What non-SMS non-Apple app can I use to "text" my younger kid on their iPad

Hi! My less-than-10-year-old has their own iPad (registered under my apple id) and wants to be able to “text” with the rest of the family. Most of us are not Apple people though: Android phones, using some combo of SMS, Discord, and Signal. The little one doesn’t have a phone, so I think that prevents us from signing them...

Step 1 - create a child account for them. Do not share an AppleId with them.

Second - this may feel a bit old fashioned - but have a look at downloading Skype

Go and have a chat with them. Perhaps as a half joke buy them a really nice pair of slippers for Christmas.

As an aside, I did once share an upstairs flat with a woman who had a prosthetic leg. We had wooden floors. The people downstairs were not amused, though she tried to move around as quietly as possible

If Ukraine had initially launched an attack on Russia and killed 1,200 mainlycivilians, taken 200+ hostages and thrown in a bit of organised gang rape, I doubt Ukraine would be receiving its current level of support, and there may even have been some support for retaliatory action by Russia.

That’s not to say that Israel’s current appalling treatment of Palestinian civilians is justified

I think enabling the functionality would require too much back-office and vendor integration to make it a feasible lie. Too many people would know about it - and the risks from lying and saying 'not enabled' are too great.

If they had been enabled - and found out - the recommended lie would be "we are currently undertaking a small-scale trial of the technology to assess it's effectveness. We will be report on the results early next year as part of a wider public consultation into it's wider deployment". (Why yes, I have worked in public sector comms).

I'm in London. I cycle to work and use the tube network and bus network whenever I can. I also have a private car which I use for trips where public transport or my bike is impractical. It's a 2016 model, I expect that it may need replacing in 5 years time. If I took the cartoon at face value, I might think it makes no difference from a climate chang perspective whether I choose petrol or electric - and this is clearly wrong.

Buying a brand new electric car to replace a relatively new ICE is not a great solution.
