It really doesn’t bother me tbh. The fediverse isn’t for everyone and I’d rather people just use whatever platform they prefer than endlessly complaining on Lemmy when it’s clearly simply not for them. And that’s okay, use whatever platform suits you.

I’ve noticed that Lemmy has been shedding a lot of the Reddit style toxicity that was brought here from the influx. Presumably that has something to do with the terminally on Reddit people leaving.

Exactly. Lemmy is a social media platform, not an archival service. People come here to talk to people, not bots.

You’re free to speak. Other people are free to hate you for what you say. That’s how it works.

And god forbid you point out the fact that this attitude among consumers is exactly the reason these companies are brazen enough to pull this shit. People don’t want to hear how their attitudes around instant gratification and focus on convenience over absolutely all else just might have consequences.

Guys I’m really scared of falling into a volcano. I don’t care what the libs say, we shouldn’t tolerate active volcanoes in our cities! It’s against God’s will!

Some of my profs did! I had one class where the prof would have optional “bonus content” not in the syllabus as a further incentive for people to come to class instead of just reading the lecture slides later.

Yeah. If university bio has taught me anything it’s that botany classifications are way more numerous, way more complex, and have way more exceptions than zoology classifications (not to undermine zoology of course, it’s also super complicated). There’s just far more diversity in how different plants accomplish the same things compared to how different animals accomplish them, which makes sense since plants are quite a bit older than animals and also have way more species.

All of you using adblockers are pathetic. You’ll willingly deprive companies of their revenue just because you can’t be bothered to see a few ads? It’s not like ads are harmful or anything!

…hang on I think porn just started playing on my computer I have to find where the popup is and close it… Right after I close this other popup that says I’ve won 69 trillion dollars, and this one for dick pills, and this one for free vbucks, and that one saying I have 420 viruses on my PC, and this one looks like it’s trying to download ransomware, and… Damn my battery just died from all the extra processing power those popups needed. Uh but adblock is still evil though, don’t forget that.

Denying profit to corporations is theft

Absolutely right. In fact, it should be illegal to see a product for sale and not immediately buy it. How dare you see a helpless corporation in need of money, freezing in the streets, and not immediately empty your wallet in exchange for trinkets that they so lovingly engineered to break in a set amount of time? You monster!

Seeing how Uranus is a Greek in origin named after one of their mythological figures, the proper Greek pronounciation would be more like “Ooranos”

Also, crying is not the only way to be sad. Some people regardless of gender just don’t cry easily when sad, doesn’t mean they’re not sad. Some people regardless of gender may not want to cry in front of other people for a movie. Or maybe they’ve already seen the movie alone and sobbed all day the first time but know what to expect the second time. It’s frankly none of your business to judge how other people react to sad things and you certainly do not have enough evidence just looking at them to declare they “have no feelings,” unless their ears are pointy and were the first to develop Warp Drive.

Not to mention police corruption. Every other true crime episode is about how their first victim walked into a police station with two knives still lodged inside them and the police assuming they’re a junkie or something. They literally take people feeding the homeless or picking still sealed food out of grocery store dumpsters more seriously than murders it seems.

Even completely ignoring all the history of the region and how the current State of Israel came to be and only focusing on the present in a vacuum, there is still is a glaring contradiction that I have never heard any sort of coherent answer from people who support Israel’s actions: If you truly believe that simply having a negative opinion of Israel’s actions against Palestinians is antisemitic (or simply being a Palestinian that’s still alive is antisemitic according to too many people), then surely it also holds that both Israel’s outright killing of Palestinians and their ongoing apartheid policies preventing Palestinians from existing in the same areas as Israelis is anti-Arab right? Is being anti-Arabic somehow preferable to being antisemitic? Are Arabs not human beings and do they not deserve the same rights and protection as Jews or literally any other human? What makes it okay for Israel to be anti-Arab then?

One of the half baked arguments I have heard is that Israel is “justified” in being anti-Arabic because “it’s in self defense against Palestinians that want to kill them,” but if you make that assertion, then what makes the other side different? Israel is certainly not just attacking the Hamas and there have been more Palestinian civilian victims than Israeli civilian victims so wouldn’t you saying that also automatically imply the inverse and equally justify the Hamas’ actions against Israel? You can’t attack someone while claiming self defense and then cry foul when they defend themselves against you.
