Gentle reminder to everyone that support for ends in about 90 weeks. Many computers can't upgrade to Win 11 so here are your options:

  1. Continue on Win 10 but with higher security risks.
  2. Buy new and expensive hardware that supports Win11.
  3. Try a beginner friendly distro like . It only takes about two months to acclimate.

@nixCraft @linux @windowscentralbot

JackbyDev,

All my hardware is just slightly older than TPM and SecureBoot. It’s from like 2009.

JackbyDev,

Well, if you download software like qBittorrent be sure to not accidentally download and torrents to copyrighted content.

JackbyDev,

I’m not really plugging and unplugging things often enough to memorize it.

It's funny how google pretends the music on YouTube isn't straight up piracy and everyone just goes along with it

Most people have extremely weird ideas of what’s considered piracy and what isn’t. Downloading a video game rom is piracy, but if you pay money to some Chinese retailer for an SD card containing the roms, that’s somehow not piracy. Exploiting the free trial on a streaming site by using prepaid visa cards is somehow not...

JackbyDev,

So, thankfully I only lost taste for like a week or so when I got it in 2022, but the sinus thing? Yeah. That was the worst part. Everything else was minor in comparison. It felt like someone hooked an air compressor to my head.

JackbyDev,

Yeah, I think you need to go out of your way to try to use ftps. When people say ftp they generally mean SFTP.

JackbyDev,

For discussions probably. Not for repos.

JackbyDev,

I think my top comment in this chain was pretty clear. I’m saying that the belief that everything will work itself out leads to personal inaction. I believe it leads to complacency and that leads to more bad things happening.

JackbyDev,

People go to a concert to listen to music. You can do that sitting or standing. Don’t shit in people’s preferences.

JackbyDev,

Are you locking your knees? That can make people light headed and pass out. Idk. I’m sure you’ve thought of it but I’d hate for the solution to be that simple and you not know. I guess the question is does it happen if you’re walking for a long time or just standing still?

JackbyDev,

You should put them all on a keyring!

JackbyDev,

If you use a used one, hey, that’s just up cycling!

JackbyDev,

ATT covers something like 99.9% of my city and my street is one of the few that isn’t covered while being within the city’s incorporated area. I can literally walk to city hall. I know that a lot of fiber was laid with government grants and I’m very tempted to see if they were obligated to cover my street and didn’t and try to get them too. I’m pretty sure it won’t go anywhere but I’m tempted to. As shitty as they are they’re way cheaper (with fiber) than Comcast’s Xfinity is.

JackbyDev,

OP you fucking idiot, if you expect people to get over two miles back then you’ve artificially extended the lane closure an additional two miles.

JackbyDev,

Bean versus leaf, if only we could live together in harmony

JackbyDev,

Your daily reminder that VSCode is shit not because of telemetry (take your time foil hat off for one second and hear me out and I say that jokingly with love) but because the extension marketplace is not allowed to be accessed by third party tools (INCLUDING CODIUM) and even then many of the extensions are proprietary, closed source. You’re not even allowed to distribute compiled VSIX files. It’s disgusting. Reading about the troubles gitpod faced that led to the (now) Eclipse Marketplace (idk the name, but it’s for VS Code plugins, don’t be tricked, it’s just owned by Eclipse foundation) is disheartening.

JackbyDev,

The millennium falcon would win because it would make a better story and it has a history of assisting small ships destroying large space bases.

Why is Linux so frustrating for some people?

Don’t get me wrong. I love Linux and FOSS. I have been using and installing distros on my own since I was 12. Now that I’m working in tech-related positions, after the Reddit migration happened, etc. I recovered my interest in all the Linux environment. I use Ubuntu as my main operating system in my Desktop, but I always end...

JackbyDev,

Using it since I was 12

People have been using X since that age so anything different is going to be jarring. Just the smallest roadblocks can put people off of stuff. Why bother learning something new when the old thing works?

JackbyDev,

Yeah. A lot of the UI seems to be intentionally bad. It’s actually a pretty hard game. A good example is reloading. You do this by holding right click, moving the mouse down then up and letting go of right click. I think the visual parts of the experience speak for themselves from the screenshots but my point is that even a lot of other stuff in the game is just wack.

JackbyDev,

I was similar. If I was taking notes I couldn’t pay attention to what the teacher was saying. I was better off just watching and listening.

JackbyDev,

“If you ain’t first, you’re last”

JackbyDev,

It’s not always so simple. I’m in Fintech so have to take the UDAAP course every year or so and the law is more consumer friendly than you’d expect, at least for the US. The deceptive bit is probably the most relevant. If the person signing them up for it told them “you won’t be charged” but failed to mention that they would be charged later that is an example of a deceptive practice.
