saying there aren’t cases where you need to own truck but the vast majority of cases people bring up don’t even require a truck much less owning one.
You don’t think that for the copyright laws to change we also need to change how we view it? How could you be properly critical of the copyright law if you refuse to make the distinction necessary for a certain type of criticism?
I get the “that’s not how the world is” argument, but you can’t talk about how the world could/should be by using only the word that describe the current state of the world. If you want to be critical of the existing system you need to develop a vocabulary that allows for such criticism.
For instance if you don’t make the distinction between the creator and copyright holder you can’t make criticism such as “you shouldn’t be able to copyright works that you haven’t created”. You can’t tell the difference between copyright owned by the creator and copyright owned by copyright owner because those two people are indistinguishable, so the entire criticism becomes nonsense.
You’ve clearly already checked out considering I’m not even the person who insulted you. Here’s an idea, maybe don’t partake in conversations you’re not going to bother to even pay attention. I guarantee you’ll automatically come across as less of an asshole.
Not just that. People wonder why online games are so toxic, overly competitive and filled with cheaters. Matchmaking is the reason.
You don’t have to be nice because chances are you’re never going to play with those people again. All other matchmade players are just glorified bots, they’re completely dehumanized. That means shitheads can act like shitheads without any repercussions. Compare that to community servers where the admin will ban you if you’re an asshole. You even end up making friends because the same people will visit the same server.
And what’s your purpose for playing when everyone you’re playing with are glorified bots? Well your focus turns on you which in turn means your main metric of fun becomes your own skill. Since you can directly measure your own skill you look a things like wins/losses and kdr. You start to focus on things that correlate to competitive play and if the matchmaking is skill-based the game actually pushes you into sweats as the goal is to get you to a statistical 50% winrate. Now compare that to community servers where you’re not pushed into sweats, the overall skill of players stays largely the same and because you’ll be playing with people you know there no need to focus on being the best you can be, you can just mess around with others.
And of course cheating is a huge issue, but again it’s one of those things where having an admin to vet sus players make a huge difference. The admin isn’t infallible but cheating is less of an issue if you’re playing with people you know.
But people would much rather give it all up and deal with toxicity, sweats and cheating because the server admin could be a badmin. But maybe I’m just old and am remembering the good old days when you could make friends playing on the same server.
Proton or Valve won’t magically make anti-cheat working on Linux. I do most of my gaming now on Linux, but for specific games I still boot into Windows.
As someone who recently did a switch to get used to Linux, if you’re planning on gaming then Nobara is supposedly the beginner friendly gaming distro. I switched to Nobara and my only issue was screen flickering that I fixed by switching from Wayland to X11 (that was as simple a choosing the other option on the login screen). Everything else just works and KDE looks similar to the windows layout so it doesn’t feel too unintuitive either.
My two gripes that I can’t do anything about are the lack of HDR support (supposedly that’s finally in the works) and no Linux support for some online games (The Finals in my case, but maybe if Linux numbers go up they’ll finally flip the switch), neither could be solved by having a different distro.
If you just want to game and want it up and running without tinkering too much I recommend Nobara.

I think the algorithm is so distorted by right-wing engagement that it will end up recommend right-wing content, even if you actively try to avoid it. I watch youtube shorts and I always skip if it’s Shapiro, Peterson, Tate or Pierce Morgan. I also skip the moment I feel like the shorts might be right-wing. Scroll enough and eventually the algorithm will go “How about some Shapiro, Peterson, Tate or Morgan?” Give it enough time and it will always try to feed you right-wing content.

It’s a relatively new (became applicable in 2022) thing called price indication directive. The TLDR is what the other guy said, the only addition is that member states can set different rules for certain goods.
It’s very expensive to add the actual image picture into the blockchain, so most NFTs actually contain a hyperlink and the NFT owner “owns” (because to my knowledge there’s no legal base to assert ownership) only that hyperlink within their token, not the image itself.
Pretty much any kind of data related to the image is useless for verifying the actual image. For instance saving the exact same image with a different compression algorithm will make a new hash.
There are many stories on how Fahrenheit came up with the scale, the body temperature one is just one of many. It’s no more true than the one where he took the Romero scale as baseline and multiplied it by 4 to get rid of the factorial.
I think your instant assumption about it being done for evil says more about the country you live than it does about Finland, because homelessness doesn’t seem to be a big issue in Finland. That’s ~5k homeless people in a country with ~5 million people, that’s ~0.1% of the population being homeless.
There’s a simple litmus test. Musk would never joke about himself in a self-deprecating way, in any capacity. He has such a fragile ego it would break if someone farted in his general direction.
To make the ex metaphor. Talking shit about your ex is not productive but talking about what was wrong or didn’t work can be very insightful. Entirely blocking your ex out of your mind is a pretty easy way to make the same mistakes again.
I can see why people think it’s annoying but I think this is also a good thing. Talking about this helps people understand what they want to see in their communities or instances.
I love it, because it’s becoming the de facto example of how you don’t need to a good businessman or a smart person or any other excuse people bring up to justify billionaires. I don’t need to spend time explaining how billionaires are not doing some magic to make billions, I can just point at Musk and say he is missing all the qualities the billionaires are supposed to have. In the end Musk is just a sadder real life version of this guy. Except there wouldn’t be any police for him.
