I’ve never worked on this stuff but I’ve looked it up before. Essentially, theatres get a DCP but it’s unplayable without a Key Delivery Message (KDM).
My understanding is that theatres order these and pay a fee for each one. The KDM is only valid to unlock a specific DCP, on a specific projector, on a specific date and time. It won’t work if any of these checks are off meaning you can’t check that it works until the theatre is filled with patrons who paid to see your movie, as the KDM will only decrypt the movie seconds before playtime. If there’s some glitch, a theatre manager needs to call a hotline for a new KDM.
I think you’re talking about SSSniperWolf and JacksFilms. It’s particularly interesting because it’s not just two people arguing. SSSniperWolf very clearly violated YouTube TOS as well as possibly California law. YouTube’s response essentially protected her because she’s YouTube royalty, pulling in 1 million+ views on all her videos, which are all her “reacting” to tiktok videos.
It’s beyond “drama”. It’s a giant tech/media company playing favourites with creators who break not only TOS, but copyright law, and US law. It shows they’ll look the other way over any infraction so long as you make them enough money.
You can tell because it suggests Linux isn’t for gamers but Valve has its own game console that runs on Linux. It’d be pretty stupid if a game console couldn’t run games.
The business in this case being what? What good or service is being provided? Landlords didn’t create the land, nor did they build the residence, nor did they improve its value by building a community around it. They are benefiting off of the work of others simply because they “own” it. The most common arguments I hear in support of landlords are:
Landlords take care of maintenance. Maintenance costs don’t increase 20% a year. If rent was simply maintenance costs it would be a fraction of what it currently is
Landlords allow people who cannot afford a home a place to stay. Why do you think they can’t afford a home? It’s like saying without scalpers people wouldn’t be able to see concerts because the tickets are instantly purchased by bots.
I worked with a lady who did this all the time. She’d over hear words and just start using them at work and even with clients. She offered people “dime bags” assuming it meant “a small bag”. She heard someone call a charcuterie board a “coochie board” and thought it was cute so kept saying it. She called her husband “Big D” because his name starts with D and the default icon her phone gave him was a capital D and she thought it was a cute nickname.
In their defence, it is a difficult concept to grasp. My dad started his career shovelling gravel for a few dollars an hour. Now he’s a vice president making very good money. In his mind, anyone can replicate what he did by working hard instead of being lazy and asking for handouts.
I eventually got through to him one day when he was talking about hiring for a senior management position. He was interviewing all these people with fancy degrees and credentials. I asked why not promote one of his hard workers? He laughed and said the person needs to be more than a hard worker to manage multi-million dollar projects. But where would he be now if his old boss had thought the same thing? My dad has none of the credentials of the people he was interviewing. He’d still be shovelling gravel 60 hours a week for minimum wage if nobody gave him the opportunity to advance. How could he think hard work will be rewarded when he doesn’t even reward it himself? That’s when he admitted the world works differently now.
Terrible first day, but he had a senior position at New York TRACON (which controls nearly all air traffic in New York) for years before getting the federal position. He was definitely experienced.
So the article explains that official tournaments use a unique words list that contains a lot of generous words like “zzz” and “aa”. Mostly intended to allow high scoring words for people who studied their list.
The company that maintains the list has added a lot more of these “not a real word but it scores high so we added it” words.
For some highlight words from the article: MIREPOIXS, HORSEFEATHERSES, SUBSPECIESES, GRATINEEED
Players are complaining that high level tournaments are basically going to be competitions for who knows the most gibberish from the tournament word list and it is alienating the general population from joining tournaments and scrabble clubs.
If you’re actually trying to manage your weight, do not increase your physical activity. Reduce how much you eat.
Most sites say running burns around 60 Calories/km or 100 Calories/mile. The average person burns 2,000 Calories a day by existing. If you ran a 10k every day, then you’d be using 2,600 Calories a day.
The difference in effort between “existing” and “runs a 10k every day” is massive, but the difference in Calories burned is equivalent to a large fry from McDonalds. So would you rather run a 10k or just take the fries out of your order?
One time a girl in my computer class kept asking me for help. She’d ask me to stand behind her and point to where she should click. She asked if the view was nice, which was weird since it’s just a computer screen. Eventually, she decided I should move her hand while it was still on the mouse. That happened a lot and I always thought “wow this girl really doesn’t get computers.”
I was in my late 20s before I realized she wanted me to look down her top and touch her hand. She must have been thinking “wow this guy really doesn’t get women”

People don’t realize how much data is collected, how it’s analyzed to determine things about you, and how it’s given out to nearly anyone. Here are some concerning examples that hopefully speak for themselves.
Hopefully you can see why the information being collected and given out to anyone is concerning. As to how to avoid it, I’m not sure there is any way besides government regulation. Maybe someone else has some answers!
It’s possible to change your personality. Most people have several. You probably don’t act the same way towards your best friend as you do towards your boss or towards a random stranger. Sales people change their personalities to match the person they’re trying to sell to.
If you’re talking about changing lifestyles and habits, that’s absolutely possible too. It just takes a lot of determination and repetition.
Same. I have the widget on my phone where my home screen has a little owl with motivational messages about keeping up your good learning habit. By 10PM it turns dark red and there is no more motivational message. Just an evil stare by the owl. That’s usually when I get around to doing my lesson…
I’m vegetarian. Western food is so focused on meat that people often have no idea how to make a meal that doesn’t contain it. My mother once asked me how to make a vegetarian version of Chicken Parmesan. So keep the tomato sauce, cheese, and spices, but swap out the chicken with pasta. Congrats you’ve made vegetarian Chicken Parmesan. I like to call it Spaghetti.
A core memory of mine was learning a cool math trick in school and coming home to tell my dad about it. He very coldly told me he didn’t find the trick impressive because he already knows math. That was the last time I ever came home excited from school.
For anyone wondering, salmon’s pronounciation comes from the French word . The French word comes from the Latin word salmo. When smarty pants scholars decided on how words would be spelled in the middle ages, they thought salmon should have an L in it since the Latin word does (screw with all those dumb people who don’t know Latin!)
The meta-analysis revealed a stronger sex drive in men compared to women, with a medium-to-large effect size, g = 0.69, 95% CI [0.58, 0.81]. Men more often think and fantasize about sex, more often experience sexual affect like desire, and more often engage in masturbation than women.
Across many different studies and measures, men have been shown to have more frequent and more intense sexual desires than women, as reflected in spontaneous thoughts about sex, frequency and variety of sexual fantasies, desired frequency of intercourse, desired number of partners, masturbation, liking for various sexual practices, willingness to forego sex, initiating versus refusing sex, making sacrifices for sex, and other measures. No contrary findings (indicating stronger sexual motivation among women) were found. Hence we conclude that the male sex drive is stronger than the female sex drive.
