Why are redditors like this?

I made a post on r/civ (Civilization games subreddit) showing a really funky shaped randomly generated river I saw and most comments were fine but one guy was convinced that I went through the comparatively monumental effort of opening the map editor and changing the river for karma, as opposed to just starting the game and...

DO I LOOK LIKE I KNOW WHAT A HEISENBERG COMPENSATOR IS?

At least Bob Barker had the decency to get as close to 100 as possible without going over.

Never forget Voyager, where Torres could invent a brand new method of transporter lock and implement it on-the-fly all through a console on the bridge, but even the bio-neural gel packs weren’t smart enough to get a power requisition down to the bottom decks without someone putting it into a padd and physically walking it down there.

Waiting for the oil pressure to protect the timing chain.

Or, in the winter, waiting for the CVT to warm up.

Does that make the fire caves the good place?

And then when I asked advice from people in Hollywood—I knew a handful of people, not many in those days—and I said to them, “Look, I’ve been offered this, what should I do? I’ve got plays lined up in London, I’m finally beginning to get a reputation in the West End playing leading roles.” And they told me now, this is a six-year contract, don’t worry about it. You cannot revive an iconic show like Star Trek, it cannot happen, you will be lucky to make it halfway through the season before it’s canceled.

Let me see if I can explain it to you: Nerds don’t have a problem with women; they have a problem with change. I’ll give you an example: Nerds are upset at black stormtroopers in the new Star Wars movie. Do they have a problem with stormtroopers being black? No. They have a problem with you changing their definition of a stormtrooper. I’ll be a little clearer: If the first time you introduce oatmeal to a nerd it has maple syrup in it, it better have maple syrup every fucking time, or it’s not oatmeal.

– Larry Wilmore, on the closed-mindedness of sci-fi fans.

Some do. Most are too cheap to bother.

The US is cheap. We even famously have large gaps between the door/stall panels. I can only imagine it is to accommodate temperature/humidity changes so that they don’t jam.

Nicer places sometimes have actual deadbolt locks connected to a vacant/occupied indicator on the exterior. But it is rare. Usually it’s just a gapped stall with a sliding lock that will often not even line up correctly without wiggling the door.

In some instances I have had to use my gym key fob in place of the missing sliding mechanism to secure the door.

The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland.

Edit to add: Bert literally stops the movie at one point to fourth-wall how hopeless everything looks. Ernie reassures him by asking what kind of movie would have a sad ending. Bert immediately replies Titanic.
