Sometimes i get pretty angry at those invisible entities that eat my food without me seeing it, i just cooked it and just tried to eat, and somebody stole it from me 🤭
Use encryption, using vpns for such a trivial task is a “really bad idea”
There are many cases when somebody wants to have their dns public, maybe they want to share with their friends, family, community, audience (not everyone is a solo server user)
Also, it’s good to use your dns even before connecting to the vpn. Just use encryption, it’s safe and nice
Keeping 53 opened is not that bad, the only thing you will notice is an increased load on your server if somebody tried to ddos somebody’s server using your dns
P.S. Or as somebody mentioned below, use rate limiting. It’s described pretty well in some other comments. Not just “spooky internet port”
I’ve been aware of pi-hole for a while now, but never bothered with it because I do most web browsing on a laptop where browser extensions like uBlock origin are good enough. My last comment wasn’t really addressed personally to you, sorry i sounded like that
Having root is almost never a security benefit, it allows you to close one hole, but opens up 10 new more
It means you have your bootloader unlocked, you have secure boot disabled which allows for persistent malware. Just having root by itself opens up many more remote, zero click, or just very dangerous exploits
F-droid is not secure, some of the issues had been resolved, but it’s still not recommended for best practices
Of course, everything depends on the thread model
I personally really like fdroid and izzy, and other custom repos. And root is a cool thing, although i don’t have it on my daily driver(but have on my test phone)
It’s good i left bill gayts’ sinking boat recently Feeling really great running my nixos flake on my surface go (this was the last device, everything else migrated a long time ago)
